The Dwarves, an excerpt from the Wiki:

The Dwarves are a Descendant Race, the children of Urguan. Native to Kal'Urguan in Aegis, the Dwarves usually create grand underground cities. Dwarves are best known for their honour, love of war and constant acquisition of food and ale. Although quick to anger, Dwarves show compassion and love to their friends and kin. They are notable for being among the shortest of all beings, usually only three to five feet tall.

Dwarves are usually adapted to the underground, though some Dwarves prefer living on top of great mountains. Most Dwarves can mine great ores from the ground, craft the finest of armor, and slay the most horrific monsters. The most important thing to a Dwarf is his honor. That being said, they stick to their word. The Dwarves have a mutual hatred and respect for the Orcs because of their strength and might.

While other races make grand cities and noble families, the they make giant holds and honorable clans.

Dwarves live much longer than Humans. They can live hundreds of years before they finally die out, though not as long as Elves. Most Dwarves, however, tend to die in battle or through mining accidents before they get old. The Dwarves mature in a different way than most other races.

Dwarves have a unique outlook upon the outside world, due in part to their strong adherence to the ways of their gods, more known commonly as the Brathmordakin. They believe themselves to be the chosen among the mortal races brought into the world by the Creator, acting as guardians of the world's natural state of balance.

Summary of the Dwarves:

The Dwarves are one of the original 5 races that inhabited the original lands of Aegis, where the server started and has sinced moved on. Aside from being one of the smallest races besides Halflings, the Dwarves differ by their strength, even though they have small bodies. They mostly known for their love for mining, their great beards that they all grow, and their strong guts when it comes to drinking.

A great majority of the Dwarves belong to separate clans, many with their own specialties toward their race. For Dwarves, clans stand as the pinnacle of their culture, aside from their great facial hair.

Religion wise, the most Dwarves follow the Brathmordakin, which is a pantheon of gods. Most Dwarven clans have their own patron god as well. Though many may still choose their own religious following. There are also those Dwarven citizens who end up following the Brathmordakin loyally to be named as Paragons, they are the ones who may feast with the gods when they die.

The Curse:

"Urguan, your greed and lust shall overcome you, you are not worthy of the height The Creator gave you, your descendants shall be short, squalid and ugly. You will always seek to find Gold and Gems in the deep underground of the earth, your hunger never satisfied."

So said Iblees, according to the works of the Wandering Wizard. The curse of Iblees means that Dwarves are driven to dig deeply into the earth to seek out precious treasures. Dwarves can also display their greed by hoarding other items, including food and ale. Dwarves will as well always remain short, making even half-breeds such as halflings remain with both the curse of greed and shortness.

"Urguan, may your descendants be hardy, strong hearted and strong of mind."

Although the curse could not be lifted, through Aengul blessing the Dwarves were gifted with certain traits. Honour and strength of mind and body are found in the Dwarves.

The curse of the Dwarves is something to be followed greatly when you choose to become one. It is honestly not that hard to follow, since many people get the hang of it rather quickly.

The Sub-Races of Dwarves:

There are three sub-races of Dwarves, each with their own special set of skills and habits.

The Mountain Dwarves:

Description:

Mountain Dwarves have a lighter tone of skin, but a bit more muscles on their shoulders. The majority of Mountain Dwarves have fiery red hair. If you are a Mountain Dwarf who is weak, but have fiery red hair, you will get shunned. Usually the red hair attracts others of their kind. Mountain Dwarves usually take part in lumberjacking, and combat.

The Mountain Dwarves are those of their name sake, they usually crowd near the tops of mountains.

The Mountain Dwarves also make up most of the Dwarven armies due to their extra muscles.

For those that wish to be strong and are looking to take part in protecting their lands, the Mountain Dwarves are definitely for you.

Cavern Dwarves are known to have dark skin and dark beards. There beards are usually seen with braids, keeping their long beards from interfering with work. A fashion trend for Cave Dwarves is weaving precious stones and gems into their beard and hair. Finally, their eyes, usually golden, or amber. Cave Dwarves usually take part in mining, smithing, and other work to do with ores. Their eyes should be sensitive to sunlight, them being underground for long periods of time.

Cave dwarves are known to be the ones most affected by Iblees' curse on the race. Due to this, they are the backbone of trade within the race. They are also known to dig long tunnels to live in, instead of living on the surface. They excel at mining and smithing, which is the base of Dwarven society. If you are looking to get rich quick within the Dwarves and dont mind mining for hours on end, the Cave Dwarves are what you are looking for.

Description:

Forest Dwarves have brown, earth like skin. They keep their beards short, and not long like the other Dwarves. Instead of growing their beards out, usually their hair will be long. Forest Dwarves are also more compact, or closely united, to each other, unlike the other sub-races. Forest Dwarves are usually skilled in nature activities, such as lumberjacking, farming, fishing, and sometimes Druidism, if they chose that path.

The Forest Dwarves are the less seen of the sub-races. Instead of mining for hours or battling, they are the pacifists of the race, though some do fight. They are more inclined to breeding and raising livestock, along with maintaining farms. Forest Dwarves are also rarely seen inside of the capital, and are usually out exploring the world around them to better understand nature. Most even become Druids to follow this way of thinking, though some do take on the stereotypical Dwarven practices such as mining and smithing, it is just not seen as much.

If you are looking for a calm and surreal type of RP, and want to be closer to nature, the Forest Dwarf is for you.

Language:

CEjiGU8.png

Description of Speech:

Though dwarves of the present day have a tendency towards speaking in the common tongue, many elders of the dwarves still understand their ancient language. Even fewer understand how to write it in its original form however. This consists of a combination of runic symbols which though rarely written on paper, can often be found inscribed into various works of architecture throughout dwarven cities, as well on works of dwarven smithing. The language is made up of rough sounds, while some letters found in the common language are completely excluded. Though dwarves are intelligent beings, their mouths bind them from certain sounds, such as pronounced H's for example.

Description of Dwarven Language:

Since the Dwarven language is extensive, here is the forum post regarding it:

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/89930-dwarven-language/

It is not necessary to know this, since only a few actually study it since most Dwarves follow the common tongue. If you wish to know about the language in RP, feel free to ask around.

Clans:

nIExZv3.jpg

Description of Clans:

Dwarven society is divided into various clans which can be drawn further into two separate groups, elder and commoner clans. Elder clans are direct descendants of Urguan's sons while the commoner clans are those who have either branched from one of the elder clans or have emerged from a mixed blood between two clans. Within society, clans act as brotherhoods that help dwarves ascend through the dwarven political scene and often provide food and housing for its members. Though not quite as divided as the human houses, dwarven clans tend to bear rivalries and grudges against one another, which can often lead towards bitter feuds and power struggles.

Clans are pretty much the focal point in Dwarven Roleplay. It is ok to be a clanless Dwarf, since you can either stay that way or you can look to being adopting into one of the many clans there are. Dwarven clans usually have their history, their most well known achievements, along with even their types of beards and their role in Dwarven society. Clans are always looking for new blood, so if you do decide to become a Dwarf, look in the clan section of the Dwarven Roleplay forums and read up on the many clans that populate the race. It is an easy way to learn how to RP a Dwarf, since many are welcome to helping new players acclimate into their society.

Dwarven Society and Activities:

RQNYcxe.jpg

Dwarven society is based on what you would expect, going to the tavern and drinking up all the ale and sharing stories. Gatherings are frequent, and it usually ends with a few Dwarves completely smashed, naked, or still drinking to see who lasts longer.

Dwarves are seen as militaristic, but are also very spiritual along with being very family oriented. If you decide to mess with another Dwarf's beliefs and/or family, then expect a to be attacked.

Activies usually vary from clan to clan, but most involve sparring and beard competitions to see who has the best facial hair around. There are also mining and blacksmithing competitions from time to time, but are hardly seen.

Dwarven Government

sUmPYF0.png

Description of Dwarven Government:

Dwarven government has evolved vastly as times have changed. Throughout Aegis, the dwarven nation was led by the same form of government established during Urguan's reign, a King and a Council. However, this soon proved to be an ineffective form of leadership, as petty bickering would often lead to disagreements and in the most extreme cases, military coups and civil war. When the First Grand Kingdom of Urguan was therefore established, it provided multiple layers of government, with a Grand King and two councils, the Grand Council representing the interests of the nobility and the Lower Council, there on behalf of the guilds. However this system too proved troublesome for the dwarves as a lack of clear succession often divided the Kingdom during times in which a new King was to be appointed. In response to this problem, the Third Kingdom of Urguan established a constitution in which the King would be elected by the people. However, with the growing demands of various different clans, this was perceived by many as having put too much power into the hands of the King. Thus the Third Kingdom was ousted in a revolt from the clans and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan refounded. The constitution was rewritten into what became known as the Articles of Urguan and a new system of government put in place. This brought back the tiered system that was originally present beneath the Grand Kingdom of Urguan but set a specific means by which elections were to take place. What was most unique about this system however was the ability for the newly established Lord's Council to remove a Grand King if they so desired. Furthermore, the Lord's Council and the Grand King also held the power to amend the Articles if they were able to gain a majority of votes in support of their proposal. This brought to and end, the days of revolution and coups and meant that for the first time in dwarven history, the government was provided with a platform for stability. Eventually however, the Lord's Council was deemed unsuitable, as it often took personal desires in favour of the demands of the majority of Urguan's clans. Therefore, in an amendment to the Articles of Urguan, the Lord's Council was abolished in favour of the Thane's Council, which included representatives from each of the major clans. To this day however, the Grand Kingdom of Urguan continues to follow a from an amended version of the system established by the original Articles of Urguan.

In a shorter version, the government is run by the King and Thanes from each of the major clans.

The Thanes vote for topics if they so choose. The King can push for new forms, but the Thanes can go against it if they see it will not benefit themselves.

The King is elected is also elected by the people and can be removed by a majority of the vote by the Thanes.

That is pretty much all you need to know about the Dwarves. If you want anything else to be added, feel free to leave your comments. If this helped you choose to become a Dwarf, great! Can't wait to see all of you new Dwarves out there!
