The Canonist Appeal to the Waldenian Schism

 

 

 

To the Church of Aesterwald and those who denounce the authority of the High Pontiff Daniel I. We request that you stand down and end the so-called-schism. It has been made more and more apparent that the entire schism was called by three reasons, the violence and hatred of Bishop Rags, the pilgrimage of Daniel I and the retracted condemnation of Aesterwald.

First we dedicate this appeal to the Schism committed to segregating humanity further, shaming our Horen ancestors and forefathers before us, who sought to bring humanity stronger and closer. Saint Godfrey would be ashamed at the display that these Waldenians have caused, he, only working for the betterment of all humanity, to be united under one Empire and one Faith. Instead of filing your complaints to the Church, who was about to begin construction on a new center of religion, the planned Holy Palatinate. The King of Aesterwald decides arbitrarily to separate from the Church to empower himself, using the ineptness of one bishop, and the absence of the High Pontiff as citations. Though these issues serious, the High Pontiff Daniel has been on a pilgrimage for quite some time. Did the men of the Kingdom of Oren schism when High Pontiff Regulus was absent for 8 whole years? No, because they wished to follow the rightful Faith and serve to not benefit themselves, but to benefit the spread of the word of the Almighty Creator. Have not the Waldenians schism, have they, who dared to defy the High Pontiff lodged their complaints with the adept Curia, which tried their best to manage the current Church in the absence of the High Pontiff. Then the bishop could be replaced and the situation could be resolved, as all would be well.

Another blame levied on the Church of the Canon was largely based on the Holy Palatine condemnation of the actions of Aesterwald. An Akovian diplomat falsely told of a slaughter of the Akovian diplomatic corps in the Kingdom of Aesterwald. Upon hearing this, the just Vice-Chancellor, managing the Holy Palatinate, not the Church, mind you, issued this condemnation. Humbert, the aforementioned Chancellor, retracted the condemnation upon hearing of the truth from the evidence given to him by the Hounds of Petrus. An apology was issued and Waldenian officials should have received an official  retraction of the statement as well as a statement detailing the reasoning behind it. They also call bias towards the so-called “Raevir peoples” because of the heritage of the High Pontiff. Yet a majority of the clergymen were calling out for demands towards the Vladovs (affiliated with the “raevir peoples” according to Aesterwald) for robbing some clergymen who were with Aesterwald soldiers. The Curia diplomatic corps sorted this out by talking with Franz Vladov who promised to not bandit clergymen again. The Church of the Canon did not do this to show they have no bias, but to make sure that clergymen can be safe on the road. If Waldenian supposedly kill diplomats, then how would we make sure our Nuncio will be safe? Fortunately, this was a false report on behalf of Akovia. The Church of the Canon only wants what is best for servants of the Creator, no matter their ethnicity and no matter their culture. Can Aesterwald say the same?

Of course all this is implying that the King of Aesterwald, Arn Rovin, actually contemplated the possibility of benefiting the faithful of humanity. Though if he does, then I call to him to lay down the schism, and place the sword back within the sheathe.

Godfrey reading this seems upset and writes back.

 

"I hoped the Church would see its wrong doings and lay into the hands of the people and make good offerings and speak wise words. Instead of these empty words that mean nothing but further the divide more.

 

It is without a doubt that everyone is aware of the tragedy that occurred at the hands of the Undead in Angren; The lives and property lost and the erection of a dark stronghold desecrating the very lands so many of our own were slain on. The church under its current leader have done nothing to memorialize or honor those lost, not the old King Maric, not the regent Edmund Horen, not the many brave men and women who gave their lives protecting the Keep. The church did not put forth one shred of effort to ease the suffering caused to those in that area, has not provided aid to any displaced persons and has even failed in their duty to prevent darkness from spreading across the land. There has been no crusade called in honor of the lost city to reclaim it from its new dark lords and all the while the top clergy under the leadership of Daniel I have sat idly by, in their own homes surrounded by the wealth they pilfer from all those who believe in the Creator.

 

You accuse the Koing of segregating humanity, only that this High Pontiff was a major factor in the downfall of the third empire and the destruction of the strong church that was the Church Of The True Faith. Daniel I and his predecessor sowed the seeds of corruption using crow witchcraft in the former Emperor Chivay and his people by causing dissent and speaking lies into their ears, manipulating them to fulfill their own personal agenda; as well as stripping the Emperor of his support within the church, that being the High Pontiff Paul the 3rd and the Order of Saint Lucien; All of which subsequently leading to the Crows successful usurpation of the rightful Imperial crown, which was supported by the current High Pontiff Daniel. Furthermore the killing of honest priests such as Bishop Henry in the streets of Petrus and not even a word of condemnation of it was heard.

 

Moreover It is universally known among men of all castes, creeds and class that the clergy has grown apathetic to the spiritual needs of its people. For not only does this High Pontiff refuse to be an active member within the very church he represents, he also utterly refuses to increase the ranks of his Church preferring to remain complacent in that respect as the numbers of his loyal clergy continue to barely surpass single digits. Men have been denied communion with God due to said negligence, an act so foul given the church’s sole duty is to foster intellectual and spiritual growth of God’s children. What type of Church is this when we see not one man of cloth attending to the Church's or preaching in our streets?"

 

The Church of the Canon has been, since day one, created merely to benefit the High Pontiff’s culture and family, it is evident. Be it from idolising the creature that they have donned as their sigil, or the appointments of Strelts as priests of all colors."

 

Godfrey gives a heavy sigh as he writes the final words.

 

"I Archon Godfrey the third state that Petrus and all the lands that rightfully belong to me join the Schism."

The Vice-Chancellor-Regent reads the response sent to him from the Archon. He quickly drafts a reply.

 

"To the Archon, and his city,

 

Your argument is flawed. You say that we have done nothing to relieve the suffering of the people displaced by Angren, yet we have donated a generous 1/3 of our land to the Montfort so that they may construct housing and relief shelters for those displaced. We have been working closely with the Baron Montfort so that these people may find solace in new lands, safe from the undead. You speak of clergymen in homes, basking in wealth. Yet none of the three clergymen in the Curia have houses, but only beds in the Montfort castle. 

 

You say that the His Holiness, the High Pontiff Daniel I was responsible for the collapse of the Third Empire? But there was no reigning High Pontiff? The High Patriarch was Thomas I. The High Patriarch lost his home and Emperor, and without such he called for the restoration of the High Pontiff, this ushered in the High Pontiff Daniel I. I suggest you read more about your Orenian history before you make such bold claims. Now you declare that he used witch magic to whisper in Emperor Robert's ear. Again, you stated no evidence about this, and again, Daniel I was not High Pontiff at this time, and had no say. Considering the fact the Emperor was deposed by the marshal Solas. Alas we turn to the the death of Bishop Henry, Creator rest his soul, which was largely unblamed as there were no witnesses at the time. We received information blaming numerous sources, and couldn't find the culprit.

 

Now you claim us apathetic? When you and the King of Aesterwald brush aside the lives of the faithful to grant yourself power? When you and the King of Aesterwald usurp the church lands in Aesterwald to bestow title and mina upon yourselves? We granted land to the Montfort so that lost refugees may have a new home, free of charge. We are constructing an abbey so that hose who want may seek solace in the arms of the Creator and serve him by writing and praying. We feed pilgrims for free where we are allowed, and you support a ban against an entire ethnicity of the faithful? 

 

I must deny all these fundamentally flawed arguments against the Church. To prove the lack of idolism in the Church we are publishing the Accounts of Providence and the Evangelium Ventus of the Grand Canons of the Church. 

 

He sends the letter to the Archon with a nod.

Humbert de Bar chuckles upon receiving the letter, hastily he drafts a reply, the abbot drips his pen in some new ink.

 

"To the Lost Archon,

 

You accuse the humble house of Montfort of being crow sympathizers? Yet they were simply an Auvergnian commoner house that rose to power following the power vacuum in the Kingdom of Renatus. All they sought was to serve the Creator and farm peacefully in the foothills near Petrus. Now you push the blame on me, attempting justify that by issuing the outrageous unsubstantiated claim that Daniel the First is a sodomite? Again you use these bold and ridiculous claims to overlook holes and lack of evidence in your stories. When did His Holiness plot with the Ecclesiarch, and why would that make a difference? All unanswered by you.

 

Now what lies do I propagate, and how would they be as nearly outrageous as yours? What wealth do we possess besides the little land that we have? You accuse us of not using our donations to aid the Church, and hoard them for ourselves. Yet we use them to build an abbey to serve as a religious center so that many come to study the Canons. We use the couple of minas that we have to benefit humanity, which so far is not true on your part. You seek the disunification and have provided nothing proving otherwise. Nonetheless, Creator wills it."

High Pontiff Adeodatus, Bishop Henry Horen the Second, and Adeodatus' now living son all raise a glass to Godfrey III. "MAY THE CREATOR WATCH OVER HIM! MAY HOREN LIVE ON FOR ONE THOUSAND YEARS! MAY THE MAN WHO UNITED THE HUMANS LIVE ON IN GODFREY THE THIRD!" All three, two of them dead and ghosts and the one living man join the Schism.

Upon hearing of the heretical actions of the northerners and their allies in Petrus, the King in Akovia pens a letter to the High Pontiff, reaffirming his loyalty to the true Church of the Cannon established in righteous honor of the Creator above. 

 

"These non-believers shall regret their lack of faith. Let all know that all true Akovian's are champions of the faith, and this heresy shall never abide so long as any of us draw breath.

 

This will prove to be the greatest blunder those across the river have every made, and all too late they shall see they have erred greatly."
