Jace Evans has always prided himself on being an intellectual soldier. Rather than his main source of purpose being the glory of battle, Jace has focused on lecturing his fellow comrades on discipline and history.

As such, Jace had spent much of his time at the Petrus library whenever not in battle or training the 2nd Regiment. Once he exhausted much of the information at the public library, he turned his attention to the library in the keep. In an attempt to stay knowledgeable on history, Jace would scour the bookshelves regularly for new insight on historical battles or personal accounts from past rulers.

This often proved fruitful, but hardly life-changing. While not the most glamorous work, he did find past examples of successful military orders and would take note. This went on for years - since before the death of Andrik Vydra. As King Olivier de Savoie took the throne, Jace noted the keep became increasingly crowded with official business. In an effort to not disturb the official proceedings, Jace took to visiting the keep library less often. Months had passed since his last visit.

This time, however, something was different.

It was the 9th of the Grand Harvest, 1501.

Jace walked into the keep and listened. He could not hear the sound of voices in the throne room down the corridor, so he continued on and began scouring the bookshelves as he always had.

Jace went about his normal routine, thumbing through the collection of books for a new read. Many of the books were copies from the public library, and there were several books on blood-lines, which interested Jace little. He needed something new: something to better the soldiers he trained so that they may serve humanity more effectively.

With so many books around, Jace could only skim as he shuffled through the plethora of information on timelines, wars, military strategy, and so forth. The entire library was clearly well taken care of.

But something was off.

High up on a shelf near some books Jace had read years ago, there was a thin leather-bound book just laying on top of the others, not lined up vertically as all the other books were. Striking his curiosity, Jace slid a chest near the spot and stood on top of it.

Jace squinted as he struggled to read the cover on the journal.

Jace perked up upon realizing this was the old journal of the late king Andrik Vydra. Smiling as he remembered the rise of Vydra’s power and the reformation of Oren, Jace carefully opened the book and began to read.

It all made sense now.

Everything Vydra had been trying to accomplish.

Everything Vydra wanted for Oren - for humanity.

Jace Evans knew what he had to do.

In the distant county of Owynswood, Lorina Carrion suddenly looks up from her diary. A shiver runs down her spine.

For just one moment, she felt like she was not the only pale-skinned, black-haired diary-writer in Oren.

Adolf III, Baron Von Der Ruhr smirks, commenting "At least there is SOME literacy around here. Perhaps my search for more scholars for the court is not in vain..."
