[Concept Idea] The Jinn - Non Playable Unless Possessed.

I'm here to present a roleplaying idea that is designed to create roleplay. Which is the Jinn. Keep in mind that this is simply a concept and not written lore in itself. I wanted to post this to gauge feedback to see if it's truly worth looking into. I advise LMs to not review this, as this is not fleshed out.

The Jinn are evil spirits manifested by negative emotions, when fully matured, it will overtake a person already afflicted by a negative emotion and amplifies it, and even adds another emotion to it. The Jinn will also begin to influence how a victim feels to the point where the victim may begin to feel unsettled, depressed, or even cause them to act on the emotions the Jinn is amplifying.

For example, the Jin of Hatred may cause a victim to act out of hatred for others, sometimes beyond reasoning.

The Jin of Pride will make a victim act and speak out of arrogance.

The Jin of Fear may cause extreme paranoia and anxiety.

In severe cases, it may cause insanity.

--

But how can one be afflicted by the Jinn?

The Jinn are created and strengthened by negative thoughts and feelings in the environment. The victim has to be so afflicted by negative emotion that it leaves them vulnerable to being possessed. In some cases, anyone can find themselves afflicted if the Jinn itself is strong enough.

--

How can one be rid of the Jinn?

The Jinn is one of the only dark creatures that cannot easily be removed through clerical power. The most effective way(perhaps the only way) for a Jinn to be completely removed is through a willing host. This will be an internal battle between the host and the Jinn, in which the host must be able to consistently be positive and act in the opposite faction the Jinn is afflicting them with. For example, one must be humble in order to fight and completely eradicate the Jinn of Pride.

It sounds like the Sha from World of Warcraft, which is a really interesting concept for a thing and why I liked MoP so much. I like that they wouldn't be playable things themselves, so to speak, and would just influence the behaviour of an already existing character in a varied way. Like all things High Fantasy like this though, relative scarcity of these things would be great. Perhaps a few could manifest after wars and whatnot, fear of the losers, pride of the victors, etc.

I actuallly like those scenarios. It gave me more thoughts that might add to what you suggested.

I was thinking the Jinn can manifest in places which have the potential to bring negative emotions, such as funerals, feeling betrayed by someone, an orcish klomp, battle or war, areas which are prone to bring about greed, sadness, pride etc

If it could be elaborated as to the difficulty to remove these entities from their host via clerical ritual, it would be appreciated.

As for the Jinn, are they merged with the soul of an individual? If so, it may prevent healing methods of removal, including for monks whose healing is based upon restoring soul structure.

Moved to Roleplay ideas since it's still an idea and not definitive lore yet.

It's just to keep the lore section clean, to more easily know what lores need voting and reading and all that.

Mashallah, Shari'a Law is being implemented and Islamic culture is flourishing. Please name it something other than Jinn, considering people are already aware of Iblis.

I can't think of another name right now.

Is this not just depression? Or some other mental illness?

Is there a reason for their presence other then to give a more direct cause of depression or something of the sorts?

 negative emotions,

such as an orcish klomp

excuse me?!?!!1!?!!?!!one!!11!

Nah, but I like this idea.  Sounds pretty cool, should promote more roleplay.

I can't think of another name right now.

"Sprites of Apathy"

"The Numb"

A few names, I guess. I don't think any weird names like, "The Quablicorbic" or some weird ass imaginary word should work for this. You can also try something in Orcish blah too, since I am sure Shamans would want a stab at this since we are talking about spirits.

Hi, I can assist in naming if these are Spirits we're talking about (and considering there are countless lesser immortals for every and any emotion, that would make sense).

Liked and MOP should never be in the same sentence. Literally the worst expansion to date, and you can just look at the amount of subscribers lost for that.

I don't know too much about the shades, hopefully a shade would clarify this.

The Jinn would be similar to a matured Shade, equally or less impossible to remove through clerical means. I'm not sure if the Shade merges with the soul of its host. That's something I will look into.

There is a reason I don't want these spirits to have some sort of easy cure. No offense to the clerics, but I don't want them to be the magic pill that suddenly eradicates the Jinn. They can assist, but they cannot get rid of it.

Jinn possession can cause depression, or maybe some other mental illness, that will be up to the player who is possessed by the creature.

The Jinn's purpose is to promote character development. To change a character in ways that outside sources cannot. The Jinn will drive characters into doing things they normally wouldn't do. They create roleplay.

I will confess and say that this idea was definitely based on the Sha from WoW. MoP was okay, despite the dumbing down, but it has a great story behind it. There is a reason I want to see the Sha on the server, despite it being inspired off another game. The concept of it had potential to create RP, and place characters in a different direction they normally wouldn't.

There's a question I neglected to ask in the original thread, so I will ask.

Is this someone you'd like to see in game? Why or why not?

Lore ideas in roleplay ideas section are being cleaned up.

If you don't contact me within 4 days this unfinished lore idea will be moved elsewhere.
