The Big Skills Update

I was just thinking that we should add another skill, called Tinkering.

The Tinkering skill would allow working with Redstone and its components.

Just an idea,

It might've been mentioned before, but it's worth repeating the imbalance of Blacksmithing. While other skills mostly grant abilities that everyone had in the first place (such as wielding diamond X), blacksmithing adds a whole new feature, and an EXTREMELY powerful one at that.

Repair almost fully destroyed armor at the cost of 1 piece of material. This degrades a full armor set to 1/6th of its former cost. Tools such as swords and pickaxes crash about 1/2 to 1/3 of their former costs as well.

And yes, with this prospect, we will see far more blacksmiths than excavators. I mean, if one option is so much more profitable than another, people will slightly bend their rp around and I don't think they can be blamed.

Blacksmithing needs a serious nerf.

You should have to apply to become a blacksmith! That would fix everything!

But seriously, Blacksmithing could indeed use a nerf.

Also the swords skill is so highly abusable. This is known, but did you know 100 clicks a second equals 1000 xp per second?

I hope there's some kind of security :(

Lvl 50 hardly takes alot of time to get.

I've been grinding for long, boring hours, in which I could have done a lot of RP. I'm Level 31, and I'm sick of killing mobs over and over and over. If I wanted to do that, I would go on singleplayer.

It's called 'I can't click the mouse that fast'. Plus, you have to be killing a mob with it. Although you can practice on the corse briefly for extra points.

Are the racial bonuses going to be changed? Some reduced skills, but if everyone starts on 0...

That's a pretty good point. Not going to hate on skills, because they are very impressive, and I really appreciate everyone's hard work, but I think a lot of people instantly become too focused on skills. They're almost like attractive women to an adolescent. That's all that's on the mind.

It's all that's on the mind because before the RP can resume people want to restore their character to what they were before the update. They want to be able to use the expensive equipment they invested in.

As for the damage bonus for swords, it's +0.5 at Level 100, after 50 levels of nothing. The gap between 50 and 100 is huge. In fact, all the skills except farming stop around 50 and maybe have a small bonus at 100. Maybe cap each skill at 50 or 60? The dead space between 50 and 100 is massive, with minimal (and in some cases zero) reward.

Also, if players focusing on leveling skills all the time is a bad thing, then don't make skills level, make them assigned at the start. That way, characters have their strengths and limitations, and can get on with the RPing they used to do.

While giving characters limitations is important, those limitations can and have been RPed. The application shows what your character can and cannot do, my character can't farm, for instance, so I never make him farm. What was great about this server was the freedom to play your character how you wanted to, but now if you want to do something you have to spend hours 'practicing' to acquire skill points. The focus of an update to a system should be to improve it, and improving an RP server means improving the RP experience. I'm not sure this levelling skills system has. Levelling works in RPGs and games like Dungeons and Dragons because the only way to get the experience points is through the story. With this skill system, the character that goes and spends hours killing mobs like they're on a PvE server beats the RP player who's character is focused in the same area, that should not happen.

Yes, limiting characters is good for the RP. Requiring them to grind away for hours in wide open fields is not. Have skills assigned at the beginning and you get both the character limitations the skills system was meant to implement and the RP freedom that was the server's best point.

Bring back muy racial skill. I be a dwarf goddamn it!

Haha, almost just kidding. I think's it ok but I'm not gonna lie, the axe sucks. Still gonna use it (cuz it's that epic to rp) but I feel like I'm carrying a stick when i'm actually carrying a weapon with more iron and wood then a sword.

Just throwin that one out there.
