I like it, but not giving credit to a main key individual who is the source of the map of it's self is a little concerning. Try to do a little better next time. I hope this map is as good as it sounds though, good work, if you guys did do something. If I am able to get in contact with the guy somehow then I will. On the map itself I'll be making a small shrine at spawn with a credit to the actual creator of the base map. If anyone has an idea of how to get in contact with the guy then let me know. Aetosion 2062 Share Posted June 21, 2015 LotC has historically had issues in the past with world painting. It was decided that we find a blank template somewhere else to build upon so it wasn't ****. The original worldpainter, who licensed it free to use, will as planned be contacted prior to the map release notifying him and thanking him for the base map. Do note, however, that the map was heavily edited and terraformed from the original- continents were removed, terrain was completely altered, etc. I've edited in credit into this thread though, thanks for the catch. Why is this 4.5? If its gonna be a long-term map why not just 5.0? It really should be 5.0 tbh. It was originally developed as 4.5 assuming we'd be transitioning to 5.0 soon, but it evolved into a full map project and we just never changed the name. Unfortunately no success thus far, the only "colleague" he had on the minecraft.de forums (whom I added in Steam as he was online) had no idea about his whereabouts. On Planetminecraft his last login was two months ago. I'd say alone mentioning him would be a start at first. Then looking into leaving him a PM on his PMC account. AGP 3169 Share Posted June 21, 2015 This is actually rather shocking. You're ONLY going to contact the original map author AFTER someone has pointed out that you took his map? The first thing the map builders should have done was inform the guy that you were going to use his map. He gave the world the map to use for free and the ONLY thing he asked for in return was that he be notified of its use so he could see what was being done with it. It is not hard to get in contact with the guy, iMattyz. You can send him a Pm on the website where you found and took his ******* map. @Z3r05t4r - Sending him a Pm on PMC should be the first thing that you do. Even if he's not logged on for 2 months, all he asked for was notification. If he ever logs onto PMC again he'll have that pm waiting for him. I have no problem using a map that was not made by someone in our community, but not even fulfilling the request the map maker had, and not even mentioning the dude in our credits while simultaneously extolling several members of our community for their fantastic work is extremely abhorrent. Don't fly off the handle for nothing please, the original map maker will be credited and notified as I have said several times. As you can probably understand, we have actually been busy developing the map for you guys to be on. Now that it's settling down I can adequately get to that. I'm going to fly off the handle, and it's not 'for nothing.' Failing to meet the very slight request of the map creator *before* making the map, and making a thread to credit people without even crediting the original author is a big deal. It has a lot of people upset, myself included. Also, you may be crediting the guy now, but you're doing so reluctantly. The response to Arctic's enlightening information has been very defensive and unapologetic. If perhaps you had just responded with "Dang, we should've done that, our bad," then there would be nothing to get upset about. If you're actually not feigning this outrage for attention, and you're really mad about this before the map is even released, I don't even know what to say to you. Although, you continuing this argument is legitimately getting us nowhere and you're continuing it for the sake of doing so. A mistake was made and it has now been fixed. The builders have been congratulated for their immense amount of work building on this map for the enjoyment of the player base and as has the original map maker. Appreciate it.
