Tension.

 

For no more than two Elven weeks the mutual feeling between the Holy Oren Empire and the Horde of Dunamis was tension, as Dunamian raids against Orenian holdings decreased in light of peace talks between the powers: one a vast empire sprawling half the continent with dominion over half the races, the other a mercenary force owning but a single fortress half a world away from the human capital. In spite of the vast differences between them, it had become clear to all that Dunamis was the superior, in spite of their fewer numbers and questionable prestige.

 

Uniformed men pooled together in the Dunamis fortress’ business hall, some wearing helmets but most showing their faces. They had nothing to hide.
Soon the room was filled with the chatter; the loudest was among the few initiates, while the veterans, who took up the most space, spoke but a few words of greeting to one another, instead waiting patiently for their leader to begin his...presentation. Soon the suspense is ended by the arrival of the Marshall and his entourage, a cabal of hardened soldiers and individuals who helped found the company nearly forty common years prior. The Marshall takes his seat first, followed by his entourage, before the common men finally take their seats before them. After some silence, one of the entourage speaks out.

“They still haven’t given us an answer,” one drawled as the Horde met, a long oaken table stretched out before him. “I bet the Emperor is just stalling so he can cozy up to the Caliph and siege the fort.”
“They won’t come to us, that much is certain. But at the same time that n’wah’s subordinates continue to show us nothing but disrespect and hostility when we visit their lands.”
“Dumb beetches, we should just keel them all, and take over that sheet!”
“Faiz won’t let them come, the Caliph and me go way back,” the Marshall Richard Revlis interrupted sternly. “If anything he’ll either help us or keep being neutral. As for old Johnny boy he better pick his fat ass up and tell his boys to stop ******* with us before we tear up this little treaty.”
The men nodded in agreement.

Richard would lean forward in his chair looking to the Horde before putting a halt to the commotion.

“Today, we make a choice on what our future will contain.. on the holdings of our dignity.. it is time we hold back no more.. the tension between Oren and the Horde will never minimize. Surely to them we are only a ‘mindless bandit group’ with blood thirsty motives.. but today.. we will unite among those whom Oren has pushed away. Today..it is all for coin and vengeance..”
 

The Horde of men produce war cries heard over the Caliphate’s land chanting “Blood for coin, coin for vengeance!”

The cries chill the blood of the qualasheen, and send tremors of rumors throughout the Caliph’s lands.
