ski_king3 0 Share Posted November 18, 2015 Laethis calls from the center of Haelun'or, announcing to any elves going about their business, hoping to get their attention. "Mali of Haelun'or! I understand that since my departure, several new faces have come to our blessed silver halls. I fear you have heard inaccurate accounts of my rule. Likewise, I fear that those of you present during my rule likely are not fully informed of my intents for Haelun'or; similarly, my disposition has changed somewhat since I've been away, as tends to those who have looked death in the face and continued on. Even if your vote has already been cast, I implore you to seek me out to discuss my goals, as well as share your concerns, either with me personally so I can consider and address them, or those of Haelun'or so I further understand the problems I seek to resolve."The elf then moves along, setting himself down in a small table at the teahouse, a golem remaining close by his side as he does so. Likewise, a similar message is delivered to the elves of Fi'ceru, encouraging them to come meet him. ((Basically, if you guys want to talk, I'm happy to make that happen. Whether you want to do it via forum RP, server RP or skype RP, I'm down for any of em. My skype is ski_king3 if you want to arrange something. Even if you don't like my character IC'ly or have voted against me, I'm down to roleplay, as I've been trying to find easy ways to get out of my regular circles.))
Catostrophy 111 Share Posted November 18, 2015 "To address the giraffe in the room," begins Aetahir, "is not always the finest way to begin any sort of conversation. I shall speak it however, so that louder, angrier individuals need not, and my fragile ears remain unmolested by their anguished cries." He leans forward in his chair, and gracefully lowers his teacup on a convenient table. "Some have accused you of murdering your former Sohaerate opponent Mr Suliin'thilll. Given the time of his reportedly violent death, it seems very convenient for you. I admit, I was not a witness. I wish to hear your words on this.Understand that it is likely many may not believe you, regardless of your answer. But my own curiosity demands it." Malaise 1570 Share Posted November 18, 2015 An Eredes Theronn makes known his intent to speak."Your face is new to mine, and mine yours. I am a mali'aheral considerate of ancient ways. The ways of Silver. Tell me, Laethis, how you differ from your opponent Taeleh. Your status as Sohaer ended some time ago, and yet this inchoate election garners much attention. Thusly, I wish to know."
ski_king3 0 Author Share Posted November 18, 2015 "To address the giraffe in the room," begins Aetahir, "is not always the finest way to begin any sort of conversation. But my own curiosity demands it."He lowers his head in a brief nod, offering the elf an appreciative smile. "I did not expect one to approach me with this question with such a..." he pauses, considering a proper word, "sincere inquisition. For that, I appreciate your reasonable approach. As you say, I do not expect to change the minds of many with my explanation, for most are set staunchly in one state of mind or another. However, I hope that those who paint me a murderer at least consider these words." "To begin, I'll clear up one innocent misconception. Suliin'thill ran for Medi'ir, not Sohaer. He ran against my sister-in-law, Elwyn Izalith, one who I supported and was largely agreed with on issues. It makes little difference, functionally nearly the same, but it is still important to clarify this point.""As for the charges, I did indeed order the execution of Suliin'thill. I had received very reliable reports that Suliin'thill was part of a plot to gain power in Haelun'or, such that he and my present opponent, Taeleh, might stage a violent revolt in Haelun'or. The goal, so it was reported, was the removal of all mages from Haelun'or through violent ends. This was a conspiracy that could not be ignored, and thus I acted." "With all that in mind, most simply question why I did not put him to trial. If I could go backwards in time, this would be my course of action. However, at that time I was working towards high elven independence in secret, moving to a point where such could be negotiated with Oren, returning to a time akin to Crimson-Silver. Were there to be a coup, or even the perceived chance of one, these efforts would be all for naught, and Haelun'or would likely regress to a state of Martial Law. And so for the good of the state, I acted promptly, ending this threat on my terms. With hindsight, it is clear to see that I should have put him to trial, for his end would be no different. Yet if one could always act with the clarity of hindsight, the world would be a far simpler place."He pauses briefly, rubbing his chin with the back of a finger, along the lower end of his facial scar. After a few moments, he continues, seemingly unsatisfied by what he had said. "However, one fact of this whole ordeal I must contradict is the political convenience of the act. I do not believe what I did was politically convenient; on the contrary, I sacrificed political legitimacy for the well-being of Haelun'or." "Some would claim that I executed Suliin'thill simply because he was a political opponent, yet why would I do this? Jupiter Ith'ael, my fellow Medi'ir, was of a like mind with me on nearly every issue. Ironically enough, the only issue we disagreed on was my execution of the plotter. If he had been voted into office, he would have had no power, as Jupiter and I would overrule anything he sought to do contradictory to what we believed best for Haelun'or. Perhaps even more clear, however, was the fact that Suliin'thill had little chance of winning his election. For every citizen that criticized his execution, there were two that claimed it best for Haelun'or. He was an unpopular Councilor, as simple as that.""So simply, I must ask why in the world it would be politically convenient for me to execute a political opponent with no trial, when they stood no realistic chance of winning, and if they did any opposition would be marginalized? Politically, it was a foolish move. And thus, I hope that you believe me when I say I did not have political motivations for his executions, but instead ones of security for my fellow mali'aheral." He folds his hands together, placing them on the table with a quiet sigh. "I hope this serves as an adequate explanation, and not merely a long-winded one. Some will surely not believe me, and others shall surely say I mischaracterized his political chances or his capabilities if elected. To the best of my knowledge, I have not, and thus I leave my explanation at that." An Eredes Theronn makes known his intent to speak."Your face is new to mine, and mine yours. I am a mali'aheral considerate of ancient ways. The ways of Silver. Tell me, Laethis, how you differ from your opponent Taeleh. Your status as Sohaer ended some time ago, and yet this inchoate election garners much attention. Thusly, I wish to know."When he speaks with Eredes, he gives the elf a pleasant smile. "It is pleasing to meet you, mali. Your question would be a simple one, if I were aware of Taeleh's intents. Unfortunately, I know very little of Taeleh. I know that once upon a time, I had very credible evidence suggesting that he sought to bring about the deaths of every mage in this Citadel, an accusation I hold to be true. In this way, I differ from the Elibar'acal. Likewise, I was under the impression that he sought to do so through the manipulation of his family, spurring them to murder. This as well, I do not seek to do. And lastly, I know that he called upon the god-invoking orders of the Mongoose and Lion, the Ascended and Paladins to solve issues of Fi'Ceru. This again, I would never do, for they are no more trustworthy than those they claim to hunt.""Unfortunately, my words here look like little more than an attempt to slander. Fortunately, I have goals I seek to employ into our government if I am elected. I approach this role as neither conservative nor liberal, but instead a rational approach where problems are dealt with rather than ignored." "One issue I seek to resolve is officiating of trials. During my term as Sohaer, it was quite common that we would find partial Parir'tiran pronouncing questionable verdicts. At times, criminals were pronounced guilty merely on hearsay, and rarely was the full story requested or presented during trials. Likewise, yesterday during a purity trial, the story behind one's transgressive actions were not asked until an audience member called them out. With these questions, it was clear that the mali'aheral's offense was somewhat less severe. I would like to work with the Tilruir'tir to create some formal position and procedure for interviewing criminals during trials. Whether this culminates in a specific lower government position citizens can hold, or simply more explicit procedures for the Parir'tiran to pursue when performing a trial, I believe this would help us in receive impartial trial verdicts which are more informed by fact.""Another issue I seek to resolve is one of the capabilities of mali'aheral to defend themselves. We are not known for our martial prowess, for it is not something that our kin have required for most of their existence. For a long time, Haelun'or was an isolationist state left alone by the militant nations of the world. Those who occasionally sought to bring about harm to our kind were bested by our walls. Unfortunately, this has changed dramatically in the last several decades. Haelun'or is no longer exempt from considerations of militant actions, and thus we must consider this new reality. Thus, I seek to explore methods of preparing all mali'aheral for these unfortunate and undesirable occurrences. I do not seek to assert a specific course of action I would take, for I wouldn't deign to pursue this course without extensive citizen feedback. I am currently working on a treatise on the changing nature and effectiveness of walls, after which I would hold a public forum fielding responses, with hopes of coming to discuss how to resolve the changing martial needs of Haelun'or." "On a similar vein, I seek to restore our stores on supplies, in particular armaments and armour. The Sillumir seem to be arming themselves with the last few pieces of equipment I supplied when I was Sohaer, and I am informed that the Council stores are largely depleted. I would work closely with the Tilruir'nor, and other associates of mine, to replenish the supplies Haelun'or needs to support its citizenry." "And lastly, I would work to increase the number of mages residing within Haelun'or. Magic was once a practice held in chief regard among mali'aheral, yet it is clear the number of mages grows lower with each passing year. Most newcomers have not even had the opportunity to learn magic since coming to our silver halls, an unfortunate occurrence I seek to resolve. I seek to speak with the Tilruir'tayna, such that I do not undo any plans he already has in the works, but instead complement his with my own efforts. Together, Haelun'or can once be a nation priding itself on its arcane ability once more, spurning those who seek to prevent the proper practices of our citizenry." "I hope that this gives you an idea of the approach I will take as Tilruir'mali. I will do what I must to stay as close to tradition as possible, while also resolving problems which hamper our most blessed maehr'sae hiylun'ehya. However, my exact course of action is impossible to determine; as I have learned, leadership is a reactionary task, and as such planning only goes so far. If you have further questions, though, I will gladly answer them."
Lima 774 Share Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) While not directly posing a question Lori listens in while seemingly reading a thick tome at the tea house. A certain statement in the most recent conversation Laethis has definitely catches the dwarf's attention. He promptly goes to scribble in his notes to find a chance to converse with the fellow in the future. Edited November 18, 2015 by Lima
