  • The German pre-preemptive strike goes well at first, the bandits are unfamiliar with fighting organized armies, and quickly break. However, as German soldiers of the Third Company move to run them down, they are led into a mined field, where they are nearly obliterated, only 12 return, maimed and wounded. The South perimeter is exposed and heavily armed raiders close in, wrecking havoc. Companies One and Four are bogged down in fighting, while Company Five attempts to purge the breached city, but need support. Second Company valiantly attempts to assist by splitting half their force, and drive the raiders out. Half of Fifth Company is butchered, and a quarter of Second Company is either too wounded to fight again or dead. Company One is left at three quarter strength, and company Two's border forces saw only light fighting, remaining intact with only a few wounds.
  • Attempts to curfew civilians are in vain, as the raiders who breached the city mercilessly break down doors, taking slaves and massacring all they see. 750 civilians lay dead.

  • Only three men return to the Enclave, they are badly wounded, carrying the firearms back, they report that Enclave territory is surrounded by vicious barbarian raiders, with pierced flesh and grisly self mutilation. They are, however, not advancing to the Enclave territory

  • The Swiss identify the radio transmission to be coming from just 20 miles south of Bern
  • Broadcasts are sent into Bern, the same bloodcurdling scream, and a deep voice like nails on a chalkboard chanting in some foul language

The New Texas Republic

William set down the written report that the Rangers had prepared for him of the Regulators putting down the settlement for harboring bandits. He has a team prepared to expel anyone who is known for banditry. Anyone not willing to leave will be publicly hung in Houston's square. The Regulators were a faction that needed to be pleased not pissed off. President Watson had known this since hearing about them, and now they had expanded into his territory. He wasn't nearly as powerful as he wished to be able to challenge the Regulators.

The Engineer's petition is accepted and a nearby factor is marked as the designated munitions factor. The engineer however is closely watched with one of the Rangers teams, acting as his "Body Guard" personally assigned by Watson. Another smoke house for the fish is planned and construction would take place when resources were available. In other news, bunkers are setup with the browning .30 caliber machine guns. This was to make sure that the settlement was prepared for any assault on it. Marksmen outside of the Rangers are given the M1 Grands and take turns in 'watchtowers' which are abandoned buildings near the edge of town. President Watson would not be caught off guard incase of an attack by anyone or any thing.

The bounty of fish was a relief, and are sent to a smoke house so their meat can be eaten and preserved. Watson looks into having a good balance of fish and homegrown crops and looks to expand the farms. Farmers who meet these expected expansions will be rewarded with rare commodities like sugar, fruit, or even a pack of cigarettes that are kept safely in the government storehouses.

Caliphate of Ashkelon

Yusuf, Caliph of Islam, Sheikh of Ashkelon and Master of the Sword of the Prophet, Keeper of the Shield of the Prophet, Lord of the Lance of the Prophet.

‘With Willing Submission’

Yusuf had assembled his entire council in an old hall in the fortress, which he had styled as a large meeting room, large enough for the council. He watched in silence as they hissed at each other, cursed at each other; made a debate more heated than the sun. “A direct assault would mean many casualties! That is a foolish move!” One voice exclaimed. “But unless we deal with them quickly, we will fall apart! Their labour is the key to all our wishes!” Another countered. All around there were voices, and the split was clear.

“Ahmed!” Yusuf yelled at his brother, breaking his own silence. Ahmed, a man who towered over the rest of the council, with an explosive voice, bellowed at them to be in silence. The response was immediate. The room was silent, as the Caliph wanted. Yusuf gave his brother a grateful nod.

“Now, my brother, what would you have us do?” Yusuf asked.

“A direct attack, my Caliph. There is no other option. We have the firepower, what do these kaffirs have? We have a bren gun, vickers, and the light mortar - and they’re all packed in a chapel. It will be a massacre.”

“And you, Plumber?” The Caliph said to the foreign Englishman, who responded with excellent Arabic. “I agree. We have 8 smoke rounds on the mortar. We use but one, cover the Lance, give them covering fire, and then we have a victory. We force them to pay the Jizya, we shoot the ringleaders, and those who cannot pay, we enslave.”

“Why do we not just starve them out?” Usama Ibn Jubayr, the old intriguer, responded. “We do not even know what weapons they have.”

“The quicker we deal with this problem, the better. Without the Christians, our labour force is gone. We want as few deaths as possible on the Christian side, but we also want them not malnourished. We know how defiant Christians are.” They will hold off starving. We do not want that. We want them healthy.”

The Caliph finally gave his orders. They would carry out Ahmed and Plumber’s plan, using the cover of smoke to attack the Christians in the chapel, and force them to surrender. The Caliph’s forces would surround the chapel in the middle of the night. The makeshift rifles and one bren gun would create covering fire, being conservative with ammunition, whilst one smoke round would be fired and 100 lancemen with melee weapons would emerge from the smoke, throwing javelins and then charging. They are given strict orders to capture and not kill if possible; they were told that if they did this there was a higher chance of getting their own slaves. The lanceman who captures the most Christians would be offered the ‘most graceful concubine’ usually reserved for the Caliph when slaves were taken. It was estimated 30% of the Christian populace, around 450 people (almost entirely women and children), would be taken as slaves. The Lance would be led by Ahmed, and the gunnery and mortar team commanded by Plumber.

“They shall pay the Jizya with willing submission, as the Prophet (Peace be upon him) intended!” Yusuf exclaimed, ending the meeting.

Bashar and the Imam

“Only Jews live this far north on the coast regardless, brother. The British wanted to settle the Jews there.” Mohammed Al Ashkelon, the Caliph’s top Imam, reasoned. He pointed further inland, east toward the cities of Ramla and Jerusalem, as well as Nabalus and others. “We will head that way.” He said. “There will be Muslims to follow the Caliph’s word there, and if not, we can reach our most graceful city of Jerusalem.”

Princely States of Armenia

Ashot, Prince of Princes, Prince of the Anatolians and Protector of the Catholicos and the Heavenly Church of Christ

.Coat of arms of Armenia.svg

The young leader enjoyed himself in his small palace in Yerevan, with plenty of bards and younger nobles, Ashot was young and left much of his administration to Smbat, his uncle. Smbat made a promise to his brother, to take care of the family and of Ashot. Smbat was named Lord Protector by the council of Princes, thus he shall rule until Ashot has at least finished his studies, which will most likely end when he’d 17.

Military: About 907 men are soldiers, 14 of which constituted the vanguard, which were the honour guard of the Principality and the Prince. 54 other men are equipped with makeshift weapons, made from an assortment of pieces from other weaponry. The rest are armed with crude and ancient weapons such as swords and spears, as well as bow and arrow. In the Armenian Highland cavalry is nigh useless, thus there are little horsemen, perhaps 30 men mounted.

Administration: The Princely States are divided, 1,967 men lived under the rule of Ashot in Yerevan, 500, mainly Hemshin Armenians - those who converted to Islam- live in the southern highlands they are regarded as the protectors of Yerevan, and live in smaller secluded villages, the worship of Allah is allowed by the prince, but they may not preach. The remainder live in the northern highlands, they are mainly sheep herders and farmers, some even live nomadically.

Actions: Smbat knew that the Princedom was poor, it needs revenue, he ordered peasants from the Northern Princedom to start working cotton and tabacco, something the populous should be used to do since many of their parents and grandparents grew said plants under the communist regime. Smbat also ordered plenty of expeditions to collect any other armenians in diaspora and to get a general census on the land. [MOD PLEASE]

The Grand Council of the Rabbi stand on a balcony, their people gathered below them. After a few moments of silence, Chellah, the oldest and wisest Rabbi opens his mouth to speak, clutching an aged Torah in his hands “And the Lord saw that the evil of Man was great on the Earth, and He became grieved in His heart.” And the Lord said, "I will blot out man, whom I created, from upon the face of the earth, from man to cattle to creeping thing, to the fowl of the heavens, for I regret that I made them." And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth has become full of robbery because of them, and behold I am destroying them from the earth. And I, behold I am bringing the flood, water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which there is the spirit of life, from beneath the heavens; all that is upon the earth will perish.” This was the tale of the First Flooding of the Earth, and now we are beyond the Second. When Yaweh saw his people’s death, he took pity on us, for we are His chosen people, and so once again, the world was Flooded once more, but this time with fire. But as the fire cleansed the earth, so did Yaweh spare heathens- criminals, thieves, bandits, and simple survivors. Why? To test our faith. For these unbelievers, we have two options. We must peacefully convert them to the ways of Yaweh, to spare them from Hell. But those who cannot be converted must be destroyed with haste, lest their heathen ways take hold. This is Yaweh’s plan, eternal, and we are his people.”
He pauses for effect and continues. “Now is the time for action, as Yaweh wills it. We will send eight Ayder out, each in a simple rowboat and then, once on shore they will go on foot: north, south, east, and west; and northwest, southeast, northeast, and southwest. The parties shall go out to scout and see if they can find anything- factories to scavenge from, other survivors, or even bandits. They shall move carefully with Yahweh’s blessing, and not stir trouble, nor be tempted by greed. Furthermore, all firearms not directly in use by the Ayder are to be turned in to craftsmen, who will study their workings to see if they can be replicated or repaired. In addition, all Ayder not on direct patrol will scavenge sandbags, bricks, and anything else they can find to begin building a wall around the port of our great city of New Zion. The wall should be sturdy, and high enough that you need a small platform to see above it. From this wall we will have regular patrols, and at all time have men monitoring to see if any should land in our port. We will allow in any friendly survivors and give them shelter and food. However, they are required to leave all weapons with the guard force before being integrated to our society. We shall also fly our flags high in the air to attract all people to our great city. Any radio systems we can find shall advertize our city of New Zion as a great haven for survivors. We will send a ferry back and forth across the sea to bring any new citizens in.”
With that, the Rabbi leave the balcony and personally assign the soldiers to their missions.

Actions (in chronological order):

Flags of New Zion are being raised and across all radio channels people are advertizing New Zion as a haven for survivors. From the buildings, a Rabbi uses a telescope to watch the mainland and see if there is any immediate danger.

If there is none, a ferry is operated, using all remaining fuel in the city, scavenged from cars, planes and any reserves they can find. The boat is brought to the mainland with 12 squadrons of men on it (6 of which are on a different mission), and shut off to conserve fuel. The soldiers who are staying hole up in the ferry office, making it as defensible as possible, and raise a New Zion flag above it. They demand that any approaching lower their weapons and enter the office to be taken to New Zion, where the weapons are confiscated, they are searched, and then kept under close watch. Once a minimum of 15 people arrive, the ferry will leave back for New Zion carrying its new passengers. The guns are given to the gunsmiths and other weapons are given to the Ayder.

Squadrons regularly patrol through the city to keep peace, and there are always at least 3 stationed directly at the port to watch for anybody entering and exiting. People that enter are greeted cautiously but non-aggressively, their weapons confiscated, and they are brought to the recruitment office to see what job they will eventually take.

Eight four-man squadrons of soldiers will move in eight directions from the city: North, South, East, West; and northeast, southwest and southeast. The groups are armed as follows:
North Group
2 elite, highly skilled infantry, one with a fair quality spear and the other well with a sturdy wooden club.
2 elite, highly skilled archers, one with a bow and 24 arrows and the other with a sling and a bag of about 100 pebbles. All four are armed with knives of varying quality.

South Group
2 elite, highly skilled infantry, both with fair quality spears.
2 archers, both with slings and bags of 100-ish pebbles. All four are armed with knives of varying quality.

East Group
2 elite, highly skilled infantry, one with a low quality sword and the other with a well made club. Two archers, one with an Ithica Model 37 shotgun with 6 shots and one armed a bow and 24 arrows. All four are armed with knives of varying quality.
Northeast Group
2 elite, highly skilled infantry, both armed with sections of metal piping
2 elite, highly skilled archers, 1 with a bow and arrow and 24 arrows and the other with 10 throwing knives. All four are armed with knives of varying quality.

Southeast Group
2 elite, highly skilled infantry, both armed with metal crowbars
2 elite, highly skilled archers, both with bows and 24 arrows each. All four are armed with knives of varying quality.
The groups will move a two day mission, exploring for one day and coming back on the second, filling out maps and marking down all places of interest--bandits, factories, towns, houses, anything, but will stay as quiet and stealthy as possible. They will not engage in combat unless absolutely necessary and try to remain undetected by anybody while filling out their maps. They will remain together and not split up and will have at least one person keeping watch at all times. They will travel light and only eat dry, uncooked food kept inside their pockets. They will sleep in bedrolls with watch changing every two hours, and not light any fires, make any noise, or contact anybody.
(MOD PLS)

All usable and broken guns and all ammunition not in use by the away-squads will be turned over to gunsmiths, who will examine them and try to find ways to replicate the gun parts, fix the broken ones, and manufacture more guns and ammo. (MOD PLS)

All construction workers and builders will work with the Ayder that are not on patrol around the city in constructing a wall/barricade around the land side of the city, covering all entrances and exits. The wall will be sturdy and high enough that you cannot see over the top of it, but you can easily use small platforms to look over the top and defend. There will be minor repairs done on any of the walls on Portside that need fixing. (MOD PLS)
