The only reason I enjoy it in tabletop RPGs is you can show experience and skill with your character by having a lower chance of failure. I'd honestly prefer RP default for small groups and make PvP default for everything else (Nothing I expect to happen, I've grown to accept PvP default is and will continue to be the norm). The roll feature should only really be used if there is a dispute in RP that can't be resolved. I agree with your sentiment, its beyond me why you'd just leave it up to chance when there isn't anything beyond a dice roll to keep you from winning or losing. Why are D&D fights relevant to LOTC? Because D&D is the heart of all roleplaying games. WoW was inspired off of D&D and warhammer while everquest is inspired directly from it.
