Ashes in the Night

There was no peace for this man. No place for him to rest his head. No where he belonged. His fine suit, once beautiful and tailored to his form, now hung limp- filthy and torn. He cried out in anguish, mind flicking from failure to failure- Malinor, his lost love, his brother, his father, his mission. He could feel the fire in his veins, his aura flaring. His hand twitched uncontrollably as he stumbled down the crumbling stairs deep into the darkness. He thought of Anthos- him home. The beauty of Malinor, his life in the Conclave, his rebellion. Things were different! He only wished he could go back. Change everything. He ripped his sleeves, pulling the once white fabric up, revealing deep, deep scars. Burns. He screamed out in pain at the memory, embers flickering to life around him. He fell to his knees in the puddles, unbelievable pain coursing through his veins- scorching his nerves as Evark had once done years before. He felt his mind erupt just as the volcano he had once trained on had done. He thought of the ball, the friendships. Floragain. Oh, Floragain. Things could have been different. So different. That time was over. That love dead. He felt no more pain. He had no more capacity for pain. Embers flickered to flame, and flame to white hot fire. The stonework melted under the heat. The man could no longer keep the flame from him. His clothing caught alight, a scream coming from his lips. The flame now not only came from around him, but from within, tearing his body apart with its heat. He screamed once again, blue eyes livid with pain. Fire consumed all parts of him, the cavern erupting as his emotions burst. No mourning greeted this sight. Stones fell to bury him, ashes rising from the earth mixed with the dust of  the ruin. Flo'rean Ahern Kryaos Evocress of the Conclave of New Malinor is dead.

Eliza decided to cook beef stew in her Sultanate home that night. Flo was but a memory to her these day, good but distant.
