Anthology of Poems

Caravaggio

Recommended Posts

*You would find this book in the shelf labeled "Orcish Literature". It is probably one of the only books there. Within it, you find a note which reads:*

Herein lie the compiled works of one of the best-known Orcish skalds, Prauta of Gronkston. Some of these works are of great cultural significance to the Uruk people, whilst some seem to have been written for the purposes of recording information, or simply for entertainment.

*The book itself is a shabby, poorly-bound leather book. Its pages feel like they may be vellum, though they feel somewhat different. The handwriting within is clearly different from that of the writer of the note, leading you to believe it is the work of the author herself.*

A Recipe for Halfling Stew

Spoiler

A recipe for Halfling Stew,

Add in tomatoes, one and two.

Ripe and juicy, with flesh of red,

Goes nicely with Halfling’s head.

Round and round goes the pot,

Something tasty is what we got!

Potatoes, onions, and carrots sweet,

Bring out the flavor of Halfling feet.

Try this recipe, if you dare,

But skin them first for Halfling hair.

Try this recipe, and if you do,

It pairs nicely with Cactus Brew.

*Another note is pinned before the next poem.*

"This next poem seems to be an oral history documenting the recent Rex, Drokon'Ugluk."

The Lament for Drokon

Spoiler

Brothers and sisters, gather round,

And hear the tragedy of Drokon rex.

For rumor and mystery do abound,

Of the Orc laid low by a shaman hex.

Let us now reflect upon,

The foul deeds of the orc Drokon.

For murder, madness, and tyranny await,

All those who suffer Drokon’s fate.

The orcish home upon the rock,

Despoiled by the words of Kulgarok,

The twisted blue-skinned Shaman foul,

Who through the lands of spirit prowls.

For though the cost Drokon knew,

Of the dreadful art of the Shaman blue,

The price he did pay in his final hour,

In exchange for the blue one’s power.

Now upon poor Drokon rex,

Did spirits of madness lay their hex.

And upon his mangled brain,

Did they chant their dark refrain.

Battered and broken Drokon became,

And for him the blue one made a foul frame.

So he covered in armor black,

The scars and stain of spirits’ attack.

And as Drokon’s reign did continue,

Among the orcs did hatred brew.

And so many of the clans did conspire,

To end Drokon’s reign with speech or fire.

When news of this plot did Drokon reach,

So did Drokon stomp and screech.

For in Drokons eyes did the Clans betray,

And still the Raguks rot unto this day.

And yet the Rex’s rage was not sated,

So consumed was he with hatred,

That even when Johannesburg did fall,

He killed any who did protest at all.

Seeing what remained of his friend the Rex,

Upon his dark deeds did the blue one reflect.

And so in an attempt for peace,

From Drokon’s madness did the Shaman release.

And so in a moment of truest reprieve,

So was Drokon consumed with grief.

And so in combat the spirit he met,

In order for his honor to correct.

The Mad King Drokon Rex,

The one brought low by a shaman hex.

Down, down, down you go,

To the lands they call Stargush’Stroh.

((OOC Note: These are only the first set of poems I have decided to include. More will be added as I continue to write. Expect to see a few written in Black Speech as I get better at writing in the language.))
