bumblefina 2766 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Spoiler The air is thin this high in the mountains, and the horse beneath me struggles for breath, hooves scraping noisily at the loosened stone fragments. The wind whips about quiet, thrusting the mare’s mane up and about. The hood about my head ripples, but a metal mask remains secure over my face. Staring out across the continental island of Tahn from the very highest peaks of the Greyspine is an unrivaled sight, and it wasn’t the first time I’d seen it. Far below, a grey stone keep sat among enormous redwoods, a lake situated nearby between steep mountains. Carnatia, the place that I had been welcomed to for so many years, lay nestled up against the mountain range. I’d seen it torn down and rebuilt by the hands of the Kovachevs several times, and I wondered if this would be the last iteration. War was an ever turning wagon wheel, bound to crush those who could not withstand it’s weight. Beyond the keep lay another, or rather, the ruins of another. Houndsden had suffered a brutal fate at the hands of the Haensetians. Nothing more than the shell of a keep, the mounds of crumbling rubble were a grim reminder to all who dared face the wrath of the northern people of this cold kingdom. I had been in Carnatia since before the beginning. In truth, I had been with the Kovachevs longer than they realized. The woman I once was served them, under a different name, and before that served the house now waging war against them. Longevity of life is a strange thing. This body has lived a separate life entirely, mostly on a completely different continent, and for reasons I still ponder, was sacrificed so that I might live. Katherine Vallberg is gone, though, and I live on, having forged my own path. I had not known of Katherine’s involvement with the Kovachevs until after I was recruited, finding records written by my very own hand during her time as their steward within their library. It was a shock, as I know very little of Katherine’s life before mine, but I realized that none of the family currently living had known my face. I then learned that Katherine’s youngest still remained with the noble house. Kaisa found me one day when I was passing through the keep, and after a hushed but heated confrontation, it came to be that she knew me, and I knew her, and that we would never speak again. I have not seen the girl in many years now, and I do not know what became of her after the collapse of the empire. I saw the rise of the Kingdom of Haense, and I saw the fall of an empire. I wonder now if I will see another rise or fall. I will fight with the Kovachevs, mounted on a strong steed, riding hard into battle with no fear in me. They are fierce fighters, and incredibly loyal to their cause, and aiding them has it’s own advantages. Feeling satisfied with my thoughts, I turn my mare, tugging her reigns with a gentle hand, and begin to guide her back down the mountainside. We set out soon for Asul, where we meet the Courlandic forces head on. Whatever the outcome will be matters not to one without a soul. The wind still howls among the peaks, the waves still crash against the shores, war wages on lands near and far, but I remain.

The Late Duke Henrik Kovachev would smirk from the Seven Skies.
Rudi 1747 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Somewhere in the lower circles of the Nether a certain individual lights a cigar and puffing out fine smoke. With a crackling voice, indiciating his constant consume of herbs and beverages, he'd burst into a laughter "Ave Courland, mein Engel..!" Before getting tossed into a pit of acid, carrying a wry grin upon his visage.

HurferDurfer1 2978 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Coltaine sits in his lonely keep recalling Katherine , and Aislin, thinking maybe they both were just trying to remember what it's like to be human.
Eggles the Beagles 252 Share Posted March 11, 2017 Kaisa would find herself in a dark desolate place, and not knowing of the war going on. Much of who she was before now finally lost to her, but still she wondered on this night what has become of those she knew in the time before.
