The Battle of the Alderswine

oHSWo9j.jpg

“And his stomach turned to be in the presence of the man who betrayed his own brothers.

But Owyn was filled with godly strength, and recited his ancestry, and did not balk.

Owyn:4:9

The group of cavaliers came to dismount their steeds as the road met with marsh. On foot, boot, and slipper, they trudged through the devilish landscape. Ruins of cities, sinking carriages, and several hanging men dotted the beaten path of forgotten road. The hanged men taunted the entourage, swaying back and forth with sickly grins carved into their features.

At their head, a man in immaculate white robes lead, accompanied by an onyx knight bearing the banner of a pontifical crow. Purples, blacks, and golds trailed behind, each bearing maps, crosses, torches, and spears. A crowned man, black of beard, stepped forth to join the priest.

They made idle conversation, stepping over rotted trees and sunken moats. The dense wood came to par and reveal the ocean’s mouth, pouring into a murky river dubbed the Alderswine. In the distance, the ancient isle of the former Savoyard capital loomed as a reminder of the area’s war torn past.

Another purple-robed individual joined the priest and the crowned man; his head was adorned in a similar fashion to the bearded man. He made a quick conversation with an officer, before drawing a map to the priest and explaining to him some detail or the other. The king and the white garbed man looked on, across the river, to a fort. Upon the fort flew a traitorous flag, its gates drawn shut and a small handful of serfs, ignorant to the army in the marsh, picked the grapes.

The trio nodded, the immaculate man and his knights of black departed back into the swamp; the holy crow banner trailing behind. The army of dragons pitched its tents, its fires, and began to assemble several engines of war.

The two dragons turned to their small force,

“At morn, we cross the Alderswine.”
