Later versions they made it much much more lategame and it takes a lot of power to get into. I also was of such a mind and pretty much Vetoed using it for a while, in 1.10+ it's really intensive. Edit: Also as an aside, just so you know if Vaskii (Botania mod author) saw you say this he'd be internally screaming. He has stated many times he designed botania to be less about grinding/max power and more about cool mechanics and systems. He'd probably punch you if he got a chance (This is the reason why mana pools don't have #'s on them.) 0 Yeah I played it on 1.7.10, no clue about the later version. Tfw a mod author thinks making end game bosses and end game gear w/ a tedious mana system won't attract people who grind hardcore for endgame.
