THE HARIAN FESTIVAL: 12th of The Grand Harvest, 1631.

Hear ye, hear ye,

Come all, come see,

The jaunty dance, the mummers play,

Geldmeister’s thespians: clad in gold, clad in gay,

But a trick resided down within; down deep,

Far down within one’s sleeve

It will be known. Like the tales of bygone pāst,

As the mummers play, the mummer's farce.

A flask of red, red as blood,

Flew through the air and hit the mud,

It hit the crowd, it hit the clowns,

And spit hot fire, which brought them down

Into writh’n heaps of reddened flame,

Seared flesh, raw, faces twist'd in pain

The onlookers glared, each one aghāst,

They cursed the mummer’s play the mummer's farce…
