The Haense Offensive

‘The Siege of Courland’s Fort’, a resounding victory for the coalition, resulting in the occupation of the Northern territory of Haense and further territories c. 1635

“Stand by for action. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Axisbirds are go!”
- Prince Erolas Ba’ikana as he signals the first aerial offensive of the Axis Air Corp.

The coalition had finally arrived at ‘Courland’s Fort’, occupied by Haense and was due to begin laying siege. Sappers quickly began to dig trenches at the command of their officers and contingents of soldiers patrolled the newly established camp, preventing and beating back raids from deserters. The beginning stages of the siege proved troublesome, attrition became a huge factor and most duties were delegated to foraging, food and managing equipment supply.

On the night of the attack, the leaders of the coalition met in the command tent, each commander was given a responsibility in the battle, whether that be to ensure the defence of the camp or press forward into an open breach. It was decided that the High King of Kaz’Ulrah and his legionary cohorts would hold back at the camp, effectively manning the trebuchets as well as locating soft targets in the keep. The King of Santegia and the Rex of Krugmar would continue their highly efficient horse skirmishing technique. Their job was to harass the fortress itself, firing volleys up at the siege crew as well as preventing a mass sally through the front gate. The King of Norland and the Warhawkian skirmishers sallied forth from the camp and stood out of range of enemy siege weaponry, held in reserve for an opportune charge. The Warlord of the Deathskullz and the Prince of the Warhawkes climbed the mountain, suiting up a small brigade of men in gliders. Their job was to eliminate enemy siege equipment as well as harass and kill any active crewmen.

In the morning the attack had just begun, fires lit on the mountain signalled the offensive and men fell into position. The glorious sound of war echoed throughout the mountain range, trebuchets firing, arrows landing and horses neighing it was the sound of a notorious chaotic conflict. The fortress took several blows from the trebuchets, tanking at least sixty shots before the walls had showed weakness. The south western tower had began to collapse and slowly it’s rubble filled the moat. The Axis Air Corp kicked into full flight, they jumped together in sync and provided aerial superiority for the forces below. Enemy trebuchets, archers, crewman or even knights were no match for the Air Corps as they glided throughout the air, circling the fortress as if they were sirens to a lowly fishermans boat. Their newly effective use of warfare became a severe success as they landed on undefended parts of the fortress, slaying a few soldiers before disembarking off the edge in flight once again.

As the Axis Air Corp circled it’s prey, the Orenian and Urguanite alliance reconvened to combat it. Ballistas and crossbows began firing into the air, unfortunately a single bolt clipped the wings of the Luke Dunamis and he was sent plummeting into the thick snow below. The single casualty of the Axis Air Corp. After several successful trebuchets hits, the tower crumbled and the main army moved forward into action. Norlandic, Warhawkian and Frostbeard infantry charged into the open breach and slaughtered thousands, cleaning up the survivors of both the Air Corp and horse skirmishers.

The fortresses flags were swiftly lowered and replaced with the single standard of the coalition, the white eagle on a black field. This action symbolised the ensuing victory and so men who saw its rise fought with great savagery, slaying the remaining soldiers of the Reiters mercenary group. The second battle of the coalition's war against the Empire of Oren and the Kingdom of Urguan was won. It would not be their last taste of victory.
