A Call to the Ironguts

An Irongut Courier in the Field, c. 1636

 

Couriers dressed in grey cloaks with blue ribbons tied around their forearms would ride their mountain ponies through various cities and towns, going to the verified addresses of every recognized Irongut, whether they be blooded or unblooded. The parchments handed off would be thick and made of goat vellum, rolled into scrolls sealed with blue wax. The bulging sigil on the stamps, that of a mug of ale and a sword, suggests that the letters are especially important, pertinent to clan-wide activities.

 

"To the descendants of Dwain: the sons of Draco and Heron,

and Hiebe and Kilgrim and Alfy and Skippy

and Sharr and Grungron, and Hogarth and Kardel and their cousinry:

Hail and may you be prosperous! 

By the will of Anbella and for the memory of our ancestors,

the members of clan Irongut are here asked to convene in two stone days,

as per the wishes of certain Elders in their midst,

to discuss and talk about the state of affairs and to address the matter of things,

so that our clan may continue to be united and strong,

and so that our name rings in eternity in honor of our ancestors.

 

The aforementioned moot shall take place in the fifth hour after the noon of the last working day of the stone's week,

at the sea-rock of Khaz'Drakkon in that fortress's antechamber.

Ale and mead and foodstuffs both sweet and savory shall be made available,

and honor shall be linked as per our ancestral customs,

and we shall speak in the Irongut tongue as per our ancestral customs,

and we shall worship the Brathmordakin as per our ancestral customs,

so as to provide unity and strength of both kin and seed.

 

Let it be known that any son of Dwain who refuses to attend without the best of reasons shall be considered ashamed, and that his ale shall be from thereon handed to him from under the thigh in mockery, and that his reputation shall be scorned.

 

And let it be further known that any not of the clan shall not be allowed into the rock of Drakkon"
