The Strong Oak, and The Withered Grass

Recommended Posts

In the far frigid air of the Yaeti Wasteland, the looming temple brought not fear, but wonder to the young elves eyes. Despite the cold that sank into her very bones, the icy chill that froze her long black hair, the faint tug that she had felt, guided her across the freezing snow to this location. The night sky which had a sun that never rose, sprinkled with stars that didn't twinkle, but instead shone a cold deathly gaze.

Outside, blocking her entrance was thick iron gate. She reached to knock on it, only to see an armored clad figure standing motionlessly behind it.

"You come here for the Temple of Xion? The slightly muffled and cold voice said. It was a man's voice.

"Yes.The elven lady responded, lowering her hand.

The first gate rose, and stepping inside, there wasn't a relief from the frigid cold.

"Do you have any weapons or magic on you?

"A longbow, and Apprentice level."

"I shall let you in once. If you wish to follow our path, cast away your weapon the next time you come. Otherwise there will be punishments."

The second gate rose, and within the icy walls, a no roof structure allowed snow to fall on the floor. In the center laid a small effigy, and to the four cardinal directions, North, laid the direction from which she had come. South, laid a fiery effigy. To the East, laid a quiet effigy. And finally to the West, laid an Earth effigy.

"Do you know what we stand for? What Xion really is?"

The elven lady shook her head. "I am loosely familiar."

Throughout the time she spent there, learning about their beliefs, she wondered why the races seemed to despise them. For what had they done besides worship 'false' Lords? There was no real proof of any other, she recalled. No other Gods or Goddesses had descended into the mortal world, and shown their gifts. Nether, even the monks at the Cloud Temple weren't considered Gods, they where just men with powers beyond those of necromancers. To be fair, as the armored clad figure left, the dim torchlight surrounding her in an eerie glow, their Lords had also not made their presence known. Not one figure, The Ascpets, The Lords, all the human religions, the Kha's Moon Goddess, the Dwarves Pantheon, or the Orc's tribal shaman's, had shown a true gift for communicating with the mortal world. She wondered why they sought to cling themselves to Gods that weren't really there.

A few hours later, sitting among the Earth effigy, wearing a new set of clothes, a full covering of robes and a mask, she snugged deeper into the warmth of her clothes, to prevent the bitting winds from freezing her backside. She looked up at the earth effigy, and in a small sort of prayer, she spoke softly.

"To the creed of Xion I do proclaim myself a follower of the Path of Oaks and the Path of the Nameless Way. Per the rules, I take an oath of pacifism, to harm no living or undead creature in my rest of my living days. However, unlike the Path of Oaks, I do not think all races should become only human, so I shall follow The Nameless Way, which I believe that the races should remain how they are, and constant strife is unavoidable.  I shall follow the rules of the kin, and in public, I shall worship a false God to protect my identity, and to make sure I don't burn on a cross alive. The female figure paused. "The Creator, blessed be His name, I pray to you to guide my soul through this path, to protect those I love and cherish, and my new brothers and sisters."

The figure rose, giving a short bow before heading out into the deeper cold.
