Annsden Abbey

It was on an early summer morning in the hinterlands of Hanseti, in the Year of Our Lord 1648, when the Annsden Abbey of Jorenus was founded by His Eminence, Archbishop Elphias and Sister Judith of Czena. Once founded, the Archbishop of Jorenus tonsured Sister Judith into becoming the Second Abbess of the Canonist Church and Mother Superior of the holy sisterhood, succeeding the like of Lorina Carrion of Vekaro. Mother Judith and Sister Yuliya are among the first of the nuns to incorporate themselves into the holy institution, with modest plans to bring the Light of GOD to the women of the human bastions, and cleanse the countryside of lost, impure and misguided souls. The principles of the patron saint of Julia are the main attributions that will drive the sisters - chastity, purity, loyalty and the strength to resist wickedness and temptation.

“And all took concubines, except for Horen, who took only one wife. And her name was Julia, and he kept their union holy.” – Book of Horen, Verse II, The Scroll of Gospel

Though a meek community, the sisters are fierce in their contribution to the Church and to the people. The Abbey itself is a modest build, formatted to meet the ascetic needs of a convent of monastic servants. Fitted with an infirmary, a central office, misericord, scriptorium and library, as well as monastic cells for the nuns that inhabit the walls, the Annsden Abbey is a reserved and quiet place for all women of the Canonist faith. The Sisters of Annsden carry humble intentions to offer aid to the ailed, shelter to the poor, and food and charity to the impoverished and weak. Mother Judith draws inspiration from the late Order of St. Julia, a sixteenth century sisterhood that shared very similar hopes.

“Our mission is simple – to lead those in darkness back home to the Lord. To cast out wickedness. To convert the heathen. To condemn the heretic. And to live by St. Julia’s glorious example.”  Mother Lorina of Vekaro, 1519

The Sisters of Annsden

The patron saint of the Abbey, St. Julia, is a paragon of physical and spiritual purity to which all Sisters must adhere. All who subscribe to the Canonist Faith and her example are welcome within the Sisterhood of Annsden. A letter can be sent to the Abbess Judith of Jorenus to begin your initiation into the Church.

All vowed sisters must be women and elect to live within the abbey. Women of any age and race are accepted, as long as they convert or are converted to Canonism. Upon introduction a Sister belongs to the Church until they perish or are removed through the hand of His Holiness, or the Abbess. Sworn sisters must adhere and subscribe to the tenets of the Sisterhood and the Church or face reduction or removal.

Ranks

Sister - Sisters are sworn members of the Church of Canon. They wear a black habit, a coif, and must have their hair shorn to chin length. They are sworn to holy vows of poverty, chastity, purity and sobriety. The Sisters of Annsden reside within the abbey. Sisters are assigned various tasks and chores by their abbess, which they must uphold with earnest effort.

Abbess - The authoritative figure of both the Sisterhood and the Abbey of Annsden. The abbess wears a black habit and coif, the same as her sisters. The Abbess assigns tasks, promotes the women, and delegates assignments among the servants and sisters of Annsden. The Abbess leads weekly Scroll Study, meditation and prayer. The Abbess leads and plans wider operations and initiatives, relaying with the noble peerage and clergy of other dioceses. The current Abbess is Mother Judith of Jorenus.

"Wasn't Lorina hunted down for having relations with a Lord and rebelling against the faith?" Jan says aloud, looking over at the missive. "Either way, GOD bless them."
