The Synod of 1648

 

6th of The Deep Cold, 1648

 

 

 

Vice Chancellor Elphias stood outside before the great doors of the Adamantine Cathedral, addressing the crowd of Clergy and Ordermen.

 

“Brethren in GOD,

 

It saddens my heart to announce that our beloved Clement III is abdicating the sacred Exalted Throne. However it is our duty as members of the Church to find an Apostolic Successor for our Holy Mother Church and to carry on its sacred traditions. In accordance to such, I hereby call the Members of the Synod to Marna for Conclave to select a successor for the office of Vicar of GOD.”

 

The Vice Chancellor then turned on his heels as the great doors of the Cathedral opened, the following Bishops marched forth in procession of chants to the Saints and Exalted, preparing for the following election.

 

The following electors shall cast their votes for the next High Pontiff:

 

-Archbishop Elphias [Adder]

-Archbishop Novatian Besel [OverlordCommand]

-Archbishop Nathanael of Aeston [sandey0000]
-Bishop Bernard Solomon [_octofishie_]
-Bishop Robert Rovin [Zhulik]

 

Only and limiting the aforementioned individuals may post on this thread. Voting shall conclude when all eligible electors have placed their votes.

Archbishop Elphias of Metz, Archbishop of Jorenus, Proto-hegumen of all monastics, Pontifical Secretary, and Vice-Chancellor of the Holy Canonist Church rose from his seat among those assembled within the Conclave. With a rather loud tone he spoke before his Brothers in GOD these words:

 

Esteemed brethren,

 

It saddens me deeply that His Holiness found himself lacking a wellspring of hope as GOD’s vicar upon our plane, yet I pray for his well being and recovery of all that ails him with direct intercession from those who have passed before him in the Seven Skies. We must now select a new Pontiff to lead our Church and GOD’s faithful in the time of the Vacant See. I, as Vice-Chancellor of the Curia, feel that the Pontiff Emeritus trusted and, in his judgment, felt it right to make me his second, and thus I place my name upon the list of Pontiffs-to-be. Over my years as Archbishop of Jorenus, my Archdiocese has naught but thrived! I ordained many priests, consecrated monastics, and first and foremost ministered to the faithful dutifully and without lack of diligence.

 

If it were not for the gifts GOD himself gifted upon my person, the gifts to minister to His flock, I wouldn’t even had considered such a position. With these gifts, I shall, GOD willing, become the Servant of the Servants at the altar of GOD, ensuring stability and peace within His Church and His chosen people. If you, my brethren, are enlightened to elect me into the Pontificate-I shall offer you all my being in order to safeguard the Church for any harm that may come to her. I shall be a loving father to all within our blessed communion, bringing new energy to the Mother Church and all those who seek succor from her!

 

I beseech you all, esteemed brethren, for you to place my name into your prayers of consideration, for the time has come for a new servant to be selected. I will do everything in my GOD given ability to govern the church sagely. Through this, I shall continue the work of our esteemed Pontiffs of the past, Clement II, Everard IV and Clement III while embracing the future of the Holy Canonist Church grounded in the roots of our tradition.

 

Archbishop Elphias would conclude his short speech with a prayer, entreating the Holy Light and the intercession of all the great Saints of the Church who have shown forth wondrous miracles and have humbled the hearts of the Pontiff's past. Finally, he signed a name to the card before him, deposited it, and returned to his seat.
