It’s Mardi Gras season, and that means it is the best time to HAVE a good time! As a Louisiana Swamp Monkey myself, I enjoy Mardi Gras festivities and challenge each of you to see if you can do at least one of the following festivities. Though Mardi Gras is really only big in the south (from what I know) there are still many parades across North America, and starting on the 23 there will be parades in Central and South America (they have a Mardi Gras ripoff called Carnival).

To kick off the festivities, I will show you my favorite cajun music and things to do during Mardi Gras season!

Have a Crawfish boil! I know that those little crustaceans may be intimidating at first, but give them a try and I promise that you will like them (a little tip is to mix mayonnaise and ketchup in a 1:1 ratio and dip the tails in that). For a bonus cook them yourself! It is really not hard and the only ingredients you need are crawfish, crab boil and if you are feeling extra some traditional sides such as sausage, potatoes, or corn.

Buy a King Cake! These circular French cakes signify the start of the Epiphany which is when the three wise men came and gave gifts to baby Jesus. There is a plastic baby hidden in each king cake and the person who gets the slice with the baby is named King for a day! Though they have to host the party and buy the king cake next year.

Go to a parade! Mardi Gras parades are great, loud music blasting while beads and toys are being thrown all around. Go out for a day and see how many beads you can catch! But if you get the chance to ride on a float and throwing beads take it! It can be a blast. Now if you are out parading and partying you might want to stop by your local pub and get a daiquiri! We have drive through daiquiris in Louisiana so they are a Mardi Gras staple along with a Hurricane Cocktail.

As a fellow Swamp Monkey I endorse this. All of the following activites are fun and enjoyable and I would highly recommend doing one of them.

You talk about mardi gras as though you're a true swamp monkey.

I live in new orleans, get fucked.

its not Mardi Gras, its Carnaval sometimes I watch the television just to see the women dancing, but lately i've been afraid that I might be seeing a woman with balls, so I get a bit suspicious.

grumble.
