On Purity

From our fated end we travelled,

To a far off land clearly unaltered

Desperate we Silver Elves were

Our livelihoods unravelled

But there we found our mother!

Larihei’s smile guided us under the sky

Her beautiful city with much to uncover

Shining like a blue moon above all others

Oh blessed mother, our most supreme

There is no other that can rival your dream

Your smile heals our souls like morning gleam

Like how milk heals our blessed bodies

On Purity

Adilir Fi’talareh of Macaele, 1672

Purity is the cornerstone of the society of the Silver Elves, without it, we are nothing but the generic, immoral Elves and descendants who once populated Malinor. It is not a bold statement to say our superiority comes from our understanding and wisdom of the world through our purity that comes from the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.

High elven purity is derived first and foremost from the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, and no work on purity would be complete without briefly going over how this most fundamental saying defines our way of life. The maehr’sae hiylun’ehya simply means ‘the pursuit of wisdom and health’, though it is often simply stated as ‘progress and health’ which has practically the same meaning. Though this saying at first glance appears to be trivial, the intricacies of such a statement are best not ignored. We shall explore this next.

First we shall start with a bold claim, and then prove it: the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya is natural law (meaning the law that all creatures abide by to live in this case). For a creature to survive it must preserve its health, the examples of this are too numerous to list. This preservation of health coincides with the pursuit of health found in the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, and perhaps those of ancient Haelun’or saw their saying as the product of their considerations of natural law.

But all these creatures, such as the rabbit of the field who knows how to dig borrows from birth or the cat who inherently fears water, have been endowed with wisdom in the form of instincts. But we, the Silver elves or any descendant, do not have this. We only have what our society and parents taught us and therefore life is a continuous pursuit of wisdom to survive. So once again, the philosophers of our kind in the age of yore saw this through their studies on natural law, which perhaps led to the foundation of the purity doctrine.

Overall the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya is the natural law for all creatures and beings that are not bound by instinct. For if a person neglects their health, they will surely die; if their kind neglects their health as a whole, they will surely die out; and if any of them neglect their pursuit of wisdom, sooner or later in a perilous situation they will surely die. And from this, the doctrine of purity comes forth as adhering to these tenets. It is illogical that purity has any other meaning other than to be natural law, for that would mean it is an ideology with no basis, which of course will not stand when put to the test.

From this, the definition of mental purity is easily found. Firstly, all creatures must attempt to progress in their pursuit of wisdom and health. For the pursuit of wisdom, this a very broad definition, and it can be shown to cover many facets of life, but in essence a Silver Elf must not be idle and instead contribute to their kind. As for the other, to pursue health of themselves and their kind, a Silver Elf must not do anything that would damage their health or otherwise lead to an early death. The must also contribute offspring, for that is how the health of our kind increases. In fact: any homosexual or anyone detests the idea of having children should be considered mentally impure.

To find how physical purity is derived, we must first go back to the story of Larihei and how she encouraged our ancestors to bath in the blessed Golden Pools. Through this action we found an identity as a new kind, superior only through the merit of ascending into a fairer form. They were no longer the kin of Malin, but rather this new kind, completely separate from the others.

Thus as we are a seperate people now, we must endeavour to pursue the health of our own kind. As mentioned before under mental purity, no Silver Elf must do something that would do something that would lead to a wasteful death. Procreating with other races, especially Humans, results in the dilution of our race’s attributes and provides side-effects (often referred to as curses) that cannot be bred out. Because of this, procreating with other races is exceptionally impure.

And what of those who do not follow this laws? If they do not follow natural law, then they are at the least defective and will not contribute to their kind or their own health, then they are simply leading a life that will end with the destruction. As they are contary to the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, they are simply an abomination.

It would be best if all peoples followed the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, however this will not happen for at least  a long time. Only when the lesser peoples see the peril in worshipping gods or following convoluted philosophies will they see the logic of the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya through simple induction. And despite this, we Silver Elves must continue on. Thankfully, there is a simple test to check if your actions are pure or not: do they benefit your longevity? Do they benefit your kind’s longevity?

Now, many of those who will read this will attempt to create look holes to justify their impure desires and to circumvent our blessed tradition. Thus below is a set of topics relating to important issues in the society of the Enclave.

Firstly, on the issue of magic, some might claim it is impure for the sole detriment that it saps physical strength. While this does make one physically weaker, the trade off for the abilities it provides to further the High Elven race is much greater than what is lost. Moreover, through the study of magic, mages are pursuing wisdom, which considering the power of this otherworldly force, will eventually help our kind.

Secondly, some of the weaker members of our kind might say that we should worship gods, for their power is near infinite, This is not true, for gods are devious beings much like every other creature, they enslave lessers to do their bidding. They would have us put them above ourselves and our kind. Moreover, their goals are not to preserve our kind, and thus following them is breaking the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. It is similar to how a dove does not care for what happens to the sparrow, for they both care about their own survival. What does a sparrow gain by following a dove which will do nothing to help it?

Thirdly, there is a large swath of information that has been spread around saying that scars are impure. Now, this is an oversimplification of an issue which we High Elves should be above. There is in fact nothing wrong with being scared, however if a Silver Elf intentionally is branded or something of the like, then it is a sign that perhaps they do not value their own health. This, of course, means they are not following the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.

Fourthly, war is a most contentious topic, but the truth is very brief. If a war is needed for the survival of the Silver State, in essence: if the High Elven race will not be able to survive and progress because of the threat of another nation or race, then the war is justified. We, as an intellectual race, should not be tempted to stretch this definition to cover our own desires for dominion over others. For as our history shows: this is wonderful short term, however sooner or later they will betray us (see the coup of 1475). Moreover, any action that could result in the unnecessary death of a High Elf should be avoided, as that would prevent them from pursuing wisdom or health and overall affect the health of our kind (however minutely it might seem). Thus, this narrows the definition of ‘needed for survival’ to be practically only defensive wars. Therefore, all imperialistic or offensive actions are simply impure.

This can all be summarised into the two following points. If you doubt that an action that you are about to do is pure, ask yourself the following questions: Will it further my people’s health? Will it furter my health? Will it allow me to progress in my pursuit of wisdom? If you answer no to any one of these questions, then your actions might very well be impure. Moreover, if the definition of purity prevents you from progressing and being able to effectively maintain the healthy of our kind, then it is more than appropriate for you to be spending long nights pondering purity. No doubt if our leaders cannot cannot be exemplar pure Elves, then there is likely a problem with the definition of purity.

Thus we find why purity is the cornerstone of High Elven society and the whole world. Through our understanding of this, we should show our superiority in clear decision making that benefits our kind. Thus we High Elves must mediate always on what the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya means, and how to implement it in our lives.
