A Mother's Memory

Tan skin taut and veiny, head twitching with every eastward gust, a Mali’ame patrols the Loftywoods ‘til finding the lone umbrella pine high on the cliffs. Dozens upon dozens of flowers surrounding its base: roses, dahlias, peonies, azaleas, & camellias, not a single in bloom. A redless bed barely gleaming before the dawn. Save for one crimson tulip, cradled like a tiny heart, bare hands digging without a word. A tender touch transplants it into the ground as the ‘ame listens carefully. Entranced. An echo from the canopy. A melody sung between every bird huddled in its nest, heartfelt like the hands clutching his heart.
”O’ woes of winter, whispering from lands unknown.
Know the love of our beating hearts,
wishing to be whisked wherever you go.
O’ woes of winter, when we’re buried beneath the snow.
Steel our souls through the coming pains,
and together we’ll brave the unknown.”

The ‘ame pauses.
“Blessed be a cherished son.”

((You’re a strong mother and an admirable role model. Lots of love to you and the family. I’d drive up to hug you senseless if that was feasible. I’m always available if you want to talk and I sincerely hope my condolences can amount to anything.))

I’m so sorry, and I hope that you can somehow find a way to enjoy the holidays, just be with your family.

Ascanius traverses through the loftywoods, finally settling down between two trees. He takes a seat on the forest floor, prepping candles and a seed. Within a minute he has managed to scrape away some soil, forming it into a small hole.

“Come spirits from across the ocean, join with your brother who waits here, Take him across the meadow and moor, Take him across the blissful ocean, May he find peace and joy as he finds his way to the white sun.” said Ascanius, the candles flickering in the restless breeze as he spoke. He placed the seed into the soil, placing the dirt on top of it. “Vedaust.”

((My condolences, Delmodan. Stay strong and stay safe.))
