The Will of a beloved brother.

As the sun sets over curonia, the young princess enters the palace, facing her brother Ecbert as he stands upon the dais, clearly unwell. As the pair talk, he hands her his will, tells her about the false Devereux, Arthos. This man pretends to be a Devereux, he is not to become Regent. Charles is to take the place of Ecbert. Evie stands to nod to her brother, holding back her emotions as he walks to her, embracing him, they speak in hushed tones. Her promise to share his will as he as asked, and his gift to her, permission to marry her betrothed.

Evie leaves holding her tears until she reaches home, then as her tears fall, the young princess writes letters, including her brothers, will before sending them off to each of the mentioned people as well as to the people of curonia, haense , and adria.

The Final Will and Testimony of Ecbert Devereux

To Joseph I of Marna: Your Imperial Majesty, I ask for your forgiveness and the forgiveness of the people of Curonia. I was weak and allowed myself to be swayed by honeyed words. Whilst I do believe the people of Curonia should be a free and independent people, as our glorious nation was founded as a sovereign one, there were better ways that could have been accomplished. Forgive my people, your Imperial Majesty, for your mercy and wisdom is what makes your the rightful leader on men.

To Lady Klaudia of House Novaux: You have been a true friend, Lady Klaudia. Always completing whatever task you were given without hesitation for the greater good of Curon and always offering solid and wise advice. I have one last task for you, Lady Klaudia, please watch over my children. You are the only person in this wretched world I trust my children’s lives with. Do not fail me, you never have before.

To Ser Charles of House Montagne: You are the only man in this world I would consider a brother. I trust to you, and you alone, the tutelage and guidance of my young nephew, King Alfred II Edgar. Marna is the way, Ser Charles. Continue to fight as you always have until the bitter end. I eagerly await your arrival in the Seven Skies so that I may continue to drink you under the table.

To my family: Very few of you are worthy of the name Devereux. The children are the future of our House and I believe most of you ought to stay out of their lives for the greater good of our House.

To the Houses of Merentel, Keint, Silversteed, and Suffolk: You are all worthless, treasonous, cowards. May you all meet the fate you deserve in the afterlife.

To the people of Curonia: It has been my life’s greatest pleasure to lead you. I have given you my everything and I would gladly do it again, without hesitation. We are a strong people, capable of anything. Do not ever forget this. It is my final act as Prince Regent of Curonia to name Ser Charles of House Montagne as Lord Regent of Curonia until my nephew comes of age. Ser Charles is a great man, follow him. He will not lead you astray.

Signed,

Ecbert Godwine of House Devereux, Prince-Regent of the Kingdom of Curonia, Prince of Evreux

The news would be brought to Ser Charles’ attention while he was in his taven, when he realized what he was reading, a small stream of tears would run down his face. ”You will be missed, my friend, my brother. We will lead Curon to greatness, we will not forget your sacrifice, we will not forget your triumph, rest well my brother, for I will see you again.” He would say to himself.

Erec Keint of Blackden simply sighs as he reads the will of Ecbert, shaking his head before ripping the will in two. ”You have brought this upon yourselves, it grieves me that you hold such venomous hatred toward us. Wilhelm must frown upon you in the Seven Skies.”  He’d sign The Cross in respect to his former liegelord, and throws the paper away.

“I only wish my brother may have passed without such hatred”  mutters Anabel, folding the missive neatly together. ”This will is evidence of the unjust spite he held in his heart. May GOD see him fit in the seven skies”
