Reinhard and Natalya in Freisburg, 1739, commissioned by the resident court artist.

A STAG IS TAMED

THE MARRIAGE OF

REINHARD KONSTANZ BARCLAY &

NATALYA ELIZAVETA RUTHERN

Long had the houses of Barclay and Ruthern anticipated a union between Konstanz and Natalya, a peculiar flock of lovebirds that indulged themselves with the differences of their minds as much as their roots. Yet due to the tragedy of the unforeseen, Konstanz could not live to attend his own wedding.

Natalya sought consolation with the youngest brother Reinhard, who’s more introverted character appealed to her need for tenderness. She wept in his arms as much as he overcame through her words. A foundation of tragedy, on which they would found their love. Throughout the weeks of mourning, both would discover that their differences paled in comparison to their similar mental cabinet of rarities: lovebirds of their own special kin, a link that no circumstance can supersede. With the blessing of Lord Wilheim Barclay, and having been served Lok by Lord Siguine Ruthern, a marital union between House Barclay and House Ruthern was established once again.

An ancient house breaking bread with the nouveau riche, a tradition breaking union with both romantic and political implications. Whether fate will be kind to these lovebirds, remain yet to be seen. The humble ceremony and the private attendance of the finest friends proved one thing however: there was more to these friendships than mere political gain.

At the 11th of Gronna and Droba, 292 ES, nearing Dusk, Brother Boniface had officiated the wedding between REINHARD KONSTANZ BARCLAY and NATALYA ELIZAVETA RUTHERN in the Basilica of Fifty Virgins, that still stood in the ruins of old Reza. He spoke:

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of GOD to join together this man and this woman in the holy union of Matrimony; instituted by GOD himself, commended in the Holy Scrolls to be honourable among all men. Therefore is not by any to be taken in hand, unadvisedly, lightly or wantonly; but reverently, discreetly, soberly, and in the fear of GOD, duly considering the causes for which Matrimony was ordained.” he’d join the bride and groom’s hands together, murming a prayer of Union: “Sic enim Horen et Julia, ita nobis quoque. Hanc unionem nos in omni loco oculi Domini solidatur, quia et nos ipsi propius adducere, ut ad sancta sanctorum collegiorum. Benedicm Domine, hunc anulum qui operetur et praesta ut qui fideliter induere invicem, et in pace et gratia, et cohabitant inebriemur uberibus donec vitae est. Per Dominum nostrum.” then he went to proceed to hold the rings in reach of the bride & groom, asking:

“Reinhard Konstanz Barclay. Will you have this woman to be thy wedded wife, to live together according to GOD’s law in the holy union of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honour and keep her, in sickness and in health? And, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?”

Reinhard replied: “Aye, I shall, with GOD as my witness.” Placing the ring onto Natalya’s finger as Brother Boniface proceeded:

“Natalya Elizaveta Ruthern. Will you have this man to be thy wedded husband, to live together according to GOD’s law in the holy union of Matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honour and keep him, in sickness and in health? And, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto him, so long as ye both shall live?”

Natalya replied in a similar fashion: “Aye, I shall, with GOD as my witness.”, placing the ring onto Reinhard’s finger.

Brother Boniface then concluded: “You may now kiss the bride”, and so he did, under the jolly attendance of his closest friends: Jacques de Beaumont, Marcus Erdhart, Aleck Graham, Duke Aleksandr Henrik Ludovar, House Barclay & House Ruthern. And thus, they were married, and would continue to exist under GOD’s watchful eye as husband and wife.

The young lad, Robert, would be hearing these news as then he’d make a smirk with a laugh “Hm! That man I met is getting married, well I must say congrats to him as soon as I can.”
