冰冻三尺，非一日之寒。

Bīngdòng sān chǐ, fēi yīrì zhī hán.

 "It takes more than one cold day for a river to freeze a meter deep."

Chī dé kǔzhōngkǔ, fāng wéi rénshàngrén.

Chen Linli sat in a small book nook in the Chen Manor reading the newest edition of her mother's proverbs. She read them over and over, pondering their meaning. She thought about her experiences in her short life, wondering if these proverbs applied to different situations she had walked through. She had a feeling they did.
