Written below is a recollection of the night’s events by a Whitespirian citizen;

Amidst the golden hues of a setting sun, a rhythmic beat could be heard. The drumming sound of armorclad men stepping into the confines of the marble city was apparent to all. Under the cover of dusk they had hoped to be concealed by the shadows the towering city cast, however, were soon confronted following their recent royal ban.

Within the streets, the men and women of Whitespire sought safety within the confines behind the iron bars that separate the Hand of Horen from the greater City of Whitespire. However, with the leadership of Ser Gawyn Tiber, the industrious citizens rallied alongside one another to defend their fair city from the band of Caelians.

They were offered passage, and warned of the severity of their ban, but such attempts were not fruitful. After a fierce combat, where the Whitespire citizens outnumbered the Caelian rally six to three, the Caelians were defeated and brought to trial.

Quickly, were the surviving Caelians brought to trial before The Grandmaster and the Viscountess of Valence. Where, despite the uproar from the people, the youngest of the three was spared and punished with the loss of his hand alongside confession held by the Bishop Buron and a life under the watchful eye of God.

By the night’s end, two of their men were hanged, and the youngest of the three promised to the church with only a hand missing as penance for his crimes.

Confirmed by the Viscountess of Valence

In this, the year of our Lord, 1936, the Caelians have been brought to justice in a Court of Law. Following a failed attempt of a raid, in hopes to harm merchant brothers, Boon and Bane, they were captured and stood trial before the Grandmaster and dowager Crown Princess.

Verdict was delivered sentencing the elder two to hang, and the youngest to lose a hand and be conscripted to the church as he confessed his guilt for his crimes.

Despite this, the ban is still in effect and Caelians seen within our ivory city are to be brought to justice for their crimes.

SIGNED,

Her Royal Highness, Adela of High Peak

Viscountess of Valence, Dowager Lady of Alba

Sir Gawyn of House Tiber

Ser Gawyn scowled, remembering the two men hanging limply. He shook off the memory and went about his day, as if nothing had happened.

The illustrious, eminent, omnipresent, acclaimed, notable, all-seeing, prominent, foremost leading merchant in all of Whitespire, half of Boon and Bane's and Logistics Guy, Bane, offered a stern thumbs up toward the missive. "It just seems they can't get the message to leave me and my brother alone! It's always ended up the same way, and it will keep endin' up like this." And with that, he went back to helping his brother decorate their new relocated enterprise.

Sir Zugha shook his head. "Good on the Oonians for the quick judgmen' on the men, as they gave me once. But to give the young lad to the Bishop o' Buron, who'd 'old 'im as a slave? T'ain't right. God knows 'is Grace is a tyrant in priestie garbs."

The racket against the gilded gates outside the Hand of Horen, that many-spired palace, drew Cunimund's attention as he loitered on the edge of the bridge separating the island where the palace stood from the remainder of the capitol. He approached the gate from the other side to find Boon calling out to him. After a few seconds passing through the gatehouse, he came out the other side with his scutum shield strapped to his left forearm and his right hand reaching for a javelin from the clutch on the underside of his shield.

"We've got trouble in the city square!" Boon exclaimed, his hands tightening more and more along the pole of his pitchfork with each word.

Cunimund motioned for Boon to stand behind him and brought his scutum in front of his body, crouching, and held his now-drawn javelin in an overhand position. Boon complied, falling in behind him and holding his pitchfork in a poor imitation of a tercio formation. The two men marched towards the city square, the forms becoming more apparent with each yard they covered. Caelian hastati closed ranks as more and more Aaunic soldiers encircled them. Cunimund picked up his pace, breaking into a light jog while Boon fell behind, as the urban combat began.

Cunimund launched his drawn javelin and grabbed his karnyx warhorn as they approached. A few bugles introduced his own charge into the melee and the Aaunic soldiers earned victory after a few hours of hand-to-hand combat. Those hastati who had not been slain, but captured, were brought swiftly to the assembly hall for trial. Cunimund, blissful with the long-forgotten adrenaline of combat, searched the captured Caelians and sat to question the youngest of the captives who had offered himself to the church for conversion. Through their symbols, you will know them. Spot their symbols, you will learn where they hide.
