The Heroes of Petra smile from above. All grudges, eternally forgiven. "I owe everything to my people and their enduring spirit. To the Heroes of the Petra, without which my reign would have come to an abrupt and humiliating end during the Petran Civil War." Sir Paul Montalt rests fortunately for Queen Renilde, for if she were to have betrayed the virtues of the Republic further in his life-time, it may have very well culminated in a blood bath that far surpassed the Petran Civil War. Alas, fortunately for her, the dead do not speak. After all, it is only the wicked and truly heartless who would reap the rewards of others' blood and toil, and for them the only joy that's owed to them is being subjected to the fruits of their own listless wickedness. Justice comes for all who abuse the trust of others eventually, whether they be man or wan or woman, human or elf, noble or peasant. At least, that is what one would hope. And so another chapter closes in the omnibus of human betrayals. A republic destroyed by conniving gentry, Balianite insurrectionists and a return to despotism. A gift of cowardice that keeps on giving until eventually it crumbles down beneath the weight of its own lies.
marikandaperc 1818 Share Posted October 30, 2023 Karl von Wittenbach, from his own retirement in Balian, considers returning to the Petra once more. Perhaps one last time, to congratulate the Archduchess and the new Queen.
Xarkly 17299 Share Posted October 30, 2023 "My kin bled for her to slay the Archduke, and they bled to save her from bandits," Villorik sneered within the Basilica. He bowed his head in prayer before the altar, but his lips did not move.
MrMojoMordor 2413 Share Posted October 31, 2023 Pelym-Vagil Rivers rubs his chin with his hook-hand in contemplation - he's enjoyed his time of relative peace under the reign of Queen Renilde, par from a few run-ins with the bandits and dealing with the Alg Tree, but her compliments to him more than made up for it. However her retiring in times when war seems to be brewing among the human realms worries the long time Riverguard greatly, doubt about the sudden move weighing heavy on his mind: 'Was right now truly the best time? Will the other nations not see this as a chance to bounce on Petra? Besides - it's not really her grand-daughter in power but Von Theonus family instead, who's to say they won't puppet the new Child-Queen like Aaun is?' "Ve Wyr I Kindvikzein - The War Of Children.. got a nice ring to it." The short man muses to himself, some poetry forming in his head already. In any case, he'll continue his watch over Petra - FOR NOW
