A TURNING OF THE TIDES

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...

Auriel Tennallar knew she was going to die.

She knew it when she killed her first fish, slitting her way through it's scales.

She knew it when she watched the voidal hollow descend upon the Celianorian Palace.

She knew it as she felt the familiar bite of the winter winds as she flung herself into the sea.

...

As her limp body rushed through the chilling wind, she exhaled.

A frost filled breath that rushed past her at the speed of light.

Light.

She remembered light, days of basking in the sun with the soothing rocking of the waves below her.

Days full of light and laughter, Her sisters hands in her hair, twisting and braiding and a heavy rope in her own as she pulled and tugged.

...

She remembered the crash of waves against their ship as they fought against the storm.

She remembered the chattering voices as they docked in Fi'andria.

She remembered the power.

Power.

In the palm of her hands, flames licked at her skin threatening to burn.

and yet, they didn't.

...

She never did stop pursuing such, forsaking her family for it.

The knowledge was in reach, just by her fingertips

when she realized.

When was the last time she had felt Arynn, braiding her hair?

When had she last heard Tara's laughter as she drunk and sung into the night?

When had she last spoken to Valentina, To Dazen?

Where was her Family? Her friends?

Was she... Alone?

...

 Loneliness.

Such a powerful feeling.

She threw herself into her studies, attempting to forget, to forge on and continue on her path.

And yet, she couldn't.

It got to her and before she knew it there was the ever so gentle touch of fingertips upon her nape, soothing her.

The woman made promises, Family, Friends, Power.

Everything she had ever wanted.

...

And then? She was gone.

Auriel Tennallar was no more than a distant, fleeting memory that drifted further from her grasp as she lived.

If you could even call this living.

...

The wind rushed past her, it's grasp soothing and comforting.

And then?

Nothing.

A series of letters quickly made their way across the continent.

To The Tennallars and Tinuviels

Spoiler

[This letter is worn and torn, as though written many years ago.]

To my family,

If this letter has found you as I so intended then... I have died. I don't know how it happened but I can only hope it was quick and painless and above all that none of you were there to witness it.

I only have one thing to ask of you all, remember me.

Remember me at my best and my worst,

The days spent wading up and down the coast looking for the finest of shells,

The nights spent in tears after the loss of our dear Dazen.

Remember me as I was, please.

I will miss you all every day no matter what shores I end up upon.

Look after yourselves, look after everyone.

And above all else, Don't get any more flesh eating curses.

I love you always and forever.

Your Lari'onn,

Your Lari'maronn,

Your Liir,

Auriel Tennallar.

To The Coven

[This letter is newer, stained with blood and frost.]

To my Sisters and Mother,

I don't quite know why I'm writing this letter for if all turns out well I shall never die.

But... If this letter has found you all then I have met my demise... I don't know how but it must of been by a formidable foe. Avenge me sisters, wreak havoc for me. Do not forget my sacrifice for you.

Yours,

Val.

Spoiler

If this isn't the most bittersweet thing ever, then I don't know what is.

Auriel was my first character on the server back in March 2023 when I first joined, I was picked up by the wonderful Laeonathan who offered me a place in his little family of sea-faring elves which I happily took. Through this I met the wonderful Cassie, Lilly and Saint who I will never forget, I've made wonderful friends through them and will never forget such.

And then, as my friends got busy in real life i found another group, the wonderful Diogen, Agytha and the other Frost witches. I bonded with them so well and had so so many wonderful experiences both in and out of roleplay and have made wonderful friends.

It was a decision long in the running to pk this character but it's time to move on, to something new.

Thank you to everyone that made this character who she was, for every experience and every encounter.

Thank you.

SPECIAL THANKS:

Hermaður read the note, gripping it with steel digits. He inhaled, exhaled frosted breath, and gently placed it back upon the mantle.

"Another dead."

The Knight of the Far-North turned, and gazed into the next room - at the bodies stacked high, piles and piles of the fallen, of the slain, of the hunted, of the murdered and the part-devoured.

How had it come to this?
