TO THE PEOPLE OF AEVOS,

 

MY NAME IS HERA. I am in search of students to take down the Shamanistic Path of the Farseer. With the fall of paladins, Aevos has entered an era of darkness and uncertainty. Though I have done my best to travel around the continent, in search of curses to cure and injuries to mend, I am severely understaffed. 

 

IF YOU WISH TO FOLLOW the path I have laid out, I request a bird be sent my way. Though I will not dictate what my students do once they have graduated from my teachings, they must abide by a few rules whilst under my guidance. You will find these rules below, along with a series of trials.

 

I HAVE FABRICATED THESE TRIALS in order to single out those of pure intentions, who possess a charitable heart and steadfast will. I will not bar anyone from attempting my trials. I care not for your past, or your appearance, or your people’s history- I care only for the individual.

I. TRIAL oF THE ELEMENTS

 

THE PATH OF A SHAMAN is not one of leisure or constant boons. It is a path of internal turmoil, metamorphosis, and the eternal struggle for harmony. 

 

THE TRIAL OF THE ELEMENTS firstly requires the devotee to spend time in nature, contemplating the elements and finding one that they resonate with. Upon determining their elemental affinity, the devotee will present their findings to their guide. 

 

IF THE GUIDE WITNESSES ADEQUATE understanding, the devotee shall be taken on a spirit walk, where they will face the second stage of this trial: Successfully making a pact with a lesser elemental spirit. Though it depends on the spirit, this will likely involve the creation of a shrine. 

 

ONCE THE DEVOTEE FEELS THEY are ready, they shall undergo the last portion of this trial: Weathering. In this event, they will display their ability to control their impulses, and see through the mental muddling of their elemental pact.

II. TRIAL oF CHARITY

 

THE PATH OF A FARSEER is not self serving, nor materialistically rewarding. It is a path of self sacrifice.

 

THE TRIAL OF CHARITY will last an entire year, though will be somewhat extended throughout the remainder of a devotee’s training. In this time, the devotee will depart from home on a pilgrimage of charity. 

 

THEY WILL OFFER THEIR SERVICES wherever and whenever they can, strictly free of charge. The devotee may not accept payment, under any circumstance, save for food and shelter. This applies to all sorts of services; Tailoring, blacksmithing, cooking, medicine, etcetera. 

 

ONCE THE YEAR HAS COMPLETED, the devotee shall submit a journal of their travels to their guide. Whilst a student, they shall be required to administer healing free of charge. Note: It is highly encouraged that they continue the path of charity once graduated, but this is solely up to the individual.

III. TRIAL oF PURITY

THE PATH OF A HEALER is one that requires purity, yes, but also understanding and empathy.

 

THE TRIAL OF PURITY is the last step before becoming a farseer. In the context of this trial, purity refers to the purity of intentions, as well as of the soul. There are several stages of this trial. 

 

FIRSTLY, the devotee will meditate over what they believe the standard of “purity” is to them. They will write a short essay, outlining for themselves a moral code that they wish to follow. Note: Things such as purity of blood, partnership, or preferences do not fall under purity here. I will not read an essay about how mixed races are impure and evil. 

 

SECONDLY, the devotee will embark on a journey alongside their guide to a hidden lagoon. Here, they will peer into their true selves, coming to terms with their own flaws and insecurities. 

 

LASTLY, student and teacher will once again ascend to the spirit realm, and journey down the Silver River, in order to identify and cleanse any impurities present upon the soul. Completing this journey shall signify a new DAWN in the devotee’s life. 

 

UPON THIS TRIAL’S COMPLETION, the student shall be eligible to be taught the magical ways of the Farseer.

THOUGH THESE TRIALS MAY SEEM extensive, it must be understood that there is no way to disconnect a shaman. I must be careful with whom I choose to teach, for the fear that this knowledge falls into unworthy hands. 

 

IF YOU ARE UNSURE that this is the path you wish to take, feel free to contact me in order to discuss with me more about what it would entail. Let it be known I will not force my students to go against their beliefs. However, I have a few strict rules that I will not budge on. 

 

1. NO PACTING WITH A SPIRIT OF LUST. 
2. Do not be a do-badder, also known as “darkspawn”. I will know.
3. Please do not call me Master, Sensei, Teacher, etc. I am honored, but Hera is just fine.
