THE CONFESSION OF DUNWEN

 

Therefore the Thain of the Weefolk makes confession before all the scattered tribes;

 

The Shiredom of Dunwen has done greatly wrong, in what it has done and failed to do. The simple and humble charism of childish innocence was denied by its own trusted leaders so that they may pursue instead politik and slander. The taking in of vassals, worse yet with no mind to what moral character these vassals have. The paving over of pastures and hills good for farming and burrowing, to instead place castles. The insulting and provocation of its neighbors then loud proclamation of its own meek standing, and otherwise attempts to manipulate the virtuous to protect them from consequence. The smearing against the dignity of persons of the Khanate by scrawlings in brazen libel. The failure to keep their lands clean of Ruin, and making friends with those enthralled to Ruin. The engagement in great political schemes and secretive meetings rather than trust in their own innocence. 

 

All in all; the Shiredom of Dunwen is hardly a shire any longer. Where one might expect to find rolling hills with gardens and hobbit-holes, one instead finds a coalition of leper-ridden castles with a small and dirtied shire at its center. 

 

TO RETURN TO THE SHIRE

 

The Shiredom of Dunwen is abolished, and this is its final decree; to abstain forevermore from the political. The Halflings shall surrender their former land to the Crusade for Ritual Cleansing and begin an immediate exit. They shall pursue at their interests to move to found a new shire elsewhere in abandonment of their previous false idol of sovereignty. This need not be in any land controlled by the Church or its princes, but it must not be under the leadership of Cyris Collingwood, Mangolia Collingwood, or Rosllyn O’Applefoot, nor otherwise go against this decree 'lest it invites the same troubles. They shall never take on vassals again, for sake of keeping themselves clean of the political and perverse. They shall never engage in treaties or other political gambits again. Their trust of defense shall not fall in such shrewd plots such as these, but rather in their liege lord, and the goodwill of the virtuous to come and defend the redeemed childish innocent.
