THE WHITE MAN

 

 

It was said that during the harvest season, the laughter of children and eerie screams could be heard throughout the Free Port of Chambery.

 

We spoke to the local priest, who confirmed this was indeed true; however, she remarked that the local ghost was merely a folklore tale she had grown up with. She began to share the story with us.

 

The ghost is known to visit those in need of companionship or a shoulder to cry on, and occasionally, the sick. She referred to him as the White Man, though he is known by different names and can change his appearance multiple times due to his nature.

 

As she continued to speak, she offered us some tea, and we suddenly heard the laughter of children, sending chills down our spines.

 

He was fond of children and urged us not to be afraid, explaining that the laughter we heard was simply his way to let us knows he is present. All she knows about the origins of the White Man is that he was an Adunian in life, persecuted for his race and his eyes, yet he continued to help others.

 

“But Mother, we know he loves to scare people… and that laughter is eerie.”

 

“I know, he likes to joke around… he was like that in life. I assure you, if you don’t provoke him, he won’t harm you.”

 

“And who provokes him, Mother?”

 

She turned back with a serious, yet unsettling look.

 

“Well, he will come as a Red Ghost and make your life worse than you can imagine. He won’t kill you… he will torment you.”

 

My friend, who was with us at the local church in Chambéry, laughed and teased the Ghost. The atmosphere grew deadly cold. A creepy figure stood where my friend scream in pain, he had been… what had happened to him? why the White Man was here?

 

My friend body was butchered, and the floor was stained with blood.

 

I can't forget the ghost's smiling face drenched in blood that day.
