INTRODUCTION

I have composed this thesis inspired by the works of my late great-grandfather, Caius Primus, High Pontiff of the Church of the Canon. My gratitude is held towards him and my mentor, Godfrey Bishop Casica.

The House of Barclay has had a storied history throughout the realms. Their contributions to the Holy Mother Church have been many, with inspiring figures such as the Venerable High Pontiff Tylos I, High Pontiff Caius Primus, and others who I’ll be going over in this thesis.

CAIUS PRIMUS

Caius Primus, born as Brandt Barclay and the eldest son to the Venerable Leon I, Duke of Minitz, led an honorable life. He was the Duke of Minitz and later the Grand Prince of Minitz while serving under King Charles I and later James I of the United Kingdom of Aaun.  He guided his subjects with piety and wisdom throughout his reign.

In the year of 1936, Brandt abdicated the Grand Principality to his son, Ferdinand I. Not very long after, Brandt took up the cloth. His long service to the Church of the Canon led to his rising as the High Pontiff. Throughout his reign as the High Pontiff, he hunted darkspawn, was committed to justice, and was a man of the books. On one occasion, Azdrazi had made their way into Haense, which led to the Pontiff raising his sword against them, alongside one of his Cardinals.

In the year of 1985, he marched as the High Pontiff to the siege of Hexicanum, slain at the hands of an undead. He has since been remembered as a beacon of piety, wisdom, and courage throughout his reign of the Canondom peoples.

VEN. HIGH PONTIFF TYLOS I

Born Alfred Barclay in the year 1753, to Osvald Anton Barclay. His family was well versed in the politics in the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, which further led to his running for Maer of New Reza. Alfred’s tenure was only short of three years, due to his lack of inspiration and drive to continue working as the Maer, which led to his resignation.

Alfred Barclay took inspiration from his grandfather, Anton Barclay, who was a Cardinal and Archbishop of Jorenus. He read the holy scrolls and countless prayer books. He became an apprentice under Bishop Benedict and was soon ordained. He spent his days working in the Church in New Reza and was later offered, and accepted, to be the chaplain of the Haense Royal Army, due to the outbreak of Ibleesian forces in the desert.

It was in the year 1804 that the High Pontiff Owyn III elevated Father Alfred to the Patriarch of Jorenus, where he stood as a Patriarch for the Kingdom of Haense and the Kingdom of Norland. Later, he became the Cardinal of St. Tylos, and thirteen years later, he was elevated to the role of High Pontiff, where he chose to bear the name Tylos I.

HIGH PONTIFF TYLOS III

Tylos III, born as Klaus Barclay and the second born son to Ser Cedric Barclay. During the reign of Johanna Barclay, the Duchess of Reinmar, she entrusted the Pontiff Tylos III to hold regency over the Duchy. During a war between Oren and Hanseti-Ruska, Tylos III held a neutral anti-war stance. He stripped the ‘Defender of Faith’ role from Karl III of Haense, who originally had it due to his father, Bl. Sigismund III, who had aided in beating the Empire of Oren’s schism. Tylos III was called for aid when a plague of sickness broke out in the Royal Captial of Vienne, which led to Tylos sending members of the cloth to the Metropolitanate of Providentia.

It was in the year 1886 that Tylos III held mass in the Basilica of Saint Heinrik, but unexpectedly died in the middle of his sermon. He was buried by his College of Cardinals.

SAINT JOHANN OF REINMAR

Johann Barclay, the eldest son to Erich I, Duke of Reinmar. St. Johann was the first Duke of Reinmar to be titled Prince of Sutica. Johann became a Duke at the age of three with his grandfather, Friedrich Barclay, as his regent due to Erich falling into a coma.

Johann was demoted to the Dual Count of Reinmar-Kretzen as a child; Though his dutiful spirit led to his promotion to the Duke of Reinmar by Sigismund III of Haense. He served as the Lord Marshal of Hanseti-Ruska for over two decades under King Sigismund III and led the Brotherhood of Saint Karl in the Sinners War, where they marched against Oren.

Johann successfully overcame two Orenian soldiers who had ambushed him. He managed to overpower the two soldiers, and when he was deemed victorious, the axe had been repaired beyond its broken state. After Johann’s death, a group of Barclay men were patrolling, but many were attacked by darkspawn. During their defeat, a bright light was seen from the skies, and the voice of Johann spoke to the Barclay soldiers, encouraging them to continue. Overall, the soldiers managed to defeat the darkspawn.

SAINT NICOLAS THE MARTYR

Nicolas Barclay, the eldest son of the High Pontiff Tylos I, was born in the year 1778 in New Reza on Arcas. He dedicated himself to the Holy Mother Church, advancing as a Holy Knight of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn and an Equester-Imperator of the Order of Exalted Owyn. He was also a secretary to High Pontiff Owyn III.

St. Nicolas was beatified for his sacrifice in the Red Diet of Karosgrad, where he defended multiple clergymen against the Imperial State Army; he was killed due to his support of Owyn III. High Pontiff Tylos II later canonized him.

CONCLUSION

In summary, those of the House of Barclay have shown consistently that they are steadfast in their beliefs. From leaders to inspirational figures, ones who have left a great impact on those who knew, and those who choose to remember and read about them. The importance of reading about House Barclay’s religious influence stems from a moral beacon, which guides people with the teachings of Canondom. This House has helped shape the Canonist people and their relationship with divine faith.

With this thesis' completion, may the cooperation of House Barclay and the Holy Mother Church be fruitful and virtuous under GOD's grace.

Wilhelmina carefully stored a copy of the wise Acolyte Josefina's thesis for safekeeping, intending to share this important piece of history with her children one day.

Josefina's mother Adalfriede was surely smiling upon her daughter from the Seven Skies. Or, well... not frowning.

"I've always hated the practice of forced theses instead of simple exams, or that of a choice being given,"

Godfrey admitted in private to his other Acolyte and friend Witmar before showing him Josefina's thesis.

"But hers very much seems quite alright. She's come a long way in a very short period of time."

Witmar peeks at the thesis, taking it into his hands to read it, occasionally responding to Godfrey's comments.

"Well, ja," he says. "I wholeheartedly agree, Your Grace. You can see the progress, and praised be Gott for that."
