To the Thin-Blooded

Penned by Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp, Countess of Enswerp

17th of Malin’s Welcome, 2020

LO UNTO THE PEOPLE OF ALBA & THE HEARTLANDS,

Let it be known that on this day, the seventeenth of Malian’s Welcome, in the Year of Our Lord two-thousand and twenty, Atticus Keen, the Princep of Ivoria, did stand before the Countess of Enswerp, along with her sister, Arya, and her daughter, Sunnhild, to make petition. The Ivorians requested the Countess’ blessing for the betrothal of Lord Henriek Keen, Heir to Ivoria, to Sunnhild.

Amidst the discourse, there did arise hostility when Arya cast forth insults upon her own sister, The Countess, and the Dukes of Alba, leaving the Countess no choice but to decline the match.

Given Sunnhild’s intent to proceeding with marrying the Lord Henreik Keen, regardless of the Countess’ lack of approval, it is in accordance with the Alban Codex and the honour of the Ducal Household, His Excellency, George Charles Aldersberg, Chancellor of Alba, who was present at the meeting, hath thus decreed:

"By the Will of the Ducal Coronet, we do approve of the disownment of Sunnhild and Arya of Cliffhaven given that any family member who enters into matrimony without the consent of their House’s head can face disinheritance."

By this proclamation, Sunnhild Agnise and Arya Elizabeth do forsake the esteemed name of Alstion-Enswerp, relinquish all claims to titles therein, and forfeit the right to style themselves as Ladies of Enswerp. In recognition of their fallen station, they shall henceforth be known as Sunnhild of Cliffhaven and Arya of Cliffhaven—the bastard name of the House of Alstion-Enswerp.

Furthermore, let it be known that Arya Elizabeth of Cliffhaven, for her grave offences against the Ducal Coronet and the Countess of Enswerp, is hereby banned from the lands of Alba, and shall remain so until the hour of her death.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE, Lorelei Mairi Alstion-Enswerp,

Countess of Enswerp. Lady Chamberlain of Morvelyn, Warden of the Holy Army, Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess of Alba

HER LADYSHIP,  Lorelei Amelya Alstion-Enswerp,

Heir of Enswerp

HER LADYSHIP,  Lucrezia Agnise Alstion-Enswerp

“An accurate retelling of the events, as they happened in real time. Lady Lorelei Mairi Enswerp and her daughter duo represent the poise, articulation, and story telling prowess essential to novel pieces of our times!” - Atticus Keen, Author of the New Ivori Times Bestseller Lorelei the Adulteress, 2003

After some hours in her smithy, creating a weapon for herself, Ophelia would retire to the halls of Clementhurst, unaware of the days happening. A servant would pass her the missive and she read it immediately, scanning through the words, increasingly quickly as she did so.

Swiftly would colour escape her visage, going paler than she already was as she saw that not one but two of her sisters were now no longer considered her family by law. "Keens?" she questioned to nobody in particular as she read the names "My sisters would treat with those perfidious liars?". A red anger swept over her as she learnt that the people who had so targeted her Mother were now turning her family against one another, such would not go unnoticed.

The warrior lofted the missive into her hands. A small brow rose as she read it over.

"When truth becomes insults, you play the fool of ego." She grunted. "Neither Edward nor Lorelei are my father; who are they to disown and deny my birth?" Then, a chuckle. "These same people who are loud enough for I to hear that they wish to rip my tongue out; who proclaim themselves Holier than thou', and harm Ivoria for actions not of our own that we have been exonerated for, who do the same and shall not fess to their crimes."

The missive was left to rot in a pile of paperwork as the Margravine stood. To the church, to light her candles and pray. Perhaps a priest would listen to the woes and repentance of an equally stubborn fool.

“Did they forget that I forfeited the name myself? Or am I going deaf again?” Sunnhild muttered, bunching up her skirts in one hand. The woman sighed. “Not like I was much of an Alstion to begin with. I haven’t lived with them all since I was seven.”

Lucrezia Agnise stood in her quarters longingly, looking out the window. "Perhaps it was for the best. If Sunnhild felt this was never her home, perhaps it is best that she left. Yes, it was within God's plan for her to go." She paused for a moment, perhaps having contradictory thoughts on the matter. "At least I pray that is the plan he made for her, and she is not being misled."

Still appearing concerned despite her sister's reassurance before her final departure from the lands of Enswerp, Lucrezia clasped her hands together as she lowered onto the floor in her quarters and rested on her knees, and began to pray. "GOD I beg that you guide Sunnhild on the path to which she belongs, I pray her decisions do not allow harm to present itself to her.. Please, I beg you to protect my little sister as you have done me.."
