Explanation

The death of Warrick Wick has been incredibly poor faith with the character attempting to kill themselves in front of Asahiko only to be murdered by Izthelith (Venomous_pup) instead. Warrick went to the same spook lair he had snitched on a day prior, Asahiko lashes out and throws him on the ground as a conversation begins. About halfway through, Warrick decides to take out a knife and threaten to kill himself. While all this is occuring it’s clear through emote quality, such as ignoring malflame burn pain, overall tone, that Star themself is not doing well OOCly. The intent is clear to have Warrick PK’d one way or another. This child has proven himself to be a danger to the village’s safety, and is treated as a spy when Izthelith walks over and kills him herself, thus ending the scene.

The PK post contained sentimental post-mortem letters to other characters. This letter was written by a supposed eight year old. These letters contain information which explicitly confirms the last place that Warrick was intending to go to as Lichtenwald (“The Village”), and acknowledge their likely untimely death. Furthermore, they relay the plans the character heard between Willow (rose6614), Asahiko (kuebiko_), and Reinhard (frostdrop1). The letters also include an extra narrative framing of the death to pose the idea that the Lichtenwald inhabitants (specifically “Coco” which is a nickname for Asahiko) would be the cause of their death, yet the roleplay involved their character entering the location, threatening suicide and forcing an engagement. The last letter is also used to deliver a letter to the changed Willow to purposefully frame Asahiko for the death despite it being a pre-planned suicide. This feels like a post-mortem "gotcha!" for a death Warrick quite literally asked for. Starwhale has since quit the server.

Warrick died on the 17th, whereas the PK post was made earlier today, the 21st. All of the sentimental letters paint Lichtenwald and especially Asahiko as the culprit behind his death through it appears the information has been written with the intent to metagame and re-frame the narrative retrospectively or, even, potentially with intent due to the intended suicide.

These letters have already been used as narrative excuses by other players (see “we are not done yet”).

It makes mention of Willow Wick's death, which was not a PK, without Rose's explicit permission to do so. This is against forum rules.

Evidence of uncooperative conduct.

Evidence

Marthia has agreed to leave the decision of the letters up to mods.

Desired Result of Report

Letters in the PK post specifying or alluding to the nature of his death & Willow’s should be treated as invalid and resulting narrative excuses to be nullified, too. This would leave only Minty’s letter as legitimate.

The only thing I'm going to comment on is that I don't have any qualms with the attempt to get revenge, but how it was carried out. In a case like this, I think the letters should have been sent before he came to the village with the use of the Aviary Plugin, given the information they contained, as it does come across as incredibly bad-faith to mass send letters to various people in such a manner that has no counter after the fact.

I will admit to the fact the letters themselves did not have the same level of revision and attention that was given to the rest of the post and were more early workings of what I wanted to be expressed I understand and even agree with the concerns regarding the letters and have made changes necessary to exclude any mentions of where the character had gone to those who would not already be aware if there is anything else the parties involved would like changed they may express them to me directly if they do wish to do so

@kuebiko @Venomous_Pup @Star Whale

This is a pretty straightforward one.

Leaving post-mortem letters in your character's PK post is very common; while they're nearly always written after the character has narratively died, they're a useful tool for saying goodbyes to other characters you didn't have a chance to, tying a bow on narratives, etc. These are usually allowed, even though the character is dead, because they're normally harmless.

There's an obvious difference between these two examples, though:

  • "My dearest brother, it aches my heart that we would not get to spar in the courtyard one final time. Know that I shall always treasure those memories from my youth, and I await you in the next world."
  • "My dearest brother, if you're reading this letter, I went to Norland to visit Bjorn and he killed me."

One of these is, like I mentioned above, tying up a character narrative, while the other is conveying information about your character's death after they're already dead. This is essentially metagaming.

I took a look at the PK post and most of the letters can be summarised along the lines of, "Dear X, I'm going to find Willow at Y and if I don't come back I'm dead". This boils down to characters being told (1) where you were going when you died, and (2) who you were going to visit. While you don't precisely say "I'm going to Lichtenwald", you more-or-less say where you died and who probably killed you (edit: I understand these letters actually did explicitly list places/names before but were edited to be vaguer). Therefore, this is metagaming.

I don't think anyone needs to be punished here, though - PK situations can be stressful sometimes and there's an easy fix to be made here in that the letters contained the PK posts should be considered voided. Therefore, the outcome of the report is as follows:

  • The letters to Linguini, ArcticPingu, Marthia, Security, Latte, and Rose6614 are now void. Any subsequent RP based on these letters is void. If anyone complexities arise from the voiding (e.g., long RP sessions), please contact me and I'll consider them.
  • I have removed the voided letters from the PK post. @Star Whale, if you want to go back and add letters that don't cross into metagaming (e.g., goodbyes to these characters), you're free to do so.
  • @Star Whale I'm going to ask you to please contact these players whose characters received these letters (those mentioned above), and tell them that the letters are voided and no longer RP knowledge.
  • The rest of the PK post is fine and can stay as-is.
  • @Linguini@latte Based on the fact the 'We Aren't Done Yet' post has had its title and contents removed, I assume you two are aware of the situation and have seemingly already voided it, to an extent, off your own bat. This is the correct move; any revenge RP has to be driven by reasonable belief, meaning not the now-voided letters.

I don't really believe much in giving 'infraction points' for player misbehaviour and I think this is moreso just a mistake born from stress/anxiety/frustration. What I do believe in is getting a measure of whether a player should know better and has been told better. I'm not aware of any wrongdoing on @Star Whale's part in the past or with similar problems, so I'm satisfied that you get the idea that you can't write a letter detailing the events of your death after you've already died. Obviously, if there's a future occassion where this sort of stuff happens again, it'll be looked at with much less leniency.

While I think this report is wrapped up, I'll leave this thread unlocked/open for 24 hours if any of the involved parties want to respond with questions, queries, etc.

@XarklyI am in agreement with what you stated, personally don't believe it needs to go any further as it I don think it was meant to be malicious, and what you've put as the outcome is great. Thanks for your time.

The resolution fits the situation well, thank you for reviewing this so quickly before the situation got any more complicated.
