VALEUR ÉTERNELLE

A Farewell, A Legacy

To the memory of Her Ladyship Valérie Auclair , Matriarch of the House Auclair

✦ • ────────────── • ✦ • ────────────── • ✦

"Death is not an end, but the bridge to the Seventh Sky. Those who lived with honor, do not fear the call and welcome their fate with a serene face.”

GRANDMA, WHY?

You vanished.

Without a sound. Without farewell.

Like a shadow melting at dawn.

As if the earth itself decided to swallow you without a trace.

There is no body. There is no coffin.

There is no stone to touch with trembling hands. Just an emptiness so fierce it rips your breath away.

Just the fear-I don't want to say out loud-that it was you,

who chose to leave.

That the strongest woman I have ever known, the one who faced the fire and the abyss with the same calm,

decided one day,

that it was too much. Too much pain. Too much loneliness.

Too much truth to keep inside, and no one to tell it to.

What about me?

I wasn't there.

I did not understand.

I believed that your silence was peace, not surrender.

That your distance was wisdom, not farewell.

And now I am left with only questions.

Were you afraid?

Did you cry?

Did you think of me as you slipped away?

I wanted to scream, to pull you back, to cling to you with all my strength.

But I couldn't.

No one could. And now-where do I cry, Grandma?

Where do I talk to you?

Where do I leave my flowers if there is not even a grave?

Every night I light a candle. Every night I call out to you.

I look for you in the wind, in the fire, in dreams where you look at me but say nothing. But you do not answer. And I consume myself.

I would have liked to hold your hand, just one last time.

To tell you that you were not alone.

That even if the world was heavy, I was there.

That all you had to do was ask.

That you didn't have to be strong until the end. Let me cry for you,

Not just because you are gone, but because maybe you didn't want to stay.

And this, Grandma…this is the greatest pain I have ever known.

It is not a farewell.

It is an open wound, pulsing to the rhythm of your name.

It is a cry that no one hears.

It is love that did not have time to save. And if you really left by choice, know that I don't judge you.

But God, how I miss you.

Always.

Guillaume would recieve word of his beloved aunt's passing. She had been there for him in all his times of trouble and gave him comfort and wisdom. He poured himself a glass of wine, but could not stomach to drink it out of grief. He looked on out into the fields where he promised to plant vinyards for her, and sighed.

Simon would lower his head upon hearing of Valérie’s passing, a deep sorrow setting over him.

He thought of Viola, of the quiet strength she carried, much like her mother.

“Wherever you are, I hope it’s gentle. Good bye, Valérie.”

He’d sit alone for a while.

Agrippa would sit in his tent, watching over Sir Silias Hart's elks & taking care of his own.
The young man's face was wrinkled & crucnhed like a grapes of their vinyard that had left in the sun for too long.
At least he got to hug his Grandmother..

... sure Hart wouldn't notice an Elk missing right? He really needs to unwind by eating something.

A passing, very great PUMPKIN KING spied the message. As he tilted his carved pumpkin to sit right on his head, the sheer whimsy with which he otherwise held himself devolved into a simple, defalted: "...oh." He was left to ruminate on this fact. On that woman, that he knew as a boy. He could be glad, at least, that there was closure.

Sir Silas's expression fell upon receiving the news, the knight lowering his head. "......"
He sighs deeply.
"be at peace... We will miss your presence in Petra.."
