May all territories, peerage, and citizenry of The Belethian Federation receive and pay heed to the following report of Simon Peter in representation of the Crown.

Announcement of Passing:

His Grace, Ser Aedric Grisblood

The following information is given as exposition to those curious about the events of this last Saint’s Day in the year 268 S.A., resulting in the death of a Noble Peer of the Realm. With the events being fresh in mind, the context and chronology have been put to writing for the sake of transparency & future reference.

The many grievances between Liege-Lord and Vassal

The following subjects of contention between the Duke of Perduran and the Lord-Paramount of Beleth, those causing the initiation of the gathering in Perduran, are listed here. These are given in summary, and the list is reduced from every point of concern to the most relevant & significant:

  • Failure to acknowledge the sovereignty and Liege-Lordship of the Belethian Lord-Paramount over the Duchy of Perduran, a title which was given by this same Lord-Paramount after an oath of fealty.
  • The contention of Diarchal station, the Duke requesting to be raised to the now-abolished position of ‘Diarch of the West’. The notion having been discussed, but never approved nor codified.
  • The personal and repeated refusal, on the Duke’s own behalf, to lead or send as levies, militiamen for the purpose of bolstering Belethian military operations.
  • Distrust of the Royal House of Rovare due to the frequent negotiations with foreign states without the inclusion of the Duke.
  • Multiple instances of scorning to appear in Royal Court, having been first requested, then summoned, to the same result… of absence.

The Heated Council of Perduran.

In addressment of these grievances held by the Ducal and Royal prerogatives, a council was held between His Majesty, Peter I, and His Grace, Ser Aedric Grisblood. Such was initiated by the final summons of the Duke of Perduran to the Gwendolyn court of Southspire. This was met in turn by a response to meet him in his own Ducal Holding, setting a limit of twenty [20]  Saints’ minutes to Our Royal arrival, lest he dismiss himself from the conversation entirely.

“Let us keep this short, for I can only be out of bed so long.”

Within the meeting, hardly half of these grievances were addressed before it was discovered that Ser Aedric held contempt personally for the Lord-Paramount, and to the Belethian Federation, out of which the territory of his Duchy was carved. Going so far as to claim that the City and its People belonged to him, not in fief, but by virtue of sovereignty. Believing himself to be equal to Peter I, Duke Grisblood refused each of the resolutions to the issue of co-sovereignty that were presented to him.

“Time and time again I have given ya' the chance to prove that ya' are a trustworthy and bona leader, all of them in vein.”

Finally, in rebuke of the Duke’s pomp and presumptions, the Prince of Huntshill added onto a drafted document (attached to this missive) a set of enactments and presented it to the Duke for his signature. It was at this time that Lord Grisblood made every accusation which may be expected of Imperial detractors to most all Belethian endeavors; thirst for power, the intent to mass evict the citizenry of the Ducal capital, the intention to kill His Grace upon his giving of signature, among others. So far went he, that he deigned to speak as if he was held captive in a prison, rather than a council discussion room; to which the Lord-Paramount was summoned and, unlike the Duke, arrived at the place of summons.

“Aedric Just sign it, it's net worth your life.”

“Let them release my nephew. Once he is outside, I shall sign.”

“I'm net signing.”

It was at the height of these accusations that guards outside the door of this meeting began to cause commotion despite the Lord-Paramount’s repeated commands prior to the conversation. It is not known whose guards initiated the conflict, but some aspect of it preceded Duke Aedric’s agreeing to the signature of the edict, on the condition that his nephew be escorted out of the building. So soon as this was done by the Grand Knight of Beleth, he informed those in the council that he would not be signing the document, requesting instead that he be executed rather than relinquish power over the City and accept a Count’s title as Patriarch of House Grisblood.

“I will bow to a ruler, nen problem. Just nen tyrant. And to this day I have gotten net a single reason to believe ya' are anything but that.”

Execution of the Duke of Perduran

The following is a series of quotes and witness statements regarding the Duke’s Execution. Let it be known that Royal rebuke is laid upon those who wished for this man to be killed in a high room of his own palace, rather than face justice after due exposure to the public and open declaration of his faults.

“Let it be known I am getting executed for being unwilling in forcing the Peduran people to leave their home for Southspire.”

Dragged by the arms, the Duke met his fate in dignified stoicism. He did not plead, nor turn to accepting the terms he previously rejected, nor did he attempt to escape. The Lord-Paramount, in the sight of all, announced to the realm what courses of action and words had preceded this unpleasant spilling of blood.

“Thus, a new governor of Perduran will be elected by your people, with Prince Simon serving as the marshal.”

All too late, and undignified, A knight of a House not to be tarnished with the misdemeanor of its offspring, impeded the final stroke of the sword, prolonging the displeasure of that Duke of Grisblood who was well accustomed to the trappings of sovereignty. This wayward knight so much as stood opposite to a sword raised by Peter I, for which he is rebuked by His Highness, The Prince of Huntshill. With this knight being finally removed, the deed was continued and brought to completion.

“LIGHT EVERLASTING; bear witness, to your faithful gathered beneath your grace. For, on this day, we must regrettably pass a soul into your light. May you honor this man, as the world have not, and free him from the fate the world has rendered”

The Holy Knight and by the Grace of God, Lord-Paramount of the Belethian Federation, delivered, for the safety of all our souls, the last rites of this condemned man. Who was afterwards, and to the detriment of that High House, sent for judgment by God. For his life in this world... was decided, and done.

“GOD and his 4 Exalted, sheperd the ascension of this man's soul into the skies. Let the stroke of the sword end all mortal transgressions and punishment. Let him rise to the skies no weight upon his soul, his family safe and cared for. Let him rest easy in LIGHT EVERLASTING”

Notice: To the House of Grisblood and Greye

Whilst the height and pinnacle of Royal disfavor has been provoked and brought to a solemn result, the charge of treason and oath-breaking does not extend to any besides him who lays dead. It was he only, who was the instigator of this matter, and the denier of Belethian Authority over the Duchy of Perduran - now made Barony by his indignities. If it is wished, this title may be once again invested onto the Grisblood Household in exchange for a second declaration of fealty. Any heirs and dependents of House Grisblood may make this request known upon the next gathering of the Court in the Palace of Gwendolyn.

In the case that none step forth on behalf of House Grisblood, the title shall be invested onto the Ducal House of Greye immediately upon the denunciation of this undermining of Belethian Sovereignty. Not by any means shall the Duke’s name be spoken in infamy or scorn, and a rebuke of his person is not now, nor shall be in future, expected of his Noble Brothers.

A Letter to the Realm - penned by Simon Peter

In these days of war and meditations between states, we are quick to forget the absolute necessity of unity, in contrast to the warlike animosity that must be held against our enemies across hostile borders. Far from forgetting the oath and duty of a noble Duke, this condemned man scorned the upholding of these. Such are attitudes which Royal dignity can not reward, nor tolerate, nor afford, when the sovereignty of all remaining free realms is under the greatest threat yet faced by living memory.

Nevertheless, we have lost today, a Brother and a partner in the leadership of the Belethian Federation. This is cause for mourning, but not chaotic distress, lest we add to the list of Imperial justifications for their unholy desire for total domination.

Having been present for the events of the last Saint’s Day and hearing of what was transpiring within Anatis, Ser Aviel was relieved that the Royal Household has made its statement. Perhaps this will cool the rising tension within the city. . .

Otherwise, the Seawolf had his own plans going on in the background for those rebellious against the Belethian Throne.

“Ave, Belethia.” Spoke the Grand Knight of Beleth and Grand Companion of the Star.

Kyhira stood next to Simon as he drafted and sent out the missive. A slow nod as she understood most of it this time, having been there herself. "Peace was offered. A good resolution to bring us together. Yet when the time came, it was denied. What a shame." She clicked her tongue. "The people will have a better time with someone not so corrupt in their own ego this time around."

Aurelian made a quick stop to the bank to check her coffers. She prayed it was enough to buy her even an ounce of healing, for she felt Peter's blade from across the realm.

Yelizaveta, a mother figure to the slain, made no effort to review the parchment given. Instead, she continued to cast it to the flames lit within her home. "I pray his head finds way atop a pike, forced to witness as his city burns."

The once-Duchess now-Baroness, Cesia Grisblood-Maravilla, would obtain the missive from a servant who looked to be out of breath after she donned her mourning clothes.

Cesia would read the missive before a soft sigh escaped her lips as she pinched the bridge of her nose “I will tend to this as soon as possible, I tire from being left out of matters of MY city…” She spoke herself before she began to pen a missive to the Lord-Paramount and Crown Prince of Beleth.

”I will not fail my children…”

Alexandria is tearing her hair out right now! If she gets any more stressed, she's going to have a heart attack!

A boy is left without his father. The father he remembered laughing with in the past. Mourning? They weren't mourning. It was his mother who was mourning. It was his family who was mourning while they made a mockery of his death.
