The Application Team

Recommended Posts

I've got a rule, all gm's and application team, villain app team, etc. Should all vote on a daily basis, it's very easy and helps our community.

I would like to be on the team but I don't think shiftnative likes me anyway.

Voting shouldn't be a rule. It makes it feel forced and provoked. You vote out of free will whist knowing it benefits the server.

And if you would want to be accepted, you should at the least make an app.

Agreed but just vote anyway, 100 minas every day is a good way to earn money, it's my entire income now.

More team members will be added soon.

MINECON IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER !

Yeah, I can't wait! I won't be able to go, but I hope everyone that goes has a great time, I'm sure it will be fun.

And seeming the list is about to be updated, you might as well (as I have stated before) remove Talfagoron from the list and take away "application team" from his group listing. Just so it doesn't lead to confusion in the future.

1. Biography: This may be the most important part of an application. A good biography proves what the player is capable of when it comes to their role play, and if their character would make a good addition to the server. Many times Availer has said that playing on this server is a privilege not a right. If a player wants to become a part of the lord of the craft community he or she must prove that they can create a character.

The biography is also very important because it tests if a player has read the lore or not. If in their biography they say their dwarfs character lived a normal life in the trees with his fellow dwarfs, they obviously did not read the lore. The biography makes sure the player has created an appropriate character that follows the server rules and the lore.

2. Favorite and Least Favorite Rule: This may seem like a very small and insignificant part of the application. But it forces players to read the server rules. Reading the rules is the most important task a player must complete before applying to join the server. Players could lie and say that they read the rules, but they must state their favorite and least favorite rule forcing them to read the rules.

3. Effort and Format: It is obvious to tell if a player has put effort into their application. First if they only wrote one word or one sentence answers then they have not put much effort into their application. If they have terrible grammar, punctuation, or a lot of what they say does not make any sense , they should be denied.

Then the format of an application is a key part of an application. If it is just a bunch of words awkwardly put together then it gives a bad impression. If an application is very neat it gives a good impression to the reader.

4. Lore: A good application should follow and prove that the player has read and understood the lore. The lore should be used a lot during an application, the biography, the characters skills and a few other places. It is important that the player understand the lore if they create a dwarf character then they should be aware of the capital city, how dwarfs act, and a bit about their history.

5. Powergaming/ Realistic Character: When a player creates their character it must be possible with the ways of minecraft. Making your character a position or skills that are not possible to obtain or they must earn in game and can not ask for in their application.

((Did not got to finish or edit since I have to go to bed. I will be adding more tomorrow.))

Wait so Native will private messages us if we are accepted? So how long would that normally take? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm now to get inside of the mind of Native.....

Haha, I believe Native's beard provides automatic protection against people who may want to enter Native's mind. It is an neccesary protection to be sure. The things people would find out...

But yes, he will PM us but I THINK he is waiting until after MineCon to accept anyone else into the team as there will be a large influx of new players then.

(Just a quick question not relating to anything to do with this topic, would using the word large before influx be considered incorrect?)

-snip-

I just googled it, a lot of people say "Large influx", so even if you're wrong, it would still just be a common mistake.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

Biography: Every character needs to have a good application not just the standard "My family was killed by Orcs." I browse the forums everyday looking at the apps seeing which apps are well thought out and deserve to join us inside of the game. To every good application there are about 100 bad applications.

Lore: The lore is one of the biggest parts of the game. There are roughly 40+ apps posted daily that ignore the lore. Sadly a lot of players ignore the lore and make characters based off of anime/video games and things like that.

Effort: What I enjoy the most about almost all of the applications is the effort put into them. Now I mostly ignore the apps that it took someone obviously 10 minutes to make and post. I've seen some really great applications that should be approved and welcomed into the server. Reading the applications and seeing all the effort put into them is amazing and should be encouraged.

Grammar: Most players in the server sadly don't have a decent enough grasp on the usage of grammar. Now I can understand a 10 year old kid getting away with the occasional "lol" or the "wtf" But I've seen 18+ year old players using that in the game and that honestly shouldn't stand unless its in OOC chat.

Realistic/power-gaming: There are loads upon loads of people that power-game. Sadly they usually are psychic or have some sort of issue with them that allows them to get away with whatever they need or want at the moment in time.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1) Effort - Firstly, a person may get their biography mixed up, or mis-spell some words and those are accidents. I believe the number one most important thing is the amount of effort an applicant puts in to their application. If it is filled with one-word answers and vague phrases then I do not believe they would fit in, but I think if other mistakes are made, but the applicant shows a lot of time and energy went into their application then I would deny them nicely, and help them to make their application up to scratch via advice in PMs.

2) Biography - I believe that for a person to succeed in a roleplay server, their biography must be realistic, well-thought-out and fitting with the lore. I would feel responsible for everyone I let in to the server, and if they went around proclaiming themselves to be an undead furry who lives in a radioactive nuclear bunker in the sea then the disruption to the RP would be my fault. For that reason, I think Bios are the second most important. Characters with flaws and weaknesses show that a person is being realistic, but a sword-fighting, educated monk who mines, fishes and farms for a living in addition to his duties of being an invincible monk of the secret legion of the furious death squad of the moon vipers is just annoying.

3) Lore - a firm understanding of the lore is of great importance, and should be displayed in the application. Someone who understands the lore will be a more harmonious companion on this fine server than one who is not.

4) Grammar - The person must display an able grasp of the English tongue, dependant on what their character is capable of. For example, if someone wants to roleplay an orc peasant, I would be less strict on grammar than for someone who wanted to be a well-educated son of an exiled noble. We dnt wnt pplz spking lyk dis on da srvr lawl rofl, but that the same time we do not want to dissmiss people just because they are young, have difficulty writing much or had a less able education than the rest of us.

5) Individuality - Anyone can copy and paste another person's answers, of just expected answers, and then tweak bits. A true good applicant will show that they are unique, and this will be reflected in their answers to questions and general character details.

On the subject of uniqueness and expectations - here is a bizarre twist! This is what I think are the most 5 important things in an Application Team Member!

1. Politeness - The application team are the first people applicants meet on the server. Sometimes in application I see the denials are sometimes unnecessarily rude and spiteful. Luckily, when Gaius accepted me I had none of this because he was very polite to me. Still, if someone was nasty to me I wouldn't have come back!

2. Patience - It is not easy helping a person through their 8th application! However, as an application team member it is their duty to make sure the applicants know what they are doing and to help them improve their applications

3. A good example - Application Team Members should set a good example ingame. Good RP, with positive, polite and helpful behavior while in OOC (they may play evil characters, so IC is not feasible). Players who regularly break rules or set bad examples should not be accepted. Newcomers look to the first few people they meet to guide their moral compass. Let's not skew that too badly.

4. Knowledgeable - An Application Team Member should know the rules and expectations of the server, and apply them to their own gameplay, and the gameplay for applicants. They should be able to answer questions with relative accuracy.

5. Activity - An Application Team Member should be reading the applications and accepting/denying at least once a week. Perhaps a goal of 10 per week minimum?

Other virtues such as fairness and dedication to the server should be taken into account too :)
