From the Offices of the County of Ildon

Penned on the 11th of the Amber Cold, 277 SA

It is with much sorrow that the County of Ildon announces the official passing of MAEVE GREYE-O’ROURKE, the third-eldest child of EÍNÍN O’ROURKE and AURUS GREYE. After contracting a terminal illness, MAEVE had spent her last months wanderlust, exploring the continent of Azuras that she held so dear.

MAEVE, in her final hours, returned to Ildon, to then journey into the Skies.

GOD embraces her, and we take comfort in the idea that she is now eternally at peace.

A funeral shall be planned and held in the near future.

GOD be with you.

Signed,

The Offices of the County of Ildon

Spoiler

Amidst Einin's seafaring, did she catch the missive drift her way by courier. A death she had already assumed to be true- yet remorse, and regret, still wretched her heart. Two children yet remained, out of her seven.

Forever would Einin mourn the moments she wasted by her own selfishness, being at sea, rather than being by her daughter's bedside. Her hands fidgeted upon the ship's wheel. Perhaps she should go home. Perhaps.

Had Maeve called for her? Had Maeve, in her final moments, cry for her mother, and she hadnt been there? Perhaps.

Was it the salted breeze of the ocean that urged the tears from Einin's eyes, making her weep,- or the crumpled letter in her grasps? Perhaps both. Perhaps one.

Perhaps she should turn around.

Perhaps this was one, giant mistake.

...And perhaps, she was a failure, as a mother- and her presence would cause only harm.

"...So... selfish." Einin hoarsed, hands falling from the wheel, knees striking the paneled floor. Her sobs and anguished wails, drowned by the sounds of crashing waves.

"A great loss to the County of Ildon" Burin sat in his bed above his Meadery. A small cramped room with a dimly lit candle. He headed downstairs behind his bar and pulled out a good but not great bottle of whiskey and poured one for himself. "Rest in peace O'Rourke yer loss shall be felt in the hearts of Ildon."

Burin knocked one back. "T' the Green and the Gold" he said with lil confidence and a tinge of melancholy.

Neasa O'Rourke held onto the missive with bleary eyes and an even deeper frown. Breaths passed through her in short bursts, air she couldn't seem to catch in her lungs. She had just watched her mother return with twigs in her hair, smile on her face. The little hedgeknight and priestly aspirant smiled to her as she went into the keep, her mother kissed her head like she knew.

Now, she lay on her bunk in the monastery, her sobs gently vibrating the walls. And only certain priests and deacons knew her sorrow as it crept through the stones like a winter wind.

The news was enough to entirely halt Aurus in his labors. A deep frown creased his features. This was not like his brother's death - he did not have the same comforts this time. Instead, he was brought back to the death of his youngest daughter, Connie. The absence of Imchad and Ailis. This was an tragedy in a string of many.

It was a different kind of loss, and not one that you came back lightly from. The stoic Greye vanished into the halls of his keep, where he would not be seen for several days. There he would remain, alone and without his wife with whom to share the loss, mourning another child lost.

"Oh. . "
As Edgar read between the lines he came to realize whom this person was, a relative of his wife, her sister.  This in turn brought him a bitter sorrow, one that he hadn't felt for a long while. When was it, the last time that he had talked to the greye's? Perhaps he was so immerse in his duties that he forgot about family.  Due to this he'd finally take a break from his endless nights of hunting to spend time with his family and pray for the dead. Letters were to be sent as well.

Neasa stumbled into Aurelian's shop whilst mid-conversation with a business partner. Already were her cheeks tear stained, and quickly was that business partner dismissed. Aurelian's little cousin collapsed into her arms, and once Aurelian was able to coax the words out of her, she allowed Neasa her sobs. She held tightly to that girl, internalized a mothering role, especially for all the little cousins of hers that were girls. There were so few women in her family, no clear matriarch to come to when in need.

Aurelian thought of her own mother as Neasa spoke of hers, how she wished she had more time, how she just wanted to make her mother proud. It was an echo Aurelian knew well enough. A murmured exchange between the cousins took place, those tears were wiped away, but still welcomed. Greyes grieve as one.
