♫The Great Journey♫

-= THE DISORDER OF SHUNYATA =-

I N I M I C U S  E S T  I G N O R A N T I A

Terms

Shunyata - The name of culture as a whole.

Shunyatan - An individual who subscribes to the Disorder of Shunyata.

Noumena - An intangible greatness which every Wizard reaches for.

The Layman- A broad term to describe those who are not inclined towards the arcane.

There are only two beings which the Wizard should place above themselves, and align themselves with, for the Wizard’s very path shall bring them to Ultimate Greatness (NOUMENA), and shall strive to be constantly self-improving, using their fellow Wizard as but a mirror in which they may extract their own flaws to seek that Greatness.

THE TWO;

AVAILER, The Guiding Hand.

The Significance of Availer, the Wandering Wizard lies within the benevolent and kind, leading hand that the being proved and exhibited in the early days. The points in which the way of Availer can be seen in common magery is actions such as teaching new students, repairing the Veil, or using one’s unlimited power to save descendantkind as a whole.

To align oneself with Availer is to commit oneself to aid and save Descendantkind with one’s unperceivable power, and to help them even if they are resistant to it - for their own good.

DRAGUR, The Path of the Self.

The Significance of Dragur, the God of Knowledge lies within research, and further knowledge and actions by any means necessary. To forge the next generation of Mage-Kind in flames, so that it may be strong and immortal. This is to commit to forbidden rituals and be entrusted with abuse of the Veil.

To align oneself with Dragur is to commit oneself to gather as much knowledge as possible that the world has to offer, regardless of how forbidden it may be or how much must be sacrificed.

To be considered a true Wizard, one must be able to variably embody both Dragur and Availer when each is called for.

Tenets of the Shunyatan Wizard

  1. [The Lesson of Hallowcliffe]

A Wizard shall not source power from anything but the Void and the Material.

One may not be considered a Wizard if they source power from the Spirits, the Aspects, Aengudaemons - especially Iblees, the Abyss, or souls thieved from Ebrietaes.

Possession of Thanhium violates this ruling. If a Wizard encounters Thanhium, it is generally suggested that it be melted as soon as possible via mana overload and Arcanium.

  1. [The Lesson of Numendil]

A Wizard shall not maim or kill anyone who does not stand a chance.

A Wizard shall not harm or kill those which could not fight back. This is considered to be unarmed non-combatants or children.

  1.  [The Lesson of Sutica]

A Wizard shall treat their fellow Wizards with respect once earned.

A Wizard shall treat other Wizards with enough respect to allow them a worthy battle and death if they are to die. The corpse of a Wizard shall be respected,.

Quipping and ego-posting is strictly forbidden.

  1. [The Lesson of Lumbridge]

A Wizard shall not fear failure.

A Wizard will never list the possibility of failure as a reason for passing up opportunity.

  1. [The Lesson of Aelwen]

A Wizard shall never allow themselves to be chained by the Layman.

A Wizard may not abide by any guidelines save for their own and these Tenets. They may serve and take orders as Court Mages, but shall never allow this to break any other Tenets.

  1.  [The Lesson of Kaethul]

A Wizard shall not ever accept limitations.

Limitations are an illusion. A Wizard shall never allow anything but their own code to get in the way of their Noumena.

  1. [The Lesson of Hohkmat]

A Wizard shall never allow their magic to grow stagnant.

While lying low or taking a break is a common strategy, a wizard must never allow the comfort of the Layman lifestyle to get a hold of them.

Practices of the Shunyatan

ON DEATH

Upon the death of a respected Wizard who has earned their place and title - such even being earnable after their death should they have died in a proving way or been proven in retrospect - it is commonly believed and accepted within a sort of ‘faith’ that a star shall form in the sky where the wizard will stand amongst the Void they so revered for the rest of time.

The corpse of a Wizard must always be treated with immense respect, and while it is recognizable that in the line of business that we so often engage in for a body to be immolated - if the body is recoverable;

The skull, even if damaged, must be extracted and cleaned using magic. Thereafter, it shall be used in the rite of Arcanium Forging to become arcanium. The Wizard shall, ideally, inform others of what it would look like - though due to the egotistical nature of most and the belief they shall never succumb, it is often up to those who come after who shall determine a fitting and respectful theme for the arcanium. Examples are using Water Evocation to make a frosty appearing skull if they were an ice-mage in life, or Voidstalking to make something galactic or cosmic-appearing if they were a Void-reverer in life.

If the skull cannot be recovered, then the rite shall go on with a replica skull. The only difference is that a creation or important object of the Wizard’s must be adorned onto the skull in some way.

ON BECOMING A WIZARD

In order to be considered a ‘Wizard’, it takes only but a proclamation. An aspiring sorcerer must simply proclaim that they are a Wizard, and are suited to stand amongst the respected line arcanists who take such a title.

Should a Wizard, or Wizards, disagree with the proclamation, they must engage in ‘Kaggath’ and be the victor over the aspiring sorcerer.

However, should a Wizard break one of the tenets - any other Wizard in good standing may openly excommunicate them and have their Mandate of the Arcane revoked - requiring the rule-breaker to re-prove themselves. . . or engage in Kaggath.

ON DUELS

While Wizards will often test their mettle in low-stakes arcane duels, such as ‘Fight-Nights’ with leaderboards and such - a true duel to settle an issue is performed in the ancient art of KAGGATH.

Kaggath is a duel of the minds, wits, and resources that may be performed above borders, nations, or any laws outside of the Wizard’s own purview using subterfuge, black ops, and assassinations.

Rules regarding Kaggath are as follows:

-Kaggath shall be declared via a posting which may be seen by all Wizards before any large actions are taken.

-Kaggath may be participated in by any number of parties. Multiple Wizards may team up, betray each other, or recruit outsiders as pawns

-No magic outside what is traditionally allowed within Shunyata is allowed within Kaggath either.

-Kaggath may be won in multiple ways. If a Wizard is permanently killed, then they have lost Kaggath. If a Wizard wishes to ‘yield’ in Kaggath, they must remove their own eyes so that they may not cast.

-If a Kaggath goes stagnant for too long without a clear winner, then a count of no more than 4 uninvolved Wizards shall hold a vote on who the victor was. Alternatively, it may have ended this way in a draw.

-Kaggath may also end via the opposing parties coming to an agreement.

ON CLOTHING

A Wizard’s appearance makes everything out of them. They are held to not specific rulings outside of self-respect. Though, often, it is seen that Wizards shall adorn themselves similar to their aura colors or favorite magics, and too do Wizards come from all sorts of different cultures - and this is often incorporated - sometimes through stolen or old clothing from a different time in their life. Perhaps they may don a hat, perhaps they may dress in simple, peasant robes - or grand, colorful capes.

ON IMPLEMENTS

An unspoken rule for a Wizard is to have a fitting casting implement. These come in wide varieties and forms - a staff, a wand, a grimoire, or otherwise which is fashioned of one or more rare and magical materials. Oftentimes this is arcanium, but it is not unheard of to see others such as Nyxium or Starsteel. Some Wizards tell myths of a staff made of Carbarum which shall be carved one day.

ON RANKS

There are only four states of being within the culture of the Shunyata.

One, is the state of the Wizard. A once-student, and before that layman, who now practices arcane magic expertly.

Two, is the state of the Mage. A student, and before that Layman, who has begun their journey to become a Wizard or die trying.

Three, is the Layman, who has expressed no desire to uncover the greater mysteries of this world, and is content in their ignorance.

Four, is the Dark Apostate, who has strived for further ignorance by aligning their goals to something beyond themselves, descendantkind, and Shunyata. These are formally known as Clerics, Servants of Iblees, Necromancers, Mystics, and Druids and are despised for their attempts at halting progress and Numena.

[!] A small note is attached to the bottom of this document, wherever it may end up.

"I do not want to be mental blasted by quips from the likes of Juniper, Valindra, or Vivien regarding this document. Thank you."

A Cryomancer and Glassdancer, who is reasonably sure he'd be considered a Wizard according to these precepts, does his best to send a sense of approval to its author before the inevitable tide of negativity overwhelms the metaphysical space 'below' or 'around' missives.

A bald old man, entirely unfamiliar with the Void, thumbs over the missive.

He is, by all means, a fan.

The founder of Hallowcliffe, an old crow, curiously squints at the mention.

One of the missives reached Barad-Khôr eventually, ending up in the hands of the Barrowlord. "Despised? You don't say..." He let out as he relayed the information to his acolytes.

An inhuman figure more clockwork than man read the missive, nodding along as his glass eyes traced the written words with a hum. A brother to him in mind, this author was, despite the subject-matter being the exact opposite of his own.
