[✗] [Addition] Arcane Tattoos

Focus Tattoos - By crushing of Focus Crystals, Magegold, Quietus Crystals, or Arcanium into an exceedingly fine powder, then mixing such with a suitable pigment, a mage may inscribe an Arcane Focus directly upon their flesh as a tattoo. These marks may take many shapes and forms: runes, sigils, geometric forms, or various designs. While dormant, the tattoo retains the color of its chosen pigment. However, upon connecting to the void, the markings will glow and shift into a hue reflecting the caster’s aura. Such focuses offer no practical protection from evoked elements due to their proximity to the body, and serve primarily as a subtle, aesthetic medium for casting. Spells may be conjured through the marked limb or portion of the body as the mage connects to the void through the inscribed focus.

Red Lines:

-Tattoo Focuses grant no benefits beyond those listed under the standard Benefits of an Arcane Focus.

-Tattoo Focuses must remain clearly visible and uncovered during casting to gain the benefits of an Arcane Focus. If fully obscured by armor, heavy clothing, or similar coverings, they cannot be used.

-Tattoo Focuses may be placed only upon living flesh and cannot be inscribed upon detached body parts, prosthetics, armor, or clothing.

-If the portion of skin bearing the Tattoo Focus is destroyed, heavily scarred beyond recognition, flayed, magically altered, or otherwise removed, the focus loses all of its properties.

-The shifting color and glow of the tattoo is purely aesthetic and grants no mechanical advantage, intimidation effect, or concealment.

-Tattoo Focuses do not reduce the risk of self-harm from evoked elements cast at close range. Casting destructive magics through a Tattoo Focus remains just as dangerous as any other close-body focus.

-Tattoo Focuses must still be properly named, described as an Arcane Focus tattoo, and player signed as an item representation. Without this item in inventory, the focus cannot be roleplayed for mechanical benefits.

-The tattoos cannot be placed on breasts, the lower half of a body, etc.

OOC Reasoning: An arcane focus is by far one of my favorite parts of playing a voidal mage, the idea that you have the freedom to choose HOW you're going to cast a spell, which tool do you want to use and so on is something that i've always loved in the original lore, though tattoo's, which are something MANY characters on this server have, were never implemented on the arcane focus lore, which is something i wish to fix with this piece.

This already exists for Voidal Eminence, it's one of the features of the Feat.

Not exactly. Voidal Eminence uses a similar method to the creation of an Arcane Focus, though instead of only tattoos, you may infuse any personal object with mana and make it your 'Affection,' as stated in the lore:

[Connection to Voidal Eminence is wrought from another source of Voidal Mana and the Eminent. Connection is sparked and maintained through an Affection. An Affection is some form of Voidal manifestation which one may physically hold or feel; something close to one’s self, resonating with their identity]

[Examples may be as simple as a specific managem one may bind to themselves, or perhaps utilizing Focus Crystals within one’s self, using instruments of Arcanium or Magegold, or as severe as implementing tattoos or using limbs (should they be applicable) of the materials mentioned above]

This addition simply makes it so you can have tattoos without needing Voidal Eminence

Right, it's specifically a special benefit for Voidal Eminents, that's one of the reasons people go for Eminence. The Voidal Feats give extra cool benefits, if you start giving out their features to every mage, it destroys the point of the Feat.

I'm pretty sure people go for voidal eminence due to it reducing the emote counter for spells and how it makes you nearly impossible to disconnect... that was my case for one

I’m fairly sure you can do this already and is pretty much an aesthetic choice with or without a feat. I would not doubt if a person would use finely ground magic crystals and make a tattoo with it. Redstone tattoos are still a thing (despite the lore being old asf and shows it) so it is not out of the question for this to happen.

This is what I think but its whatever the bossmen think it should be voted on.

My persona has been doing these for years even prior to the existence of Voidal Eminence.

My thoughts on the actual lore are:

I do think it is good to have this written out, but I think the phrasing should be changed in that the tattoos can be placed anywhere and will have all the effects of being a magic tattoo. And the restrictions are just for using them as an arcane focus, and even then just restrict to the existing lore on casting.

The last redline regarding the placement of tattoos was based on other Feats/Magics that include the usage of them such as heradly of azdromoth, its more like a guarantee just to make sure players don't do freaky stuff using the lore

It's in a weird spot, but this does exist already. It's ancient lore and could definitely use an update.  Arcane tats are not, and have never been exclusive to Voidal Eminence.

This lore has been denied.

As has been stated above by Luxury, it is already possible to use tattoos as Casting Implements.
