[Pk Post] A candle in a maelstrom

 Share

Recommended Posts

Spoiler

A candle on a ship, flickering as she sails. The wind howls and the sails are full. How lovely life can be.

The ship docked like normal. Food and water bought, repairs made.

The candle sat on the drydock for a while, burning bright and true. Wax dripped on the crates, and all was well.

An artic gust blew by, light growing dim and smoke beginning to plume.

But she didn't lose her flame. Those around relit the candle, back to its glory.

And thus it burnt, set back on the ship. The flames were steady, the city of prismarine behind it.

The ship began to take on water. Sinking by the moment. Some poor soul took it, and brought it to a new town.

The candle burned in a city of lanterns, wick running low, but flame brighter than ever.

It grew old. Far too old, but with so much life left in her youth.

Around a hundred years it had burnt. All was stable, all was perfect. That candle sat outside, it's light shining out and warmth ever radiant.

Though nothing lasts forever. A maelstrom blew overhead, for but a moment. There was no one left this time to light the wick again, soaked and broken.

No life is perfect, but damn Salem's was pretty good. So many friends around her, so much to live for. But the maelstrom didn't care.

[From her desk, many letters were delivered to friends, family, and others. All from one, old bird. They were all sealed with the Praeterian compass]

Ooc note:

Spoiler

Salem was my favourite character i've ever played, hands down. When I made her, she was just the silly pirate character. I made her back when I was pretty fresh, back when I only really hade my sprite character. I saw the recruitment post and decided to give it a try, nitro boosted the server and made her. Never did i think she would be my main, or that I would cry in real life over her death. I never thought i would make so many friends from minecraft after fallen (An old mcrp series I worked on for a long ass time), and i never thought it would be on a pirate character. Thank everyone who was in her narrative, and if I forgot to send you a letter, i'm sorry. I'm pretty emotional about this. She helped me through some tough times, but the ending was nice.

I'm not going anywhere. My other characters still exist, and even if they don't have that same charm, that flare in their actions, they are mine. Thank you all for the laughs, the tears, and everything in between.

Also **** you @1tzHyper

Everything, felt hollow, after Salem's death.

Ashe Paleheart's life seemed to lose all reason. If she was not taking care of her two children, the now widow could be seen around and about, from her home to where her late wife's fae circle used to be, holding onto the letter that was left to her, still grieving and restless for years to come. Laying on her bed, it was snug, her other  half would be her comfort, her anchor, during night terrors, be there to laugh together, cry together. . . Now all there is, is emptiness. Now the mere act of staying in bed would be a pain, flashes of a death she failed to prevent, despite her lack of remembering, the image of her beloved haunts her restless nights.

The cost of the fight she does not even remember would still haunt the elf, even if she does not comprehend it. Just like her left hand, everything below the waist would feel a sense of numbness and static.

The house magic around the Paleheart household, the ones covered in a starry jade aura, seemed to move a lot slower, sometimes half finishing their job, needing Ashe herself to finish the job by hand.

2 months later, the elf laid on her dusty bed, glancing to the side where Salem would've rested with her, then up at the ceiling. "One's Ryxis. . . How is one supposed to. . . Da, probably need something to distract oneself with. . ." Thus the Paleheart who could not let go continued her journey. . . Two paths ahead of her future it seemed, unbeknownst to her. . .

Waiting for the her at the light of the end of the river. . .

Till Death. . . Nature's Song? Do Us Reunite.

Consume the world. . . The Embrace of the Ever Hungering Void. . . That Robbed Us. . .

That night, for the first time in a long time, Silas returned to his ship.

He had been land-bound for too long.

He paused as he boarded the vessel, looking out upon the now-derelict boat that he had once sailed with all his crew.

 His crew.

The red uruk never stopped grinning; his smile was a habit of life, and it was nearly impossible to wipe it off his face.

But that night, his grin was just a little bit less wide.
He dusted off the cobwebs on the wheel, and, for a moment, allowed himself to imagine Salem there, beside him, as they gazed out together upon their crew hard at work.

He could hear the seagulls crying, could smell the ocean air.

Only after a long while did he allow himself to open his eyes again.

He moved away from the wheel, prying his hands off of it, and retrieved a raft from one of the cellars.

He was grateful, in that moment, that he was an orc, and that he could carry the raft with ease.

He stepped off of the vessel and back down onto the ground, letter in one hand and raft in the other.

And he moved the small raft onto a similarly small rowboat.

He moved himself into the minuscule rowboat, and grabbed ahold of the oars.

It had been a very long time since he had had to row.

Slowly, with his brutish strength, he rowed out to sea, ensuring that the raft balanced on the rowboat did not fall overboard.

Eventually, when he could no longer see land, he placed the oars within the rowboat and picked up the raft.

Slowly, very slowly, once-admiral Silas placed the raft on the water beside the rowboat.

He placed Salem’s letter on the raft.

He picked up the torch he had brought with him, and set the raft aflame.

And he gently pushed the raft away, allowing the ocean to carry the burning raft - and letter - out to sea.

He did not speak a single word.

He sighed softly and began rowing back to shore.

The sun began to rise by the time land came back into sight. Silas chuckled.

 “Look at that, Salem,”

He murmured to himself.
“Land ahoy.”

Aelrin stands before the plaque he had pinned to the memorial wall. a deafening silence lingering in the air around him, hands clasped together behind his back as he quietly thinks back. "I wish I got to know you more... thank you for being a page in my book Salem.. you'll be missed" he broke the silence that lingered only to fall back into it. saddened he was yet no tears fell... he had none left to cry. with that, he turned on his heel, heading for home.

The lone Paramount returned from the hunt, his sword bloodied once again standing dormant in the depths he called home.

A mixture of sap and descendent blood dripped onto the floor.

The crazed undead warrior, driven closer to madness than sanity by centuries of continuous combat, received a bird somehow making its way down to these dark caverns.

The hulking figure draped in shadow and ash turned to his weapon rack, a chuckle escaping him before he muttered ‘ Mi hopez they come and find mi’ before he picked up a warhammer relishing to seek out combat and pain upon mortals once again.

Aldith who was with her Epiphyte plant, watched as her friend's plant slowly died. Her eyes widened as she knew what it meant, her ears lower, the fae around her gently flying close to water trying to check on the plant.
She took a moment to compose herself before finally speaking. "Rest well my friend... you will be greatly missed." Tears slowly travel down her face.

As she returned home, the letter had arrived, as she read the final words given she would breath in sharply. Taking the words to heart.

Basilio found her plaque on the ofrenda in Viru. His lips curled into a frown, while he stared at it for a moment. "..Dead? How?" He muttered to himself. A sigh escaped him as his eyes drifted to the ground.

Faint memories, of her watching him when he was a child. Playing at the beach, discovering an old ring buried in the sands. He wished suddenly that he had gotten to know her more. Had reached out to, spoken to her. But now it was too late, and that grief hung over him like a storm cloud. "...Rest well, old friend.." Was all he could muster, as he carried on with his duties.

A Dark elven bard sits at the top of an isle, watching as the sun falls down to the horizon and bring out the blessed night. Taking out an instrument, he began to play a solemn melody. The familiar glittering of orange hued mana circled around him as it envisioned the familiar Praeterian ship that had docked in Cerulia.

Letting the cold sea breeze deliver his melodies to its destination, wherever it may be.

After what was supposed to be a simple ''show'', a tournament for fun, one of his little shenanigans... Joka layed on the ground, having drink some draught that made him partially mortal, some color on his pallid cheeks as he just layed, silent, looking at the ceilings of the Black Sepulchre "I'm a failure..." he muttered "I'm not worthy of being called a servant of the disappeared Overlord Smilebone..." the Lich continued "I'm not worthy of having revived the Meat Circus!!!" he declared, starting to float a foot off the ground, grabbing a fistful of his hair and PULLING, feeling that mortal pain... Joining his misery. Tears flowed throught his eyes, actually crying for the first time in decades. The jester screamed, a violin suddendly appearing with an explosion of purple energy, starting to play dramatically as he stumbled around the room "OVERLORD SMILEBONE!!! CAN YOU SEE MEEEEEEEEE!!!

He continued his dramatic breakdown for some time more, before the effects of the draught passed, the undead sighing and fixing his hair "A shame... But the SHOW must go on! Hu hu hu hu! I-I hope they don't want revenge on ME or something..." he muttered one last time, floating away towards his room to continue obsessing over anything.
