Let it be known to all citizens of the Imperial City of Rittersburg that the time has come for a new Lord Mayor to be chosen by its people. Citizens are encouraged to take note of the recent reforms to the municipal office and to consider putting themselves or any other worthy citizen of Rittersburg for nomination.

THE LORD MAYOR

 

The Lord Mayor of Rittersburg serves under the authority of the Imperial Crown and the oversight of the Archchancellor. As an auxiliary officer of the Imperial Chancellery, the Lord Mayor is charged with the governance and daily administration of city affairs.

 

The Lord Mayor appoints and dismisses city council officials and assigns duties for the running of the city. They oversee public projects and problems, including budgeting, construction, demolition, and the management of civic property, often carried out through the High Steward, the Mayor’s principal agent in fiscal affairs, jointly appointed by the Lord Mayor and the Lord Treasurer.

 

The Lord Mayor may also organize city events, regulate guild activity, and encourage citizen participation. In matters of order, the office may bring criminal concerns before the Lord Justiciar or Marshal, and may authorize evictions in consultation with the High Steward.

THE CITY COUNCIL

 

The City Council of Rittersburg will serve as the legislative body of the Imperial City, and will consist of the Mayor, as the head, the High Steward, the Imperial Tavern Master, and other necessary advisors appointed by the Mayor, such as a business guild master or a deputy mayor. The Council will convene at least three times during the six-year term of a Mayor, and will deliberate upon matters concerning the local administration of the city.

Citizens of Rittersburg may submit petitions to the City Council proposing new city projects, amendments to existing local laws, or other matters of public concern at public forums held at least three times during a Mayor’s term. All petitions must have the signatures of at least five citizens to be considered. Such petitions may be enacted, amended, or rejected, and the Council must provide a written explanation of its decision.

THE ELECTORAL PROCESS

 

✠ Candidates for Mayor must be 18 years old, be a citizen and resident of Rittersburg, and be in good standing with the Church and Empire.

 

✠ All candidates must issue their own campaign flyers before voting begins and stand for questions in a public debate if deemed necessary. 

 

✠ The Mayor is chosen by majority vote, with each citizen of Rittersburg allowed to vote once for their chosen candidate. If no candidate achieves a majority, a runoff is held between the two highest candidates. 

 

✠ The Mayor serves a six-year term and may be re-elected only twice.

 

✠ The campaign period for the Lord Mayor shall begin upon the promulgation of this notice. Nominations will close on the evening of Sun's Smile [Sunday, the 31st, at 3:00 PM EST]. Notice of the public debate and voting will be issued after nominations close.

I have traveled across the Empire and beyond its borders; as a child, I grew up hearing tales of how my family was once used as a negotiation, leading me to find interest in diplomacy. I have spoken with citizens and paupers alike. Along with now serving faithfully beside her Imperial Majesty, which is a gift I have been most blessed with.

Yet no duty weighs upon me heavier than the knowledge that the children of our generation will soon inherit the city we build today. If Rittersburg is to remain our empire's very beating heart, it must be governed with wisdom, dignity, and purpose.

I wish to lead, and this capital deserves service. While I am a devout and pious woman, I am also a diplomatic envoy for our empire. I wish to bring more support to our churches and orphans, along with the public businesses such as taverns. Our faith should be a guiding star rather than dividing our neighbors further.

I am exceptionally reliable when it comes to sayings things that matter, and doing what is needed! Ask anyone who knows the name Mithius Dalma, they will tell you, he is an upstanding citizen of the Empire and the greatest friend of humanity since agriculture. I myself am surprised to admit it, good people, but I am as a matter of fact not good at speaking of my own deeds. A side effect of my humility, it all began after I received praise from the first imperial dynasty centuries upon centuries ago for my selfless acts in service to the forgettable Emperor William. Anyways, enough about that. Am I a good choice? Yes. Should I be Lord Mayor because I have served in the position innumerable times and positions greater than it? Yes.
