What It Means To Be High Elf

((This is now completely OOC for obvious reasons. We have better things to do in a apocalypse refugee camp than chat about High Elves ICly))

((Haha, this oughta be fun. My character's a High Elf who has spent her entire life with humans, so she's not going to fit in well at all. xD

Anyway, on to my question: Will High Elves be very exclusive, and not let anyone of another race or sub-race in? Rather, I'm especially curious about sub-races. Will Wood Elves and Dark Elves be allowed into the city?

Also, is there a taboo on High Elves marrying others from a different race or sub-race, as the wiki says? I'm told to never trust the wiki,so....Looking for confirmation. :P))

High Elves are still an open race. As long as subrace apps don't exist, people can choose to be one and act however they please. So no, there won't be a sense of exclusivity for the race. HOWEVER, the society for High Elves will be very strongly defined, which means that in order to live among your fellow High Elves in their town, you will have to act like the race. This shall be tough, and definitely not for everyone. In that sense, being a 'pure' High Elf will be an exclusive station.

The wiki is right on High Elf marriages though. None of the culture-abiding High Elves will like you if you say that you are married to another race. They are a smaller group, which means that most of them know each other, and so it won't be long until you are shunned.

The golden-blonde haired elven maiden nods in agreement, smiling softly at the man's inquirement and speech. She claps her hands a few times in applaud as she approaches, offering a small nod of introduction.

"How curious of you to come to this place and preach such words. It seems you speak sense. I wish to know as much as I can about my heritage..."

((Well, when Asulon came I decided to go elf. My character is currenly a High Elf. I want to know what's special about the High Elves, other than their advanced knowledge and magical ability. I would like to know thei history a bit, I guess. My character is differing a bit from normal High Elves, as he has a passionate hatred for politics due to chidhood trauma. I need a bit of information to make him fit in with the High Elves he grew up with, does anyone have anything good for me?))

Important tip: go to Hualun'or, the high elven ruins, you might learn something there...))

((Guidelines for high elven conduct in Haelun'or:

To Mori'quessir = be polite to them. They are volatile and use unnecessary violence to solve things - while they are a lesser race who follow a fictional goddess we are on their land and conflict would have adverse effects.

To Orcs = be racist and unfriendly. They are unsophisticated and violent brutes.

To Renatus Humans = tolerate and be polite to them. A lesser race and one prone to deceit and corruption however they are valuable allies. Dislike for them should be hidden.

To Hanseti Humans = although we have had no IC contact with them thus far they would disliked for their violent ways and the fact that they consort and tolerate 'filthy half-breeds'.

To Dwarves = tolerate them. The high elves of old had a tenuous trading alliance with the ancient dwarves. They are tolerated but not well-liked.

To Wood Elves = hold some disdain for them. They hinder advancement and are a shackle to mali'aheral society. Exceptions can be made.

To Aegisian Dark Elves = Blank because they don't really have a distinct racial identity.

To Half-breeds of any kind = be extremely hateful and xenophobic to these, more so than anything else. They are swine who should be purged from this earth - however violent ways are not always the best.

To Druids = despise them. They are set on old ways and are an inhibition.

Nature is not revered at all in their society - neither is any god or religion. They belive religion and believing in any deities is illogical and unneeded.

Breeding with non-high elves is a capital offense.

Nobody is above criticism or insult as long as it is logical.

Aside from that they are very non-violent, preferring to resolve things with words and debates. If you attack a mali'aheral, they have already won, as they did not need to resort to violence unlike yourself. There is more, and I'll post as I remember it.))

But I don't want to be like that...

A Wood Elf overhears the conversation, and decides to approach to give a few words of his opinion.

"Pardon my eaves dropping, your voice just carries to my delicate ears. Oh, I'm Royce, by the by.

"High Elves, from my experience, appear to... separate themselves from Wood and Dark Elves in such a manner as to almost be discriminatory. It is not near as extreme as when a Human meets his hafling cousins, but the prejudice is still quite noticeable.

"This is not to say that Wood and Dark Elves are not prejudiced, as I, a Wood Elf, am telling you this as a generalization upon all the High (and mighty) Elves."

The Wood Elf sticks around to hear the rest of the conversation.

((Well, good thing Keya's wanting to be a 'good little High Elf.' I don't relish her being executed for fancying a human. She's still nothing like 'em, but..eh. Also, what if a Wood Elf is your adopted brother? How would people respond to that? A Wood Elf saved her from a horrible life as a slave, and eventually became more her older brother than just a friend, so how would High Elves react?))

I don know, that is a tricky one. She would problebly be allowed in the high elven city and be tolerated, but will have problems with her social status...))

I sort of disagree there. If her brother isn't the typical 'Naaaaaaaaaaaaature! THIS CITEH NEEDS NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATURE! *Insert nature religion reference here*' wood elf he would be allowed inside the city and so would she. He probably wouldn't be too well-liked but since he does have some relation to a fellow high elf it should go fine.

@ Evelyn

If you don't want to act like that you don't have to, all it means is you won't be accepted into their society.

((I know but being different and creating conflict is all the better. Nearly everything about Evelyn is non High Elvish))

((Note to self, don't mention that I have high elven blood in me. They don't like it and other people don't like high elven nazism. Is this a fair assumption to make?))
