A Belated Farewell

(( I wrote this before Aegis was eliminated, before I heard about her death. My character, Brianna, had been taking one last trip around Aegis before it was destroyed, and decided (I decided) to visit her old home. It was a fantastic nostalgia trip. Brianna had been infatuated with Maeghan, much as I had been infatuated with her real self. ))

Brianna trudges up the paths in her old home, Sickle Bay. Seeing the fort, she sighs and surmounts the tower, looking across the ghost town. She climbs down, and shuffles through the streets, staring at the signs marking her old friends' homes. April, Nate... Maeghan. She comes upon the home of Maeghan Sterling; not the pale, sad, trapped Maeghan who had died, but the bright, young girl who had joined her so long ago. She blinks in astonishment, then is overcome with grief. She lets out an uncharacteristic scream; a lament of shock and disappointment of remembrance. She sobs, her cheeks streaked with salty tears and clear rain. She sobs, her withering sounds heard through a massive radius; though, to nobody, as the world had been burnt to a crisp in all of the other towns in the north. Her trip here had been harsh; The stinging sulfur, the miasma clawing at her throat; but her time here had been worse. She cried, and cried, and cried. She cried until she had to drink the rain to cry more. Nothing, short of her partner of body and soul, could appease the clinging horror of her sadness.
