A Murder In The Streets

*Kvothe laughs with delight as he reads the papers being scattered around and readily moves to sign.*

"I have waited since Al'Khazar for this. Thank god this has finally happened. Down with Dawn!"

*Haliax listens to the conversations of those around him, exclamations from all sides. He gets a basic idea of the topic of conversation, but shakes his head, needing to know more. Moving to the sound of the nearest reader, he bluntly asks him to read the paper for him. After a bit of persistence, the man agrees. Haliax listens as the stranger recites the letter, nodding slowly the entire time. Calling for a pen to sign with, he signs a simple H on the paper.*

Walking takes time now, and the journey from Arethor to Solace takes a lot longer than it used to. Josef doesn't go there nearly as often as he used to. Still, once in a while something compels him to make the trip. This time, it is due to a rumour. Fire and ash and death! The streets run red, the city in flames! It sounded ridiculous to him, he wondered if the courier was drunk on ale or thinking about Undead. Still, his imagination got the best of him, and so he went.

The first sense that something was wrong was when he saw the wheat fields - he had always admired them, the huge swathes of plains turned into productive bread making fields for Solace. This time, they were devastated. No wheat grew, the earth was blackened and filled with holes of muddy water. His heart skipped a beat, and he picked up his pace. Entering the city, a low fog obscured the features, making him squint through the haze. A sudden strong breeze made his clothing whip back, his thinning hair blow away from his face.

He felt something wrap itself around his left leg. Reaching down, he picked up a piece of parchment. Reading it, he was first shocked. Dawn? he thought. She always seemed so in control, so loved by her people. His surprise then turns to realization, followed by anger. This has happened before... In Aegis, after Al'Khazar fell and Winterfell burned. The Phoenix Revolution was born in these same conditions, with nobility not caring about the people and cities aflame. These people of Salvus were the very ones who did not support us, who chose to follow the old leaders, the leaders who let the Undead win in the first place. They mocked us, went to war against us, jeered that our kingdom was illegitimate. Look where this has gotten them... once again, the people rise against the leaders who do not care about them. Perhaps the Phoenix can rise again still...

Josef is about to drop the paper, but decides to keep it. With one last look around he leaves the city, resolved to return sooner than he had expected.

While selling bread to people of Solace who have lost their homes in the great storm, he notices the notice

Hm, this is quite unusual, I would suspect Dawn being liked by her citizens. It seems she has done what Enor did in Old Oren. A revolution is imminent.. It is about time this corrupted nation has fallen and reborn to a greater glory as Renatus has.

*While walking through the streets of Salvus, Vance overhears a conversation by the revolutionaries. He slowly approaches them and begins speaking.*

"Listen here now, you claim that Dawn was away in Salvus's time of need and yet you fail to see that she has successfully ruled this kingdom for over twenty years... It'd certainly be amusing to see any of you keep a kingdom as populated as this one stable for as long as she has.

While I admit, I have had my doubts about some of the Peacekeeper's abilities after one of them allowed Lucas Black's men into the city, I do believe that this is only the work of a small minority. If necessary, I would certainly be willing to purge the Peacekeepers of any corruption, if they continue to cause problems.

It seems that these revolutionaries are simply here to cause further violence and chaos in the streets of Salvus, breaking the peace and instead turning people against a Queen who has served them well for all these years. I visit many nations and I have yet to see one as prosperous as this one so it certainly seems as if these revolutionaries are simply seeking power for their own ends."

*stands among the people, holding a flyer, till he finally had enough

Who are you, to speak on behalf of the citizens of Salvus? You don't live here. Not to my knowledge. I helped building this nation. Did one of you approach me? No. Why is that? Because you don't care for the citizens. You saw an easy way to seek power, that didn't work out and now you surround yourself with a horde of mindless sheep without an own opinion and try to plan an invasion.

Are there problems in Salvus? Sure. Are you the solution? NO! YOU are part off the problem. Now PISS OFF and get OUT of my town. YOU DON'T BELONG HERE.

*crumples the flyer and tosses it back at the man

If this does happen which it won't happen instead of letting someone take charge just destroy the city and make room for others.

*Hedron stopped by on his way to the mines, scratching his beard as he reads the flier. He appears to be about to say something when Kal speaks up*

"'ear, 'ear. Couldn't 'o said it better meself, Kal. Who are yer ter tell us, ther citizens o' Salvus, 'ow ter solve ther problem yer're a part of? Yer and yer bloody "replacement" can go an' shove it. I've been a citizen o' Solace since we first arrived in t'is land, and I don't know 'ho yer are, and I certainly don't want yer leadin' t'is nation.

Yer're jus' a power-'ungry mongrel, like ther rest of 'em circling Salvus right now. Now piss off. Get out 'o 'ere before I lose me temper."

From the edge of the growing crowd, Arik stands watching the scene. Slowly he pushes forward, until he makes his way to the head of the crowd, and raises his staff up, soon all goes quiet as they see the Druid approaching the man.

Adopts a light smile, leaning forward against his staff, the wind whipping his cloak about his legs.

And what, pray tell, will thou do should she ignore your bequest?

Reading the flyer, he thinks to himself. Then, on the back, he uses some charcoal to write a message. It read, We gave you a chance, Dawn. When your people cried out for help, you fled, and left Salvus in a state of terror and destruction. Well, that chance is over. We are fed up with being robbed outside our very homes. I am finished seeing my brothers lay drowning in their own blood. You have betrayed us one too many times, now, and we'll rid of you, if not peacefully, with forceful means. You do not run Salvus, as you clearly demonstrate. You run when her people needed you most. Your time is up. Out.

I visit many nations and I have yet to see one as prosperous as this one so it certainly seems as if these revolutionaries are simply seeking power for their own ends."

Lorethos chuckles when he sees Vance defend the Queen.

"I have elaborated this over a hundred times. I will not lead any government that comes after she steps down from head of state. I care little to lead the nation. I care to purge it of corruption and make it safe.

And you... Kal Derra was your name. It is difficult to see the bleeding lives of so many from the Palace. It is not the fault of Dawn, but she has been there too long, and now it is time she permit those capable of overseeing a true safety for her people to do what they can. She has refused to even attempt to orchestrate an investigation into the Peacekeepers in order to eliminate the corruption, and makes no efforts to solve the problems of the nation that it his right now.

She sits in her palace, a reactionary Queen. One who does nothing but insult those who disagree with her and send men to attack protestors. The people and commerce is leaving Solace because it is too dangerous. We can fix this, and if she was willing to do it I'd let her, but she won't listen to reason.

I have spent most of my time in Solace without a home, because I have been incapable of finding a person whom I may purchase a home from. I consider myself attuned to Solace, her people, and her problems, and for good reason. I have been there to protect people trapped within the Inn while a madman sought their end. I stood and fought him and beat him and gave him mercy. The Peacekeepers just stood and watched.

As for what we do if she refuses. Then, we come with the word of all the other nations who would aid is in a forceful usurpation. She sent men who tortured and beat me. If she will use brutal and murderous force, then she has opened us up to use it if it becomes necessary. The last thing I want is bloodshed, but if Dawn was removed, than the people of Solace and those who are constantly there will be able to sleep easy knowing their Guard is a true Guard and their gates are locked shut and the back of their city is not open to entrance by some massive river.

I do not think Dawn is anything but worn out. If she is a witch, I do not care. No one will burn. She must step down, and I assure you no harm will come to her or her followers."

*Vance stares back towards Lorethos and gives him an angry look.*

"Just to clarify for you, Dawn did not send us to drive out the protesters, we did that ourselves because you were disturbing the peace in a city that I very much enjoy spending my time in... If you continue to keep up with what you're doing, I'll continue to have people drive you from the city.

I must also ask this, if Dawn is not fit to lead Salvus, then who do you think is?"

No one has the divine right to rule, that is why he is creating ministers.
