Sporadic 2844 Share Posted April 6, 2012 The High Elves of Haelun'or “Nobody is more dangerous than he who imagines himself pure in heart; for his purity, by definition, is unassailable.” Rules of the High Elves You weren't born a High Elf by accident. You are High Elven because your parents and grandparents purposely sought out only other High Elves to marry. You were raised with Mali'aheral ideals, and you must act like it. While all may have talents, the merit of the High Elf exceeds that of the other races. Given the choice, you will interact rather with a High Elf than with a member of any other race. High Elves are the ideal. There is no more 'perfect' design, mortal or immortal. The High Elves bow to no god, but instead hold the ancestors Malin (father of all Elves) and Larihei Lomahnih (mother and guide of the first High Elves) in saint-like regard. One may give praise to them (in a broad sense, refer to them as 'the ancestors') in conversation or otherwise. While High Elves are known for their increased magical potency, we do not have the innate ability to cast spells. You will have to join an approved guild and work just as hard as anyone else in order to use RP magic. Always strive towards impeccable grammar. The High Elves are refined in their tongue. The impures will try and trick you into using OOC talk while in character. Do not give in to their tainted ways. The act of flirting is unclean. To show your affections towards another Mali'aheral, dedicate to them a poem or love song that matches their beauty. The High Elves honor their ancestors by speaking Ancient Elven. It is insulting and in fact unlawful for non-Elves to use it. Outsiders (this is, one whose race that is not High Elf) will make their presence and intentions known by letter prior to visiting our walls. Only High Elves will be allowed to enter when asking for such at the gate. High Elves do not drink beer. We favor a fine wine. It is not taboo to criticize the logic of those in higher authority. In fact, it is encouraged to do so. An outsider is only allowed within the walls while carrying a permit from a council member or are in the presence of a Citizen acting as a chaperon. The killing of High Elves is strictly forbidden. The killing of outsiders is frowned upon. Officials may choose to execute particularly bothersome outsiders in the name of 'euthany'. High Elves consider the entire city as a home and every Elf as family. Treat them the way you would treat these concepts in real life. All Elves are 'kin'. High Elves are 'brothers' and 'sisters', other Elves are 'cousins'. One may refer to them as such. It is your duty as Mali'aheral to guide your brothers and sisters back to the Silver City and, if necessary, teach them the way that they have forgotten. Titles and their usage malaurir: Used to address the Maheral. laurir: Used to address the okariran of Haelun'or and, optionally, the princes of Malinor. cer': (strong, mighty). Prefix added to address those of high military ranks, such as the Legate or sillumiran. (Ex: cer'Seth) ah': (blessed). Prefixed used to address those of high intellectual ranks, such as the high scholars or librarian. (Ex: ah'Octavius) On High Elven appearance. We are taller than all races but the Uruk, commonly standing at about 6'2'' to 6'7'', with exceptions on both ends of the interval. We have light skin tones. Acceptable tones are white, lighter yellow and grey as well as pink. We have light hair colors. Acceptable are white, grey and light brown. Silver hair is seen as especially pure and therefore beautiful. Black hair color is unheard of, and considered a first but curable sign of impurity Known eye colors are grey, blue, green and very occasionally purple. Bathing in the valleian'acaln, the Golden Pools, will lighten one's skin and hair color. Black hair will revert to light grey when exposed to it. For this reason, the act is seen as a ritual of cleansing. Anything that harms the High Elves' ideal build is considered taboo. High Elves would never tattoo or pierce their skin. Non-intrusive jewelry, such as rings or necklaces, are allowed. Scars, being involuntary, are no cause for negative repercussions from Haelun'or. However, them being a stain on one's physical purity can be the cause of derision and scorn from more radical High Elves. High Elves that are, beyond any reasonable doubt, proven to be 'beyond hope' have their skin, and therefore their purity, visibly branded. Guards are to throw them out of the city when spotting such a mark. On regard for other races: High Elves hold the other races of Asulon in varying degrees of acclaim. From most to least respected, our disposition towards the other races is as follows: High Elves: Very Friendly, obviously.Wood Elves: Friendly, for they are our cousins. Dark Elves: Friendly but wary, as a great deal of Dark Elves have been disrespectful and few chose to co-operate with the Mori'quessir.Halflings: Amiable, for their tendency is to be peaceful and not create trouble.Humans: Amiable. The High Elves admire the history and achievements of the Valah in a 'million monkeys writing Shakespeare' way. Dwarves & Goblins: Neutral. Their built being so radically different from the ideal makes for a reason to distrust.Orcs: Loathed for their culture and past grievances.Mori'quessir: The Mori'quessir failed to save our elven ancestors who perished in the ruins we now inhabit. They are to be treated with caution if found breaking into the city. Useful Links: Elven Language. Useful for learning the tongue of the ancestors. High Elven lore.
