~As you walk along the road, you see Riven, ringed by a palisade wall of chopped timber and wooden planks.~

~Looking at your feet, you see many, many flint plates laying around. You lift one up curiously, and below it is a small satchel filled with black powder. You decide to not investigate it, instead leaving it behind.~

~Nearby, a sign stands, bearing a sloppily painted skull. You have no doubts about what it is trying to state~

~You leave in a hurry, feeling your pulse quicken as you avoid the plates, and hastily cross the broken bridge back to the path.

[[Riven is ringed by a deterring ring of explosives. It is enterable, but caution and wits are advised. Do not complain about the traps. All knowledge of them learned before this is not valid - this is the official post.]]

[i developed Lore for explosives during my tenure as Hochmeister of the Teutonic Order. Wonder if I could slip that knowledge somehow...]

[Freya, I can offer you the Lore behind 'explosives' that I wrote, seeing as you offered to take over the Subudai, it can be implemented in. The Subudai have learned the same knowledge from the Hansetians FYI.]

[[That would be fantastic. Ours are rather crude, I must say. Even Orcs understand how it works.]]

(( The attackers to Riven today sure noticed. The town was a crater when they arrived. ))

((I wonder how these mines got there, if the enemy didn't place them, and Salvus didn't. Riven was under no threat of attack at the time.))

(I was shocked to see Riven destroyed it was such a beautiful city, there was no war-claim to it also, I do not know why the defenders blow it up, as we did not deploy any siege equipment.)

((My forces engaged there, so I sent word to Syrio and Brevias to come and aid us. We were on our way back to our warcamp to disarm when we were struck.))

((Salvus placed them. The choice to defend Riven was a tactical one since nowhere else seemed defendable, and the Salvians did not have enough forces to defend open ground. The city should have been defendable with the garrison they had. They deployed a slash and burn tactic, first chopping down the surrounding forest to eliminate a protected approach for the enemy, then covered the field with a perimeter of rudimentary explosives to deter them.

The mines have lore written for them, and fit within the game universe wholly.

Unfortunately, some people on LoTC aren't afraid of running over landmines because they know you can outrun them using game mechanics. Oh well.

On another final note, there should have been no mines within 20 blocks of the city walls. If that was not the case, someone must have placed some explosives during the battle. The minefield was designed to not damage the town.))

((I believe the the Town of Riven was actually destroyed by enemy forces, by Aratharia, if I am correct.))
