Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:VIROS

How old are you?:16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:United States, EST

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:Yes, I have a very good grip of English and grammar. The only problem I have is that I occasionally comma splice. I’m getting better about that though, and I’m trying my best to learn the rules of the enigmatic semicolon

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:I like to learn about history, philosophy, and jurisprudence. I read and write a lot, although I usually don’t show my writing off. It is more for my benefit than anyone else’s. I also really enjoy gardening, sewing, and sometimes weaving.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:~20 hours a week, 30 if I really get involved in the politics of it.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:Role playing is creating a character and acting out the character according to your description of him/her. You not only create and control the character, but you act as if you were the character and make decisions based on the personality of that character. The most important part is to make sure you grasp that you *aren’t* doing what you would do in the situation, you are doing what your character would do in the situation.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:I have lots of experience in forum roleplaying, and on occasion I play DnD with some friends of mine. I have some experience roleplaying in a game, but not very much. Mostly because whenever I’ve tried an MMO like WoW or Everquest it didn’t really catch my interest.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:Meta-gaming is using information obtained out of the game in the game, or using information in game that your character could not reasonably know. For example, if you are Teamspeak while someone is discussing being possessed by a demon, you could not later get on the server and have your character know their character is possessed by a demon. This is because you obtained the information in your capacity as yourself, not as your character.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:Power-gaming is making a character or playing your character in such a way that they are unfairly powerful. Giving yourself the ability to turn people to dust at whim is power-gaming. Another example is not giving people the chance to react to your actions. For example, “Jode punches Sal in the stomach, knocking him to the ground” is power-gaming. This can be corrected by saying ‘Jode throws a violent punch, aiming at Sal’s stomach”

What do you expect this server will be like?:I expect the server to be fairly big and active. I’m hoping to find a niche for my character, because he does have a fairly specific role to fill as a scribe. I think the players will be nice, though it might take some time for me to acclimate to a new environment.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:I’ve played on a lot of servers based around nations or factions. Most of them I left out of boredom, although one I left because the admins were biased towards one specific clan on the server. They had all come from that clan or were currently in it, and I felt that they were making decisions which favored it over the rest of the clans.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:Of course.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:It’d be odd if I read, understood, and agreed to the rules without promising to abide by them. So yes.

How did you hear about us?:A friend of mine named Gousby mentioned you were fairly big and important while we were having a discussion about roleplaying.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:I have, but I can’t seem to find it. I think it is too old to show up in the Denied Applications. It was denied because I tried to be the son of a noble who lost his title during the Phoenix Revolution.

In-Character:

Character Name:Cecil Virosi

What Race are you?:Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):N/A

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):Cecil is in his late 80s. He has a lined face and he keeps his head shaved. There is a small indent above his right ear where he keeps his quill. He wears grey and green robes with floral patterns embroidered in silken thread. The hems of his robes are somewhat worn and the cloth is faded, but otherwise he is clean and put together well. His eyes are bright blue and attentive, though occasionally they wander towards one of the many books or scrolls he inevitably has with him.

Cecil served as a librarian and scribe in the palace of the King of Oren in the days before the Phoenix Revolution. He was skilled, but not the best of his peers. He was often found wandering the many stacks of scrolls, studying history and philosophy. Although he occasionally shirked his duties in order to read, he made up for it with the speed of his quill and his friendship with the Head Librarian.

When the Revolution struck to be with their family, many of the scribes fled the Keep. Cecil left with them, though he was persuaded by the Head Librarian to take some of the more valuable books and scrolls regarding government and philosophy as payment for his last services and a token of friendship.

He left to the Kingdom of Renatus shortly after, where he spent the remainder of his life between then and now expanding his knowledge of philosophy, government, and jurisprudence.

Cecil is loyal and quiet. He respects the power of those born above him. He has given up the irresponsible ways of his youth, and now he scurries about in local bookshops, picking up anything that interests him. He rarely speaks, and when he does it is only softly to people who speak directly to him. He values loyalty in others, and hates boisterous people. The only loud voice he can abide is the booming voice of a lord or lady, exercising their rightful power as a natural leader. He believes highborn are naturally infallible.

Though peaceful of mind, Cecil is not particularly opposed to war, especially when waged in the name of a highborn. He has excellent theoretical knowledge of diplomacy, but he’s never had the chance to put his skills to use. He values order and hierarchy, believing there is a place for everyone, and everyone should be in their place.

What are your Character's ambitions?:Cecil aspires to return to his position as a scribe and librarian, preferably to a noble or other highborn. He wants to see the Holy Empire of Oren succeed. Despite not being especially devout, he thinks the Empire is the best chance the world has to become peaceful and well-educated.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):The quill. Cecil loves to write and study. He writes with swan feather quills, and prefers plant-based inks to ink derived from squids, primarily because it is less watery.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?Besides scribing, Cecil also enjoys gardening and creating his own inks. He likes to organize writings, and has his own special notation system where he marks the edges of quills with lines of varying colors and lengths to denote their contents. He’s a fairly skilled healer, though nothing to brag about.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format, if you do not know how to acquire one, copy and paste this link into your browser: ( http://tinyurl.com/Lotcscreenshot ): http://i.imgur.com/GpqA1.png

Other Information about your Character:Cecil carries a pack containing parchment, ribbons to wrap the parchment in, and the equipment necessary to create ink at all times. His hands are stained every color of the rainbow. He usually has bandages and salves with him.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? I race back to the Cloud Temple as long as my old legs will take me and alert the guards. When I return, the halfling is lying on the ground, broken. I tell the guards I will care for him, and send them after the after the warriors. I do my best to repair his wounds, though he seems to be more than a little annoyed that I didn’t help him when the warriors were actually there. I apply salves to the bruises on his face, careful not to press to hard.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

“Hello” I say softly “I’m looking for extract of Gijaklul”. The merchant looks at me and says “You sure you kin afford it, sir? What do you intend it for anyway? You don’t look like an orc to me.” I say “I’m only trying to make an ink, don’t worry. I have a few minas to spare, though a trade might be preferable.” The merchant glares at me, his posh accent falling away for a few moments “Wha’ kinna stan’ you thin’ I’m runnin’ here, wot? I ain’ a damned pawn shop.” I lower my head, “Apologies, sir. I only meant to that there are a few bits and bobs from my scroll cases I can give you. Little gold leaves, nothing terribly valuable.” His accent returns, and the fancy visage comes back as the merchant says “No, my apologies. I though’ you were one o’ the urchins. Here, I have a few vials of it. Smells like hell, though.” I take the vials into my pouch and hand over the last few pieces of gold leaf off the edge of the ancient scroll case and say “Thank you, sir.”

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

I leave the shack immediately and resume my herb-picking somewhere else. Someone living out in the wilds obviously isn’t to be trusted, especially not with a shack in this condition. I leave a few crumbled bits of bread on the table, more out of pity for those unfortunate enough to be born to a low station than charity.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? “Hello.” I say to the camp leader “ I’m very sorry to intrude, but I haven’t eaten in at least a day. Will you let an old man rest his aching bones? I have money to pay for food.” The leader turns to me slowly, her dress rustling over a few loose leaves and says “Of course, and no need for food. We wouldn’t make some as venerable as you suffer over a few minas. Please, have some stew.” I thank her charity, but insist I contribute somehow. We settle on my contributing some herbs to the soup. That night I spend a few hours studying my histories and doing my best to make the children literate. They aren’t very good, but their hearts are in it. As I leave the camp a child approaches me “The soup was good, thanks for your plants!” I smile and pull a few more leaves out of my bag. “Here. The secret is jasmine. You’ll be very popular if you use the recipe.” Before I leave, I bundle up my scrolls and place them in my bag, making sure to keep them separate from the herbs.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:I contribute by writing up posters advertising the award scrap parchment, but I do insist that some of the town guard stay behind to guard the woman and children. While the guard is away I work with the women to instruct the children in writing. I also cook in the kitchens, making sure a meal is ready for the guard when they return. After, I wait in the town hall with the leading noble, discussing the many facets of ruling.

Anything else you would like to say?:I’ve done my best to maintain a good timeframe for the Phoenix Revolution, but since there are no exact dates, I can’t be totally sure when it occurred and how old my player is in comparison. I hope you’ll forgive any minor lore mistakes I make. Thanks for reading!

Very nice application. Finally an application that is not for a young warrior in their twenties trying to become a Knight.

Please wait patiently as a GM will implement you in due time.
